It appears that Lynn Hilary is leaving Celtic Woman... I was just on the Celtic Woman website and found this message....

I have had the most incredible experience with Celtic Woman. I feel so lucky to have had the privilege of being able to call myself a Celtic Woman if only for three short years. However I have grown to miss Ireland and my life there more and more, so I’ve decided to take my leave while the going is good. I will miss all my friends terribly and especially three very special ladies; Mairead Nesbitt, Chloe Agnew and Lisa Kelly, whom after the hectic year we have all had I will now always think of as “Super-Women” as opposed to Celtic Women!! I will never forget the warmth and acceptance that I experienced from them and from the fans on my arrival and on filling such big shoes. Thanks also to the fans for making this whole experience all the more colourful! I also want to take this opportunity to thank the amazing Celtic Woman team behind the scenes, they work so hard and have been integral in making Celtic Woman the fabulous success that is has been and I know will continue to be.

Wow. I'm really shocked at this one. Did not see this coming. At ALL. Holy cow...

Lynn will be SERIOUSLY missed like crazy. I've never seen a Celtic Woman show without her. Meav was already gone when I became a CW fan, and as such, I've always felt more connected to Lynn than to Meav. I love her solo album so much, and she was so perfect as a CW girl.

That said, I totally get it.

Lynn seems like a homebody (not unlike myself) and I can definitely see her missing her life in Ireland like crazy when she's gone from it for almost the entire year. Time to move on to new things!

I am absolutely shocked! I never saw this coming, and it's all the more disappointing since I never got the honor and pleasure of meeting Lynn at a meet and greet (same with Alex). Though, I'll always remember the big grins and winks she sent my way at the shows I did attend, so in a way, I did meet her. Still, it would have been an honor to tell her in person how much I appreciate her contribution to Celtic Woman, and how much I loved her harmonies and her solos.

If you ever read this, Lynn, I'd like to send you my warmest regards and admiration. It's a pity we never got to meet in person, but who knows what the future will bring? Keep singing, you Angel of the Emerald Isle!

I'm surprised, but at the same time, not.  I agree with the comment by Emily! that she seems more like a homebody.

   What a blow to us after the high of a wonderfully-successful Australian tour and then sadly learning of Des Moore's departure!  With the tremendously-taxing tour schedule they follow, I am constantly in fear of such news.  That fear is certainly realized this day!  :'( :'( :'(

I am shocked and heartbroken  :'(   Plus I am a bit surprised at how sad I am. I have never liked it when one left, but for some reason this one hit me much much harder. I never did tell her my golden retriever stories, or tell her my idea about her starting Lynn's vegan&vegetarian healthy fast food restaurant.

I hope that she can team up with other CW alums and do a few shows over here in the USA. Or do another CD. Or better yet, we find out this is some type if mistake and she isn't leaving at all. This is really a big time bummer.

Lynn, you have captured my heart and I will miss you terribly.  I was looking forward to seeing you in concert next year.  :'(  However, I know you have a wonderful future ahead of you and you will go very very far.  Celtic Woman won't be the same without you, thanks for being a part of it, and thank you so much for sharing your beautiful voice with us.

I must admit I am surprised at Lynn's departure but not totally shocked. I completely understand Lynn's wanting to spend more time in her native land of Ireland.

I can't say that i'm entirely surprised... This years tour scheduled has been one of the longest ones. I'm not gonna speculate how this will effect 2011. But it's gonna be tough for them...

All I can say it thank you Lynn for the time you've put forth into Celtic Woman. You entered CW with big shoes to fill and leave with shoes of your own to fill. I Wish you best of luck on your future endeavors and thank you again! :)

Awww! This is so sad. Lynn was deeply loved by everyone. We'll miss her terribly! I wonder who will replace her? I just was told this and it's a little shocking. A bunch of girls have left so it's not a huge surprise but thank you Lynn for gracing us with your melodic sounds :)

Very, very sad news. :(  To me Lynn will always be one of the most awesome singers in this world.  I am glad I had a chance to meet her at my signing in Spring '09.  Perhaps someday she'll do a solo tour.  I'd love to see her perform again.

I was so surprised at reading the news of her departure that I didn't really say anything about it other than posting what I found on CelticWoman.com.  I'm saddened at her departure, but I have faith that Celtic Woman will continue to be terrific, and I'm excited about seeing who will join the girls for 2011.

I spent a great deal of time traveling in my military career, so I have some sense of how difficult it is for all the girls to be on the road so much, and I don't begrudge Lynn's decision at all, though we will sorely miss her. Perhaps we'll see her again in the future, with or without Celtic Woman.  I have hope... The announcement from the front page of Celtic Woman says:

Celtic Woman would like to announce that our fantastic singer, Lynn Hilary, has decided to take a break from touring with Songs from the Heart.  Maybe the break won't be a permanent one?

