When Orlagh told us who one of her guests (Meav, of course) will be, she knew how excited I'd be...oh Happy day!!

 I'm already making plans, car rental check, hotel check, oh yeah don't forget to take Brenda check. An 8 hour drive is worth this, I just hope I get tickets. I still have last years birthday present to give to her. Good god I'm a mess, I have to do something special for Maev who I never thought I'd meet. I also can't wait to meet some of you I have just heard about, it is like celebrity week, ok I won't go that far but it will be great. I know a great dinner place just blocks from the venue.

  Hotel Indigo is a great hotel just two blocks from the venue, very historic and just a beautiful place to stay.

Today I was listening to Orla's and Meav's parts in SDS, and lo' and behold I received an email stating that they would be singing together again! I live too far away to be able to attend the taping, but I sure hope that there will be a DVD and CD of this exciting event!

I wish I could be there!! I sure hope PBS makes a CD and DVD...somehow I am going to have to see this Christmas Speacial on PBS.   I even know where I could stay south of Nashville but within good driving distance, but even if I had the money I could not get off work..  This is wonderful news though to hear that Orlagh and Meav will be together.  Fantastic!!! ;D

And I laughed when reading the last lines of her blog on her site: 'It’s going to be a busy month. I'm already driving John crazy singing Christmas carols day and night in the house! He’s counting the days for me to go to Nashville to have a bit of peace!!' She is great  :D

That's a good question, Mike! I don't know how they are handling the notifications. I thought confirmation emails were going to be sent out this week. Maybe they were just waiting to get a final number on the requests first.

I think a few people have contacted them to see if they had tickets so they could make flight and hotel arrangements. Might want to do that.  If you didn't get tickets that way I know I would sure be on the email to the Nashville PBS pledge.

I was reading about the theater on TPAC website:
James K. Polk Theater is an amazingly intimate proscenium theater for its size, with a maximum seating capacity of 1,075, including 44 pit seats.  It also features a vomitorium and a semi-thrust pit, which allows for more interaction between artists and audience.

Now Im not exactly sure what they mean, but Im not so sure I want to sit in a section called "vomitorium" or "semi-thrust pit". :o  I mean anything that has the word "vomit" in it cant be good, right?  And "semi-thrust" thats just down right scary!

But, then again, at this moment (hanging on the fence) I'll be sooooooooooooo thrilled to just hav a seat....I might have to reconsider and not be so picky!   ::)

I was on the PBS web page that Kelli has linked. ::) Kind of just wishing looking at the pledge price and it is more than reasonable.  :o $30.00 for one ticket or $50.00 for two what a bargain. ;D  If you are not lucky enough to have gotten a fan ticket, the price is more than reasonable to get a PBS pledge ticket. I know I sure would buy these tickets in a heart beat if I had transport.  Heck. I would get down on my knees and beg one of my camp host to work an extra six days so I could attend.  ::)  Don't wait till the last minute so you mis out on this fantastic concert.  The view of the Polk theater is great. On top of all that the fantastic group of supporters that will be there will make it a great night. Have fun all you lucky fans.

Info from Wikipedia:

Vomitorium (plural: vomitoria): a passage situated below or behind a tier of seats in an amphitheatre, through which crowds can "spew out" at the end of a performance.

In theater, a thrust stage is one that extends into the audience on three sides and is connected to the backstage area by its up stage end. A thrust has the benefit of greater intimacy between performers and the audience than a proscenium, while retaining the utility of a backstage area. Entrances onto a thrust are most readily made from backstage, although some theatres provide for performers to enter through the audience using vomitory entrances.

So, after looking at a photo of the theatre seating, I take all this to mean that the James K. Polk Theater has a short thrust stage with a sectioned off portion of seating up front that gains a greater intimacy over the rest of the theater (hence why it's called "semi-thrust pit").  As for the vomitorium passage, it's not a typical passage like you'd see in, say, Roman amphitheaters where the term originated from.  They're probably just referring to the aisles that come through the separation wall for the semi-thrust pit section.  So, no worries.  :)

All tickets will be general admission seating (including the free fan ones),
the show is at 7pm, but I'm not sure on when the doors will open, that will
most likely be handled by the venue.

