I read in an article that they're performing YRMU and OF, I don't want to spread rumours but it may have been an error on the authors part.

I just hope they keep The Parting Glass as the show closer. That's the best!

I'm fairly sure that's true... it was in the Celtic Woman newsletter.

I don't want to start any arguments or anything, but I'm honestly not a fan of this new setlist.... It just doesn't seem like Believe....
I'm seeing them in the middle of April, so I may have a different opinion then... but right now... not a fan... :(

I'm not a fan of the setlist either. Same as Sarah, It just isn't Believe to me. :(
I see a few Lisa K songs in there. I think whoever will sing them will do a great job, but not as good as Lisa K. ;)

Now I REALLY wish I was going to a show this year!  OMG I'm so happy they brought back some oldies!  And I'm assuming Susan sings Caledonia and The Voice and Lisa L sings She Moved Through the Fair!  Or Chloe?  OMG I SO WISH I WAS GOING!  Hopefully some knucklehead will video them.

While I will agree that it seems like quite a departure from Believe, this actually makes me really really excited. It seems like they took a bunch of the favorites from each CW special/concert and put together a diverse setlist. Actually these songs are all my favorites, and as much as I love Believe, I am so excited that I will get to see some of the performances that I thought I would never get to see. As this will be my first concert, I am lucky that I will not have Lisa K's performances to compare to. I am more excited than I ever thought I would be to see a concert.

Please guys, keep an open mind. It might just blow you away

It's  true that this list is not exactly "Believe" ......  in , fact , it looks like a  dukes mixture of every tour.   but then again-  IOH  was not exactly  SFTH  or  ANJ  either. But was good on its own merits.  I am almost thinking that this could be a possible warmup to a  10-year  anniversary show- who knows.   There are a lot of goodies on this one including some of my very fave Mairead pieces. I for one respectfully disagree with  some of the previous thoughts.  I remain excited for what our special Celtic Cuties have in store for us. and i remain pumped for my first row and M@G  action.  Just an observation... no tour has been exactly the same as the year before. I think this is actually a smart  tactic.  David D. always finds  a few twists to make each production unique,  Fear not all... I understand what everyone's  saying but I just see it a different way.    :)

I have to say, that is the one thing that bothers me along with Caledonia.  IMO, no one will ever top Lisa's performance of those songs.  I would never disparage whichever girl ends up singing it, but no one can ever truly replace Lisa.

Let me make a couple more points, and then I will shut my mouth (I'm sure some of you are sitting here going "Oh, no here she goes again").

Yes, some of the songs on the tour are ones we are most familiar with because of Lisa Kelly. It will be sad and perhaps a bit disconcerting for us to hear them performed by someone other than Lisa. But keeping an open mind is important. All of the current members of CW are there for a reason. They are some of the best performers in Ireland, in their own right. It is perfectly fine to miss Lisa Kelly (I sure do) but to sit and say "Well I don't think I will like it because its being done by someone other than Lisa" does whatever performer has taken over that number a tremendous disservice. I'm sure they realize, as does David, that expectations will be high.

David knows the girls tremendously well, and has likely specifically chosen this set list to suit their strengths. I have a feeling we will see Susan come into her own over the course of this tour, now that she hasn't had set lists tailored for a different purpose and person just thrown at her. I definitely look forward to it. I also don't think Lisa would have wanted any of the songs she performed to be retired, and would be honored to know that others will step up and keep the music that she helped us all fall in love with alive.

Remember also that its called the music INDUSTRY for a reason. They need, at the end of the day, to make money. Doing a best of tour like this is a great way to make newer material memorable, but also pull in newer fans who may have seen and fallen in love with the earlier concerts. Again, its like a crash course in CW. They will actually most likely now see a spike in DVD and CD sales which contain songs featured on this tour, something that will aid them financially and keep them making beautiful music for a long time to come.

I know people are a bit upset, or perhaps just unsure. It is our first tour without Lisa Kelly. But I see it as a win win situation. CW will profit, newer fans like myself get a little of everything, and for those of you who have been around the block, so to speak, you get to enjoy some nostalgia while old favorites are given new life.

Get excited... Spring 2013 tour has begun!

I kind of feel  the same way about "Dulaman"... to me, that will always be Meav's.

Much as I miss Lisa Kelly, I'm sure Susan will do a phenomenal job on her solos. And I'm SO excited for The Voice! Never saw CW when that song was in the setlist!

I became a Celtic Woman fan in late 2006 but didn't go to my first concert until 2009. When I went to that first concert, I was VERY VERY pleasantly surprised to hear several of my old favorites as well as newer material. It was terrific.
Yes there are a couple old Lisa K songs on the playlist (and a couple old Meav songs as well). And I'll add that Lisa K was, is, and probably always will be my favorite member of Celtic Woman. HOWEVER........I have no doubt whatsoever that whoever does them will be FANTASTIC.

I don't think anyone is going to diss the girls for singing any song that was previously sung by Lisa, Meav, Orla, etc.