Scott Porter tweeted a short while ago:

Sad news today about Lynn leaving but very excited for her future and know we will be working with her again!

And Lynn signed off on her message with "Slán go fóill", which from what I could find translates to "Bye for now...."

However, even if it is a permanent break, I wish Lynn the best of luck and happiness in whatever she does in the future...

Well, every time a girl has left CW they've always called it a "break," but it has always been a permanent departure.

Awwwww, no!! This is sooo sad! :'( Well, it can't be helped, and I can certainly understand the homesick feeling. (my family and I travel a LOT). Best of luck to you, Lynn, in your future. We know that whatever you do, it will be amazing <3

Noooo. First Alex then Des now Lynn. Lynn was the only current member of CW that I had not had the chance to meet. I was looking to maybe meeting her during the spring tour :(. But thanks to wonderful forum members I was still able to get her autograph.

I'm very sad to hear of Lynn's decision to leave Celtic Woman, but like so many others have said, I definitely understand her missing home and wanting more time there.  I first saw Lynn shortly after her first tour began and I could tell right away she was going to be well loved with the group!  I think Celtic Woman has helped Lynn to expand her horizons a bit.  With an already fantastic background, including both Riverdance and Anuna, CW was a little bit different type of performance and she has been amazing!  I'm really looking forward to seeing where she goes from here!

Lynn, I am so glad I got to meet you and Alex in 2010, before each of you made this difficult decision!  Good luck with the future, enjoy every moment of it, and don't forget:  Once a Celtic Woman, ALWAYS a Celtic Woman!

I had tears in my eyes when I heard that Lynn had decided to leave Celtic Woman. :'( I was listening to Lynn's album all day before I read the news.

Lynn, I had the honor to see you perform twice with Celtic Woman. I will miss seing you at future shows. You always had a special place in my heart and you always will. Deep down I know that this not goodbye forever, that its only goodbye for now and when the time is right I know we will see you again in the future. Lynn... a very beautiful woman... an angelic voice... a phenomenal singer. No words can express my sadness, but I hope It's just a "break" and not a "full time break"... The message on twitter by Scott Porter is positive : "Sad news today about Lynn leaving but very excited for her future and know we will be working with her again!" I really hope she's back again, I've seen her one time in Wallingford and It was the best night of my life... I wish her success and happiness for the future. She will always be a CELTIC WOMAN !
Lisa say on her Facebook Page : "On a side note it's sad news about lynn's departure from CW but as she said it's something she needs to do. She will be sorely missed on and off stage but we are fully supportive of her decision. It'll all be ok xxx"

You can edit this message, delete it, but I have to say... I still did not get over the fact that Alex is gone and now Lynn? Please! This is too much for me, too much, I will not stand one more change in this group!  I do not know you, but I cannot face it so easily and I will not say that I am saying "Oh, be good Lynn even if it is away from Celtic Woman", I am not! I am very sad, I've just woken up and look at what I see! I am sorry but I think this is a soft way of saying "The end of Celtic Woman" and this last cd was a kind of "Farewell"

I am very sad and I cannot stand this anymore! Think wathever you want but I do not know how you can accept this in a so easy way... As a fan I feel like saying that, we also feel sad when someone's leaving...

When I heard yesterday, I felt the same way.  It just seemed too much.

Upon thinking about it a little, I have come to accept it now.   If you think about it, it is probably better for Lynn.

This will give her a chance to work on that next CD!!!  She is a very talented young woman and I think we will be seeing more from her very soon.

We have not lost her.

This is very true, but...

Do we know why she left? I dont think so, and before we speculate, we shouldnt. I can think of any number of reasons. But there is something thats a bit different this time.

Didnt the announcement say that she is taking a break from Songs from the Heart? It didnt say Celtic Woman, like some of the other previous statements. Could they be doing something interesting, like, maybe, starting a second troupe? Or have a member tour solo? They have experiemnted with change before and done some different things. We of course don't know....at least not yet.

But I am going to hold out and hope this is a temp thing.

Yes, I caught that it said taking a break from touring with SftH.  That could be seen to indicate there there may be future involvement with CW, which would be great!  Still, even if she doesn't come back to CW, I suspect she'll go on to other musical projects, and that we haven't seen or heard the last of her!

Yes, it's very sad that Lynn is leaving CW....and we will all miss her.

It is Lynn's choice, and I'm sure she has been thinking it through for a long time.
So this is what she wants to do, and she will go on to other projects in her career.

Nothing lasts forever, I have said from the beginning of CW that one day it will end,
or it will evolve like Anúna, with changes of the cast. That's why it's called "Celtic Woman", it's an entity....
and there is a never-ending supply of talented Celtic Ladies.
As with Anúna, the Management of CW seem to have always left the door open for their return, calling it a "break"
each time an artist has left.