  FYI--- Anyone that is planning on staying at the Doubletree-- it has an airport shuttle.  Distance is 6.4 miles.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but Orla just posted on her Facebook that she'll be performing with Anuna for her Christmas special in Dublin.  How exciting.  It's bound to be beautiful. :D

     I've gotten my ticket confirmation!!  8)  Is there a chance we can meet with Orla briefly either before or after the show?  I'm a bit concerned about the crowd this American Idol guy who is also appearing will generate.   :)

I got my confirmation today also, but being the compulsive and impatient person that I am, I ordered one from the PBS station last night.  If anyone out there decides to go at the last minute and needs a ticket, let me know.  I did see something about that Am. Idol guy's fans getting tickets,  so I was wondering what time we should start lining up for the event to make sure Orla and Meav know the true fans are on the front rows.
Surely am looking forward to seeing fans I know and meeting new ones.  Safe travels everyone!

I am also concerned about the crowds for the American Idol guy. I want the support on the front row to be for Orlagh and Meav.

Not to worry. From the sounds of this thread, Orlagh and Meav will have no doubts as to their fans supporting them from anywhere in the theatre!! I am not familar with David Archuleta from American Idol, but if Orlagh has invited him to be a guest artist, he must be very good. I am sure his fans are as just as excited as we are - of course, they have never witnessed a Forum gathering. We are a force to be reckoned with! LOL

I sent an email request for one ticket as soon as I heard the news on Orla's twitter on 8/16, but later found out that it had already been announced on Orla's official website on 8/14. I thought it was too late for me to get a free ticket since I sent my request later than everyone else. However I received the following email from Ben Barr this morning:

That's a really good point. David is young, he's only 19 and he was the runner-up on his season of idol (I think he should have won, quite personally). He was pretty popular then (don't know about now). I imagine he's got a lot of teen girls swooning. He sure seemed to have them going nuts when he was on Idol!! (and I voted for him too, LOL). He does have a great voice, I'll admit. Hopefully the front few rows will be dominated by y'all, though!!! Just push your way in there and get there at 6am if you have to! LOL ;D

Or you could camp out overnight. ;D

The Polk Theatre seats 1015 if the orchestra pit seats are installed, and 979 if they are removed.

I think they will be removed for this event.

You can tell by using the link I gave earlier that you will have a good view wherever you sit.

True! But not only am I addicted to concerts....I am also addicted to front row seats  :D

Perhaps we need to look at this from the perspective of good ole' American capitalism. We got free tickets this time, but how many of us have paid a PBS premium to get those front row seats. If things were done different, lets say they offered to sell front row seats for , say $100, would forum members have bought them? You bet. Now paying for a place in line could be dangerous. Because once inside, the youngsters can run right by us geezers and capture those prized front row seats. But, what if....

We LET them do it. Dont worry at all about lines, getting there early, etc. Arrive, go inside, find a David fan up front, and offer to pay for the seat. Is that very different from paying PBS an arm and a leg for one? Well in a way it is. It wont be tax deductable. And PBS doesnt say no if the ticket is available. A kid might say no. But then again, if a kid is accompanied by a parent who is grumpy because he/she just waited 5 hours in line and spent a lot of money on hotels, parking, and transportation, that parent might take the money to help pay for it all and move to the back, keeping an eye on their kid from a distance.

There is another slight possible flaw to my plan. Thats if ushers direct people to seats in order they are in line. Like say they tell people where to sit, starting with the front and working back. Then everything is based on the spot in line. Then though paying for the front line places would pay off.

There is also Tazza (which we LOVE), and it's less than 2 blocks from the hotel, but their website isn't working,  >:( I can say that they have all kinds of food at reasonable prices.  We have eaten there several times and have yet to have a bad experience.

    I would say that if you have eaten at Tazza and say it's good then that would be fine with me!!  As  Maggie said, we need a list!! LOL   I do not have the "puter" skills to do that but maybe someone could start one on the first page  and enter all those that have said they were coming throughout the thread. Then,if you don't see your name ( and you are coming! LOL) you can have it added to the list.  We should do this ASAP, people, time is VERY short!!

The problem with 417 Union is they have funky hours, a small dining room, and close at 3. Ennica and I eat at Tazza all the time and we have never had a problem. We LOVE that place and they can handle a large group well. We don't know anything about Mulligan's.