For me, Lisa singing "The Voice" is why I am a fan of CW.  I just can't see anyone else doing those songs, but as I said earlier, I would never disparage whoever ends up signing it.

I completely agree with EVERYTHING you have said in this thread.  I keep an open mind when it comes to CW.  I miss Lisa K just as much as everyone else, but I really don't think that assuming the songs won't be as good is fair to Susan.  And remember, Alex Sharpe performed Lisa's solos a few years back, and did an awesome job (I saw a video of her singing The Voice).  And remember how amazing Lisa Lambe, Hayley and Lynn were with Dulaman.  I am honestly so sad I won't be going to see any shows this year (the closest one is too far(, because I know this will be an AMAZING tour.  And I think Susan will sing Lisa K's songs perfectly.  Remember how well she did Lisa K's songs in the Symphony Tour?  I saw the video of Green the Whole Year Round.  That was AWESOME!  And don't forget how well she did Follow On and The Water Is Wide!  I really miss Lisa K so badly, but David, in my opinion, NEVER makes mistakes when it comes to CW.  He wouldn't have picked Susan if he didn't think she was good enough.  Nobody can ever replace Lisa, but Susan is just as good, and she brings her own special flavor to the group.
And I seem to remember a lot of posts on here from people wanting to hear the older songs again.  Well you finally get the chance, so why not enjoy it?  Yeah, they'll sound different with Lisa L and Susan, but knowing CW, they'll still sound amazing!
For me, I am never disappointed with CW.  This is coming from someone who has had a LOT of disappointments in her life.  CW is one of the few things that just can't disappoint me.  It's because I don't have all these expectations for them.  I don't worry about it.  I just enjoy it, and I'm always excited to see what they will do next.  They've never let me down, and they never will.
Like I said, I miss Lisa K very much, and everyone has a right to, but I honestly think people need to keep an open mind, and give things a chance before expressing disappointment.  Wait and see first!

Thanks for posting that! Hmmm... Definitely interesting! And I do in a way like it! Def brings back some of the original songs  which could be leading up to something! And like that they thinned out SOME of the believe songs! Just the fox hunter and heart was home again not being their is sad :( and yes I love the voice! Lisas version hooked me into cw! And Alex did a good job w it to! So I think I will leave it arhat and leave the rest as a suprise in April! It's close enough now that I prob won't read and more reviews etc! Sounds good! Def a fan of their older style wasn't a total fanatic about the regular believe list/ taping just bits and pieces! So sorry!  Sounds good though!

Didn't they start to bring in some "new songs" during the second year of each tour anyways?  I'm thinking that they brought in songs for Isle of Hope. Songs that were more suited to the girls in the group at that time, BEFORE they recorded Songs from the Heart.  I think David will present some special Susan songs in this years tour and gradually take away some of our "Maev, Orla, Lisa K, Alex, Lynn or Hayley" songs.  Then, by the end of this year, plans should be underway for another DVD/CD/PBS bombuster EVENT.  Maybe this time, David can win the award????

From what I gather in some reviews on the Máiréad-forum, She Moved Thru The Fair sounds much like the version Méav did. The choir starts, Chloë begins and Lisa joins in later. Very curious to hear it.

Bridge over Troubled Water appears to be much different than the dvd-version. No choir, just Lisa with the piano. In one review it's said that the melody is very different too.
Bridge isn't a favorite of mine, but I might like this change.

Very happy to see so many Irish songs back on the setlist

I agree, and in fact changing the dynamic and feel of the show back to a more distinctly Irish flavor is, I think, one of the reasons the changes were implemented. If you look at the reviews for the Believe DVD on sites like Amazon, they had (have?) a more negative flavor than reviews for other CW material. The overwhelming sentiment was that CW had strayed too far from its Irish roots, and were now simply trying to please the American public. Celtic Thunder has also been subject to similar criticism with their "It's Entertainment" show/album. I can almost guarantee that this type of feedback was one major reason for the set list change.

Certainly theatre isn't the same, and I've never acted professionally, but I've been a part of community theatre productions all my life. Often, the run of the show spans several performances, over a period of days or weeks. But if someone were to go to a show opening night and come back for a performance later in the run, they would have completely different experiences between the two shows. That's because even when a show is being performed, it is still changing and evolving. While technically it is ideal for the show to be "set in stone" before opening night, that NEVER happens, Why? Its live. Usually the director is present at shows to gauge audience reaction during the show, and sometimes meets with audience members during things like meet and greets to hear what they thought. Press reviews become important sources of feedback as well, particularly in the professional world.

So what gets done with all that feedback? It is given to the performers as "notes." What went well, what didn't, things to remember, improv bits to keep as a permanent part of the show, which ones to throw out all together. Forum members who see multiple shows per tour can probably attest to the fact that the shows are never completely robotic, always different and organic in little subtle ways. This is part of why.

David has taken the feedback given via the internet, the public and the press and created a set list to try to satisfy those who were unhappy, keep longtime listeners engaged, and ensnare new fans in the mesmerizing spectacle that is CW. Its a big risk to take, but as I said, David knows the girls well, and he's done this a long time. Let's give the guy credit.