I am no Spring chicken, I have seen a lot of changes in the world, and in my own life.
You have to just move along.....life is full of changes, some good, some not so good.

With each change, if there is something you can do about it, you leap into action and try to make it better.
If there is nothing you can do about it, you must accept it for what it is, and look forward to whatever is coming next.

That's how I live my life.....that's why my blood pressure is normal and my glass is always half full.

I wouldn't count on it this is a temperary leave. Her message doesn't suggest it's just a break. But how she described for love for Celtic Woman and her thankfullness for the acceptance and warmth from the fans was fantastic. She is truly a humble lady, with an incredible talent.

Her departure might bring new treasures.. maybe a new solo-album? That would be so great. I highly doubt this would be the last time we've heard from Lynn.

Such decisions are not taken lightly, and she must have plans.

Look how sad we were when Órlagh left CW! It was heartbreaking to lose not only a wonderful singer
but their fantastic harpist.

I heard about this last night while I wasn't at home.  Its just really hitting me now, and I'm sad to see Lynn go.  I've had the pleasure of meeting her 3 times since last October and I feel extremely lucky for having gotten the chance.  Lynn was always so kind to both Katharine and me and remembered us at each M&G!  She will be missed very much, but as everyone else has said, its her decision and I completely support her!  I doubt this will be the last time we've heard from her!  Good luck, Lynn! :)

She said her reasoning right in the message: she misses her life in Ireland more and more and wants to move on. That's that.

I think like Mary said, it's obvious from the tone of her message that this is permanent.

Personally, I don't really care what her reasons are for leaving because it's none of my business. She's a lovely person, an absolutely beautiful singer, and she's been an asset to CW as long as I've been a fan. I will miss her dearly at the shows, but look forward to hearing more from her in the future if she chooses to embark on a solo career. As Maggie said, we all were sad when Orla left, but she's better than ever now!!!

Just saw the news! It hit as hard as Meav's departure. I'll be looking forward to supporting her solo projects.

I am quite sad to hear this! I enjoyed Lynn's contribution to Celtic Woman so much! She will be dearly missed :( But many blessings to her in her future endeavors!

It is very sad to hear about Lynn's departure, however I'm glad she's doing what she feels she needs to do. I'm sure I'd miss my home too after touring so much. One thing is for sure, Celtic Woman is an evolving group and we have yet to be disappointed!!!

I had Lynn at M&G twice and she was such a joy to talk to.  I only had one problem with her---I never could teach her how to pronounce "Carolina"! :D 

As for replacements for Lynn and Alex, I think it's time to begin the rotation again.  It's about time for Meav and Orla to make their return.  What a great tour that would be!

However, Órla is currently ridng her rocketship Destiny to solo stardom. I can't picture her chopping the throttle on that Mach 5 vehicle when its on full song. And it's going to be on full song for some time I pray. As for Méav I suspect her girls are still too young for her to hop back on the CW bus. But I think there is room for you and I to dream sweet dreams about a return of Méav someday.

I wish I could say that the shock is wearing off a bit tonite so that I can now formulate words and sentences.......but nope.

What I would like to say is:
To Lynn, I have NO doubt that you will succeed in absolutely anything you put your hands (and voice) to do.  And no matter what your future plans include, please know that we loved every minute of your time with CW and will continue to love and support you wherever this new road leads you.

To my fellow forumites, I know that you are grieving this news as I am, same as we did when Meav and Orla and Alex announced their changing plans.  But CW will go on.  If David was brilliant enough to invite Alex and Lynn to step in and fill Orla and Meav's shoes, then I have no doubt that he will find the perfect lady (or ladies) to step into those roles once again.

 

I am very sad that Lynn is leaving.  I definitely never saw it coming!  As some others mentioned, though, the first thing I thought of when I found out was the lyrics from Road to Glory--very fitting for this.  I agree with Emily, I am most definitely a homebody and can definitely understand her wanting to go back home!!  I am so very glad I had the opportunity to meet her those three times--very special memories I will never forget!!  She is an amazing performer, and as Kristine said, I don't think we've seen the last of her!!  :)

Lynn, thank you so much for everything during your years with Celtic Woman!  You are truly a gifted performer, and I am so glad that I had the pleasure of seeing you perform with Celtic Woman.  Best of luck with whatever you decide to do next!!!