If we can nail down a time and number of attendees, we can go ahead and give them a heads up that we'll be invading!  ;D

  The numbers are matching the Forum Fests!!  This should let Orlagh and Meave know we will back them at what ever they do!! May be a small shock for them, too, with this turnout!!  Way to go Fourmites-- we've done it again!! LOL
    We will definitly need a pretty big place to fit this many members and if Tazza can accomidate us---!   Just point me to a chair and I will sit down and eat and enjoy the company!! Yeah, I'm easy.  ::) ::)  But we need to know how many of those coming for the concert will also be going to the early dinner.   Let's make this as easy as we can for Jamie!!   I suggest a 3pm dinner and we have to remember that even CW has had unfavorable reviews-- and we all know how wrong those were!!

 Looks great, Maggie!! LOL  I wish I had something Christmas-y that didn't involve a jacket!!!  The forcast high for the 31st is 94.   I don't see ( but I'm sure hoping!!)  a cold front dropping the temp much in 2 days.   Getting a short sleeve shirt though!!! LOL   We don't have to put on the warmer clothing until the taping is about to start--maybe. But I sure won't be wearing my coat  while standing in line.

Hey they seem to have black-balled me too. Usually that doesnt happen until after people actually meet me! Some type of pre-emptive thing going here because my reputation preceeds me? Geesh y'all are a tough crowd.  :D

Seriously though, I hope to recruit someone with a good camera and ask for their assistance at 2 possible times. First, before we actually enter, I hope to get a few pictures outside near any sign they might have posted for the event, or, a sign with the name of the theatre. Second, if there is some type of M&G after and if photos are allowed and done, to get my pic there too. Of course we do know cameras are not allowed during the actual event.

Also, anyone doing any type of sign? I have an idea, and I hope to have one, if they are allowed (going to try to check on that) . But, is there a way to print a good quality one out without going to a FedEx Office type place that will charge $50 - $100?

Let's not forget this is a PBS taping.

Signs are probably not allowed, no rowdy behaviour, no drinking during the performance, no guns,
while we are in the theatre we have to behave like proper ladies and gentlemen at Christmas.
How that is going to work with the David Archie fans I don't know! :D

    Without Emily and Kasey going to be there,( for which I am very sad!!!)  it will make my job a lot easier trying to keep everyone calmed down!!  I already know that Kathleen and Zee will be a challenge, and if Lucie brings the chimp I may need some help!!!

I can think of several good reasons to keep signs out, or, to strictly regulate them. I agree that they will likely ban them. But I have already done a little bit on this, and just need to do a few modifications to have a first draft of it. Then will go from there.

You can dress as crazily christmasly as you want, and wave a HUGE sign, and sing and dance and nobody's going to mind!!!!

The only time I've been to Nashville was to visit Cathy (Lewis) in Vanderbilt Hospital.....she was in bad shape
and was told she would probably never walk again, following a horrendous automobile accident in 2007.
She "died" and was revived several times on the Lifeflight helicopter.

So we are celebrating the triumph of Cathy's spirit....even though she can't join us at the concert,
Dave and I will be seeing her while we're up there....she is walking, laughing, and as feisty as ever!

Let's hear it for feisty women!!!

Just saying:  guests at the Doubletree (maybe other hotels, too) arriving Thursday may need to make arrangements with the hotel; check-in is 3:00 pm.

   I just received a mail from Sandy saying the downtown Doubletree does NOT have a shuttle to the airport.  I have checked all the info I have and she is correct-- it says nothing about it in my reservations!! And also it says the distance is 10 miles from airport to hotel.    When I talked to someone they said they did have a shuttle but, as Sandy and Marie pointed out, it was probably for the airport Dtree. Sorry if this is a shocker for anyone. I know it was to me!!  According to Google it's $20 for a taxi.

Going from the Hotel to the Airport, it picks up every 30 minutes.
They run from 5:00am to 11:00pm. It costs $12 one way and $20 round trip.

It's half as much as a taxi-- IF you want to wait for it.  But at least it's an alternative!  I am a bit confused because when you get directions from the hotel to the airport it comes up with the 6.4 miles!!!  Well, either way, I'm not going to stop when I hit 6.4 or continue on until I hit ten-- I will go to the passenger pick-up and wait!!! LOL  And just to show it who's boss-- I'm not even going to check the milage!!  So there!!