You make a lot of sense , Misha.   I was thinking along these lines too.  Although "Believe" had a number of Celtic tunes ,  there were also a number of non-Celtic as well.  I have enjoyed both, of course.  And in  SFTH - "Fields Of Gold"   and  " Goodnight My Angel" being among my fave pop covers, but by and large, the Irish melodies have mostly been my favorites.   My only personal "contraindication"  is that I will have to force myself to keep an open mind  concerning "She Moved  Thro' The Fair"  and "Dulaman" which  I previously have considered "Meav" songs.   I know the current gals will do a fine job-  I'm just stating  a personal bias that I'm fully aware of.  Truth be told...my Celtic Cuties have never disappointed me.   :)

My apologies for the double post but I want to bring this thread back on topic and also the forum keeps crashing if I try to modify my post.

I have to also say that I love the balance of slow and fast songs that has been achieved with this setlist. I'm happy that they didn't sacrifice Parting Glass for YRMU, TAR for Nil S'en La, or Granuaile's Dance for Shenandoah or Coast of Galacia. Also very pleased that Awakening  and Nocturne are still on the set list. They provide a nice contrast to each other and I love them both. Speaking of balance and contrast. Did you notice that each act has 1 instrumental solo? (The New Ground in act 1, and the bodhran solo in Act 2). It's a nice change of pace and gives us a chance to fully appreciate the beauty of two more Irish instruments besides fiddle.

I find it interesting that at least the way it looks right now, neither Mairead solo from Believe is on the setlist. All her solos are older pieces. I'm a bit sad that we don't get green grow but I suppose it's a small sacrifice.

Ok, I love too many of these songs to miss this performance. I am going to try my hardest to get to this show.

For my first concert, I like the setlist. I'm thrilled that TAR and Nil S'en La will be performed! I was wondering why they had both Ceili dresses in a backstage picture! I'm pretty pleased with it! I can't wait until April 6th though!!!
yeah! ANd see you in CLEVELAND!!

:D!!

Am I crazy for putting these songs in setlist order in my iTunes to try to get an idea of what the show will feel like? And what journey the girls and David are trying to take us on?

James, have you seen Lil' Lambe sing Dulaman live?  She adds so much to it.  I love her movements, playing the spoons on Ray's shoulder, getting in Ewan's face and pulling his ear.

Actually I DID  see Lil' Lambe do  "Dulaman "  at the last spring concert in St. Paul.  She was very charming, of course. I can't restate enough  what a total sweetheart she is.  Very lovable.

Defiantely excited! The only thing I thought of is what would happen if they come to a city this tour that they didn't last and someone was waiting for them to come and liked all the songs on the cd dvd and expect that at the concert?? Especially since they cut some of the goood ones? Thank  goodness i pushed to go to radio city and saw the old set list their!  So I hope when they bought the tickets that they know that they changed it alittle or they wil find out soon enough!! I for one know I am getting excited!!  and it was just a thought!

There are songs I will miss too, but there are also songs I'm glad are making a comeback. From what I've heard, the older songs are getting new twists. David  D.  knows how to keep it fresh.       :)

Well, the set list sounds great to me!

I’ve been a fan of CW since watching their very first show on PBS, and while I’ve liked some of the TV shows and live shows better than others, I’ve greatly enjoyed them all.

I came to CW as a long-time lover of traditional Celtic music. While CW is not a "traditional" group, I’ve always liked it when they got closer to it. This set list makes it sound like the new show is more “Irish”, and that’s a plus for me.

There're still in the show according to the set list unless if you have read a new review saying that they have been dropped.

Sadly, there have been. One person mentioned it in their little review. So when someone else mentioned going to the concert, I asked if it had been dropped from their concert too and they replied it had.

Ya….. I’ve always thought that CW shows are too short!  :o

I’d like them to add another solo or duet for each performer, or maybe one more up-beat group song. With lots of other live performances I’ve attended, the performer(s) always take a break to interact with the fans with a story or joke. That would add about another 30 minutes or so. However, I guess going longer could be too tiring to the cast, and result in later work for the take-down crew.

nah!  I think they keep it to 2 hours with half hour intermission! just sad they took out some of the believe songs :( But the show ususally keeps to 2 hours! Now the blue man group concert I went to was thee shortest professional concert/show at a theatre I have ever been to!  It was and hour and a hlaf/fourty five minutes ish! With no intermission! And most of the begginig at least 20 minutes of a scrolling banner and then about a full hour of them playing (not full) and then a twenty minute ending! But I think the girls concertts are just right!

Okay! Its decided! I won't watch any tour videos! Except for the ones from CW themselves and the St. Paddy's Day ones. Those are okay! But I REALLY wanna be surprised!

I just saw the girls last night in Shippensburg......I first fell in love with them in the SLANE Castle show..... I've told people that was CW at their best..... by the looks of things, half the songs on this BELIEVE show are from that show, proving me right...