  Add me to the list of those who are shocked-but-understanding of Lynn's announcement that she is leaving Celtic Woman.  I'm also on the list of those who don't think her "break" is temporary  :'(  (I really hope time proves me wrong).   
  Lynn has been in every CW concert and the first M&G I've been to, and I loved her at first sight/first note.  She minimized Meav's departure and leaves some mighty big shoes to be filled.  I'm sure Team CW will find another wonderful Irish lady who will blow us away, too; but gee, I will always miss Lynn and her talent, beauty, grace, warmth and stage presence.  I still consider her performance of  "Carolina Rua" in that red gown to be as good as anything I've ever seen on stage (:D and a major contributor to Global Warming  :D). 
  I'm another forever-fan, and I hope her career choices give her happiness and fulfillment and maybe even bring her back to us someday on a tour of her own.  Peace & Love and all the best to you, Lynn.

Thank you for the three years you gave up most of the rest of your life to be with Celtic Woman.  You will be deeply missed but I totally understand and respect your decision and wish you nothing but the best.  I can't imagine leaving my home, family, pets and friends for such tremendously long periods of time, not matter how much I enjoyed what I was going on the road to do.  I enjoyed speaking with you several times and you were always very nice and kind. I must say that I was devastated to learn you would be leaving Celtic Woman. But I can also see why. I first want to wish you all the love that I have to offer and the best of luck in whatever future endeavors you make. I secondly want to say that, even though I've never met you (cuz I've never been to a live concert), your beautiful and warm smile has helped me through some tough times. As has your wonderful voice. I can remember the first time I heard it! It was on some skating program that Celtic Woman was on and you, Chloe, Lisa, and Orla were singing One World. Dear Lynn....As I told Orlagh when she left CW, so I will tell you now.
Please know that you will continue to have our support and best wishes always. We Thank you for the comittment and sacrifice it took to be a part of Celtic Woman. You are a beautiful Lady, with such a wonderful voice, I am sure great things lie in the future for you.
As a musician myself, I know how difficult being on the road can be, and you have to do what's best for Lynn, first and foremost. If that requires going a different road, so be it. We all want you to be happy in what you do, you would wish the same for all of us.
Best of luck to you on the adventure ahead, whatever path you choose to take.

I still can't get used to the idea that she's just NOT going to be there when (hopefully) I FINALLY get to see my first CW concert next year.... She's not my favorite member of CW, but for some reason... I just can't believe that she's really not going to be there......

Last weekend, I was in New York City to take 2 of my Nieces for some early Christmas shopping, and to see West Side Story on Broadway.  So, I missed the initial announcement of Lynn’s decision to take a break from CW.  Like the rest of you, I was both surprised (who saw that one coming?) and saddened by the news.  However, recognizing that she knows herself better than anyone, I understand her decision, and appreciate how difficult it must have been for her to make.  That said, I feel the need to recount some fond memories of the delightful Lynn to lessen the blow.

I first saw Lynn with CW at Radio City in March 2008 during the beginning of the last leg of the ANJ Tour.  My initial thoughts seeing her perform were that she had a fantastic voice, but seemed a little timid.  I now know that she’s a somewhat reserved person with a wonderful sense of humor that she uses to great effect.  For example, her bantering with Ray and Nicky about being seaweed at the beginning of Dulaman, telling the audience that she had to Google how to wish us a “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” in Gaelic during the Concert at the Patriots Center, and telling us about channeling Joni Mitchell at Woodstock and being born in the wrong decade during the Bethel Woods Concert demonstrate what a witty Lady she is.

As far as music goes, in addition to being beautiful and very powerful (just listen to her hit the last note of Carol of the Bells on the Whitehouse Christmas Tree lighting video), Lynn's voice is quite ethereal on some songs – her version of My Lagan Love is simply haunting.  On others, she blends perfectly with the other Ladies – her performances of Songs From The Heart with all the Ladies during the SFTH Tour, My Heart Was Home Again with Lisa during the 2nd leg of the SFTH Tour, Pie Jesu with Chloe on the SFTH DVD, and Good Night My Angel with Lisa and Chloe on the SFTH DVD are spectacular.  Lastly, Lynn’s lovely combination of fun and song on Carolina Rua (I saw it during the IOH Tour and on Youtube), and joining the Ladies on At The Cieli and Nil Sen La could melt even the coldest heart.  I only wish that CW Ltd. had acquiesced to my several requests, and allowed her to perform Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now.

Another thing I’ve grown to admire about Lynn is her passion about her beliefs, and her free spiritedness.  Being one who grew up during the 1960s, I believe Lynn would have fit right in during that tumultuous, but wonderful, decade.  

And so, I end this missive with a heart felt “Thank You” to Lynn for all she has given us over the past 3 years, and my sincere wishes to her for peace and continued success in all her future endeavors.    

I'm seeing the girls again in April, and I still can't believe Lynn won't be there!!  I'm gonna miss her solos, and her quiet, beautiful presence on stage.... *sigh*