All who are going to Nashville -
there are two things to consider......other than obvious excitement, and remembering to pack your Christmas outfit......
we will all be travelling back home when Labor Day crowds are on the move.

Seriously though, looks like a lot of cool places right there in that one small area. Tennessee state capitol building, music places of interest, etc.

Yes.  There's a lot in the near vicinity.  2nd Avenue and Broadway are home to some of the famous honkytonks in town.  (Tootsie's anyone?)  While it looks like TPAC is a block from the hotel, it's actually across the street.  If you go out the door by the Starbucks in the hotel and go to your right, you'll be on the corner of 5th and Deaderick.  That's where you'd cross to walk up to TPAC.  The Tennessee State Museum is in the same building with TPAC, which takes up that entire block.   :)

Tazza is within easy walking distance and there's a parking lot right next door, for anyone who elects to drive.  Basically, you'd go up 4th Avenue (if driving) and turn right on Church.  If you're walking, you'd walk up 5th Ave against traffic and turn right on Church.  The restaurant is about half-way down the block on the right.  4th and 5th Avenues are one way streets.   :-\

If you're wondering why I know all this, Ennica works in the building across from the Doubletree and eats lunch at Tazza on a fairly regular basis.  The Starbucks is also a popular place to visit for people she works with.

Ennica has hijacked my account and is writing the great American novel on the benefits of this area of downtown.  Yes, this is Ennica, and Jamie just busted me using her account to reply.  It's easier than signing out of her account just to sign in again with mine.  Anyone who knows us probably figured that out after the first two sentences.   ;D

Where is the best place, or the best landmark, to get a picture near, or capture in the background of a pic, that says "I am in Nashville?" Perhaps the Grand Ole Opry? Or some statue of someone? Or other landmark?

Do me and your family a big favor and remember there will be a lot of people on the road not paying attention. Please travel safely to and from this wonderful concert and look out for those who are not paying attention. ::)  Every Holiday patrol I pray I get through it by not having to respond to an accident especially a fatal.  I am not looking to put a damper on the excitement of this fantastic concert just keep in the back of your mind to look out for those who are not looking out for you. ;)

Unfortunately the Grand Ole Opry was beat down by the flood and is not open. As far as landmarks go, I personally would choose the "Bat Tower" (the AT&T building) it's been in many movies and just looks cool. It's downtown, too. 

There's also a few well known bars downtown that are famous for getting some stars their start (if that interests you). Ennica will probably know which ones better than I do and will probably have some other ideas, too.

Has anyone been to the Parthenon in Nashville? Is it worth visiting? I'm looking for a place to spend my Friday morning in Nashville before heading back home..  :)

   It most certainly is worth visiting! It's a scale model of the Parthenon of Athens.  A beautiful place!

Is it close to where we will be? I easily get lost!

I am taking pictures and sharpies just in case we do get some type of autograph opportunity. Would hate it if they worked something out and provided one, yet I came unprepared. Like that old boy scout saying...Be Prepared!  But I also suspect that if something were to be done, like a meet&greet, it would have to proceed along very fast. Too many fans there to leisurly chit-chat, unless they want to be with us all night.

It's only 2.5 miles away from TPAC :D

I agree, John. It definitely is worth a visit and I believe that it is the ONLY model of the Parthenon built to the exact scale of the ancient wonder in Greece.

Everyone....the taping was great! Orlagh and Meav looked just beautiful and were so gracious and wonderful. They just put a a smile on my face!  It was like welcoming old friends back home again.....for Christmas!

I am home and now am off again to the mountains for labor day weekend. Everyone who is traveling....be safe. It was great seeing everyone. And what ever anybody says....it was not my fault they had to stop and start once.  Meav has the evidence!

I just got home from Nashville. It's been quite a long journey for me but I managed to return safely.
I know it sounds lame, but last night was easily the most emotionally exhilarating night of my entire life... it was just FANTASTIC!!!!!!
The best part was that I was only two rows from the stage!!! (left PIT, row CC) ..Need I say more?  ;D
After the show, I was given a chance to talk to Orlagh & Meav, and got autographs from them. :D They were so kind and generous.
Can't wait until the show airs on Thanksgiving!

Just got back a little bit ago.  I had the most amazing time.  It was nice to meet alot of the forum members I haven't ever had the pleasure to meet before.  You guys rock.  :)     It was so fun watching them film a dvd. 
It seems like somewhere in some interview I heard Orlagh use the word ELATION.  That's what this was.  Seeing Meav for the first time in person and both of them together.  Elation fits.  It will be awhile before I come down from this.  Thanks Orlagh and Meav.  I listened to you Christmas cd on the way home beautiful.  Thank you both for what you do.

I'll post something about this event when I've had time to gather my thoughts a little.  For now, suffice to say it was simply an incredible experience.  And one of the highest points was seeing Órlagh and Kelli so happy.  Whatever deity you worship, thank Him for giving us people like Órlagh, Kelli and Zee.  They restore my faith in humanity.

 Amen to that, Rich!!  I don't think I saw a second when they weren't just beaming-- That includes Orlagh!!!  What a performance by everyone!!

Orlagh looked breathtaking,sounded angelic,and looked perfectly at ease onstage. It was very evident from watching the interactions of the other musicians that they loved performing with Orlagh. How can you not respect her enormous talent and easygoing manner?!!

And if the taping wasn't enough, I got to share time with Kelli and re-connect with some old forum buddies and meet new friends. Does it get any better than that? I THINK NOT!!!  ;D ;D ;D

This was an amazing performance! It was soooo wonderful to see dear Orlagh again and I was so thrilled to finally meet Meav. But better than all that was the wonderful people I spent the trip with. Nothing compares to love and friendship shared by the members on this forum.

I don't think anybody said it yet, but it was not only Órla at her finest but it was also A-Méav-ing!  I was up for 22 hours on Thursday and it was worth every minute.  I finally got to meet Méav!  It was great to see old and new friends from all the forums, all together to support and celebrate two of the loveliest people on the planet.  As much as I hate cold weather, I can't wait for Thanksgiving.

This trip was an incredible experience:  reunions and introductions, a walking tour of Nashville with some of my favorite people in the world, Orla's Christmas concert (twice), being part of a television special, meeting Orla and Meav in the hotel lobby, and second-to-none, meeting Kelli (Orla knows how to choose her friends).  Thanks for the memories, everyone.

I had a similar reaction... "Do You See What I See" and "O Holy Night" are among my favorite holiday songs.  I look forward to the broadcast of this show.... the entire thing sounds lovely, but I'm esp. looking forward to those to songs.  :)

We got home in the early hours of this morning.....after being delayed trying to get through Chattanooga in heavy rain
and even heavier traffic.
However, we didn't have a problem getting through Atlanta on I-75 about 7pm.
We made a couple of stops along the way.

I will try to gather my thoughts about this incredible, wonderful 3 days and post a review.
It was a great joy to reunite with old friends and meet new ones, and Dave really enjoyed meeting y'all.
Yes, "y'all" was the most used expression of the event, even Órlagh became an expert at saying it with a Southern drawl! :D

    Probably tomorrow, Becky.  I'll be tied up until then.  I'm a little disappointed with the quality of them, as the lighting was bad in the lobby and they appear grainy when I lighten them up.  Hopefully some good photographers were present who will also post theirs!   :)

Dave has been editing his movie clips all afternoon, he has some great ones taken during the interval.
He didn't take any during the filming of course.
He has some nice shots during the dinner......he is trying to work out how to capture still photos from the video.

I hope to see some of the ones taken by Forum friends at breakfast on Friday....they should be very funny!!!

The filming at TPAC was amazing, the people who left early really missed a treat....even though I fell asleep while they were rearranging everything. I woke up and we were there until almost midnight!
Órlagh was so wonderful with all of us......she kept saying "You all look fabulous!" and I don't know how many times she thanked us for being there.
Seeing Méav again was very moving, especially when she and Órlagh sang so beautifully together,
I think there were a few damp eyes in the audience!  
I had never seen David Archuleta before, he has a great voice and was very sweet, Órlagh has adopted him as her new baby brother. He was very generous with his fans too.
I had never heard of Mark Wills either, but I like what I have learned......not only is he a good Country Singer, but he has visited our Troops in the Middle East several times, and actively supports several Charities including the Childrens' Miracle Network. "Starman" had very kindly given his 2 spare tickets to Cathy and her friend Holly, they enjoyed it immensely.

We got to the theatre about 5:30pm and stood in line, but then something happened. I remembered I got a call from PBS a few days ago asking me to be at Will-Call at 6:15 to get my tickets. I had forgotten I had pledged for 2 tickets just in case I didn't get the others. So I went to the Will-Call at 6:15pm and got 2 more tickets, and we transferred to the PBS line. When we got into the theatre, some of the Forum Gang were in the Orchestra Pit seats calling to us, they had saved some seats. So we were on the second row, inches from the stage. Thankyou!!!
The atmosphere was great and very festive, with everyone dressed for Christmas.
Other Forum Members who were there have already described the songs and wonderful voices....it was truly a wonderful experience and a great privilege to be there. All the artists, especially Órlagh, were very patient when they were called back on stage several times. It must have been very tiring, no wonder they were forgetting the words towards the end!
Órlagh, Méav and David Archuleta were staying at the Doubletree, and we saw them several times.
Órlagh and Méav each came over to chat to us on Thursday morning, they were so sweet and kind!

When we were all getting ready to leave on Friday morning, after a great "Forum Gathering" at breakfast,
we saw Órlagh and Méav again.

We will treasure the memories made in Nashville.....time spent talking, laughing and eating with wonderful friends, a unique experience with first-rate artists, watching the making of a fantastic Christmas DVD.....and the magic and wonder  of Órlagh and Méav....what more could anyone want?

I have other memories to share later.....little fun moments, and the sheer joy of sharing them with Cathy.....

April 2007 was the only other time I had ever been to Nashville....I went to Vanderbilt Hospital to see Cathy after her almost-fatal accident. She was in bad shape, nobody thought she would ever regain use of her legs or arms.
Her legs had to be rebuilt during months of painful surgery, and loss of income added to her worries.
With courage and determination, she proved the doctors wrong.....and I'm so glad she did.
It was great to see how much she enjoyed her first experience of Órlagh and Méav LIVE!

Thanks for your advices. I actually did go see it yesterday morning. I didn't tour the inside but it was kinda cool to just walk around and pretend I'm in Greece.. lol. I really liked it.. and the park was clean and beautiful. It was HUGE! Best urban park I've ever seen in my life.

  Ok where to start, I've waited a couple of days to gather my thoughts especially being the first time meeting so many from the forum for the first time. I have to start by thanking Kelli, if it wasn't for her I would never have started the journey I've been on since 2007, that is trying to do portraits of all CW past and present and to present them to each and everyone. It was Kelli who put me in touch with this forum and Rich who put me in touch with CW Ltd. in order to get my work to the girls. Kelli I love you and Rich I love you man. The two of you have created something incredible and have touched my life deeply.
   The show absolutely the best Christmas Show I have ever seen and even beats White Christmas I've been watching since I was a boy. The arrangements were out of this world, Orla you are better than ever and what a group you put together. If it wasn't for Orla having this I would have never got her Birthday present to her and this great portrait of Meav to her. Thank you dear Orla and thank you Meav for accepting this humble work of art from someone you never even heard of. I just hope you didn't notice me boo hooing when you gave me that hug, I tried to hide it, you know us big men we don't cry for anything. I've had nothing but sadness in my life since I was very young to shed tears over, for the first time in my life I shed tears of Joy. Kelli those where tears of joy when I finally met you after knowing you for all these years. You are an amazing person.
   I'd also like to thank Zee, you are the best. It was just great to meet lots of you again and many for the first time, I definitely have to make a forum fest the next time. I just wish we had the stamina to stay with the group as long as everyone else did, Brenda was in bad shape and I didn't have much left either so we are sorry we didn't have much of a chance to say goodbye to all.
   Dinner was amazing with so many forum people there and so many to meet. I hope to post more although with the economy in a tailspin and my commisions down a ton I've taken up two part time jobs to make ends meet and Brenda hasn't worked since May because of the oil spill. So working three jobs at my age keeps me exhausted all the time.
   Finally I'll post the two portraits of Orla and Meav, Orla's was done for her birthday last year and I thought I could send it to her via Kelli but the cost was prohibitive, thanks to Orla and everyone mission accomplished just a wee bit late.

Just wondering here...

Has anyone heard anything about any Christmas concerts in conjunction with the DVD release? Did anyone ask Orla or her manager about that? Granted it could never be a full tour, per se, yet I would think that she could do a few in some major cities like Boston, NY, Philly, Chicago, etc., make a few dollars, and still be home in time for Christmas.

ok.....now that the crazy first days of school are over it's time for my review of Orlagh's PBS special taping:
Obviously for all who attended, seeing Orlagh was THE best part of our time together, but I have to say it was great seeing all my Forum friends again (Rich, Kelli, Zee, Chris, Joe, Kathy, Mike , Tom, just everybody!!!) and meeting some great new ones Maggie and Dave, Charlie and Norma,, Marie France, Sandi, Maggie's friend Cathy, Stan And Brenda, ..so many I can't begin to name you all...so to everyone Thanks for being there, so glad we all got to meet!!!
The dinner was great and introductions were made all around..and yes, I AM AN ORLAGHOLIC ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
We all enjoyed some great food and companionship and Maggie you are just a HOOT!!!!
You know I always love hearing about your unqiue perspective on Ireland, and it was great to finally meet you and Dave.
On to the SHOW!!!!!!
So at the Polk center they had 2 lines , one for PBS pledgers and one for those with ticket vouchers. Now I had pledged for 2 tickets for Rich and Chris and had a voucher for my ticket, so I swapped with Rich and got in the pledged line. As it worked out Rich and Chris sat with Kell and Zee right in the front row. SO when they let people in, there were empty seats in front right next to Chris, so I sat next to Chris and had a great view of everything.
So after the preliminaries with Denny and the director out comes Orlagh to ROUSING applause in a stunning Gold dress and looking incredibly beautiful as always. It was easy to see the surprise on her face as she realized how many familiar faces there were.
The music was wonderful and it was apparent to all, just how much Orlagh loves performing and doing something special for her audience. She is JUST AMAZING!!!!!!
For me the highlight was when they stopped taping and Orlagh came to the front to say hello to us and eventually she came over and looked around and said "Where's my friend Bruce?" and spotting me through the lights, knelt down in front of me (I was sooo afraid she'd trip on her dress or the lights) and bent down and gave me a hug and a kiss... :o :o :o :o :o

The entire show was just amazing and Orlagh, Maev, Dave everyone did a great job.
A HUGE Thanks here to Denny Young and his staff for everything they do for Orlagh. I know from experience that a huge amount of time and effort goes into a project such as this, and you know by talking with them they all Love Orlagh just as we do..what a GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also a HUGE Thanks to PBS and NPT for their support of musicians, especially Orlagh, but all the music PBS brings to the public...it's a wonderful thing!!!!!!!!!
Anyway..we all headed back to the Hotel after the show...trying to absorb what we'd just been a part of and I realized the Still Smiling Club just grew by LEAPS AND BOUNDS!  Woooooooo Hooooo!
After waiting quite some time Orlagh arrived and stopped to talk with folks, though she must have been incredibly tired, as always she loves talking with supporters and this was no exception.
I preferred to just watch and see folks who hadn't met her before have the wonderful experience to get to talk with her face to face for the first time. You never forget that. Ever.
Next morning some of us folks met for breakfast and listened to Maggie's stories and have some great conversation.
Later in the morning Orlagh was talking with Sandi and some friends and when she finished came over to me to say Hello..I got another Huge Orlagh hug (I love those.. ;D )and we talked for a bit about some of her plans for the future before she had to leave.
DON'T ASK CAUSE I AIN"T TELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
I do know this....
Orlagh, I can never ever begin to repay your kindness to me except to support you in any way I can, and I will do that long as I'm able.
You are a unique and very special Lady and Musician, the likes of which I've never encountered... EVER..and I know all who have had the honor of meeting you will agree.
Thank you so much for inviting us to your taping, and asking us to be a part of something very special.
I heard it said many many times, and I have to say it here..we are all so proud of you and what you have accomplished thus far on your own...and we know things will only grow from here.
You are such a beautiful Soul, you deserve everything!!!!!
Personally I can't wait to see the Still Smiling Club membership in the millions..but that won't be long now, I think!!!

Hey this sounds great and I'm sorry I haven't posted before. Does anyone have a set list or can you not reveal the songs yet?

Oh these pictures made me smile Maggie!! We had such a great time cutting up and walking around town.
