Title: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: OldFatGuy on April 14, 2007, 01:13PM Directions for posting pictures on the forum or in Private Messages (PMs):
1. Sign up for a free account with a web-based photo sharing service (e.g. http://www.fotki.com/us/ (http://www.fotki.com/us/), http://photobucket.com/ (http://photobucket.com/), etc.) 2. Upload your photo(s)/image(s) to your new account. 3. Select the photo or image that you want to post. 4. Copy the entire web address for that image. 5. In your forum post or PM, insert the following line: [img]http://address.you.copied.in.step.4[/img] 6. Click on the Preview button, and your image should show up, like this: (http://www.ropescorner.com/smileys/22304.gif) 7. If it shows up okay, click the "Post" button. Directions for posting avatars or banners in your profile. 1. Follow steps 1 through 4, above. 2. In the forum, go into your personal profile. 3. Click the "Look and Layout Preferences" link. 4. If you want to use a custom avatar, simply select the "I have my own pic" option and paste the entire web address of your image into the space provided. (Note: the default size for avatars in this forum is 80 x 80 pixels. Larger graphics will be resized automatically. A 100 x 100 image will work fine, but if the original is too large you will lose a lot of resolution in resizing it. Also, images that are not square will be distorted.) 5. If you want to add a banner, scroll down to the "Signature" field and paste in the appropriate code as in step 5 above. Remember to remove the asterisks! You can also add text above or below the banner, formatted as you would in any post. 6. Click the "Change Profile" button and you're done. Your avatar and/or banner will appear in all your posts, including the ones you posted in the past. That's all there is to it! Have fun. There was talk about a site being created for tags/banners/avatars, I was asked at one point about contributing. That's what I was asking about, was there a site so that people can see the pic, then they have to upload and store it themselves before using? In photobucket, if you look at your picture of Máiréad you'll see a bunch of boxes labeled Email & IM, Direct Link, HTML Code, and IMG Code. You need to copy what's in the Direct Link box and paste that into the spot for your avatar in your profile. aislin Title: Re: Help with avatars and banners Post by: jeetaa6 on November 12, 2007, 10:28AM aislin....ok. i understand now. again, thanks for the help.

Title: Re: Help with avatars and banners Post by: Bluefire on December 09, 2009, 11:11PM FAIL. Anyone know what I've done wrong?! I did the whole URL thing with the (http://) stuff...im not too tech savvy! lol It depends on where you're putting the image. If you are putting up a profile pic (for example, where I have a blue tiger icon), you just need the http address... for example, http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t53/CirqueBluefire/Bluefire.jpg ... to be put in your Forum Profile Information, in the top section. If you are putting an image into a post, or setting up an image as a banner, you need the http address and the IMG tags, like so: Code: [IMG]http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t53/CirqueBluefire/Bluefire.jpg[/IMG] Post that exact code (opening tag, http address, and closing tag) in your post. If you are putting up a banner, put that exact code in your Forum Profile Information, in the section marked "Signature".Hopefully that helps. would like to find out if word art or a drawing is acceptable for using as avatar? Magic~5 Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: OldFatGuy on September 17, 2010, 04:29AM would like to find out if word art or a drawing is acceptable for using as avatar? Sure. Just be aware that the default size is 80 x 80 px, and the forum will automatically resize the image. And the graphic should be square, or it will be distorted. An image that actually looks like this:(http://lisakellyfan.com/smileys/arg-dancing-irish-green-on-black-url.gif) will come out looking like this: (http://lisakellyfan.com/smileys/arg-dancing-irish-green-on-black-url.gif) Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: RoAR on January 02, 2011, 09:32PM Just testing my new banner. Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: randy4sam on August 05, 2011, 11:05AM I have tried, unsuccessfully, numerous times to include a photo in a post. I went to fotki, uploaded my photos to an album,
copied the URL and entered it between the (http://) in the post. Nothing. Here is a typical URL from fotki: http://public.fotki.com/randy4sam/temp-cw/mosaic-8.html Any suggestions ? Thanks, Randy in Richmond Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: OldFatGuy on August 05, 2011, 01:27PM Here is a typical URL from fotki: http://public.fotki.com/randy4sam/temp-cw/mosaic-8.html That's not an image, it's an entire page. You can tell by the "html" file extension. The actual image is Quote http://images15.fotki.com/v235/photos/9/1577919/8766520/mosaic8-vi.jpg (http://images15.fotki.com/v235/photos/9/1577919/8766520/mosaic8-vi.jpg) Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: RoAR on November 07, 2011, 05:10PM Can anyone else see my avatar? I thought I understood how to attach them, but now it seems that I'm just as clueless as ever!
Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: aislin on November 07, 2011, 10:22PM RoAR1497,
Apparently something was wrong on the server's end. The file where the avatars are saved wasn't writable which means you couldn't upload your image. (At least, assuming you were trying to upload the image to the forum and use it form there.) Try again and see if you have any better luck. Sorry about that! Looks like the server was having a bad day and decided to change it. *shrugs* aislin Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: RoAR on November 08, 2011, 09:38AM IT WORKED!!!!! It was ok this morning and I'm not sure if it's just me or if others are having the same problem?

Lindsay help!! :) Hey guys, For some odd reason, whatever caused the file permission to change caused another problem as well. In trying to fix It I made the problem worse. *sigh* Long story short, if you've been using a forum uploaded avatar you'll need to reupload it. I tried to restore from a backup, but because of how the forum stores stuff it was what made the problem worse and erased all the working avatars in the process. REALLY sorry I made it worse and I'll see if I can figure out what cased the problem in the first place... but it honestly could have just been a random server error or a corrupted something in the file itself. aislin Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: LISAFAN4EVER on November 10, 2011, 05:54AM Sorry Rachael. I thought you were trying to upload something for the first time -- I can be slow sometimes! :D
Thanks guys. :) Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: mattycakes on September 05, 2012, 08:24AM Hey! What's an acceptable size for a banner in the signature? I don't want it to be too huge!

I don't want it to be too huge! Go to Forum Guidelines. http://www.celticwomanforum.com/index.php?topic=7092.0 (http://www.celticwomanforum.com/index.php?topic=7092.0) Check out item #2 Signatures. There it explains the maximum size for banners/signatures. Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: AggieGuy on March 15, 2014, 11:51PM So I tried uploading an avatar but the forum doesn't seem to like Fotki. help!!!! It might be too big (file size) for the forum to accept. You might try uploading it to a file hosting site and using that option instead. I'm seeing an avatar so did you get it or are you trying to upload a different avatar? aislin I meant banner. My bad Ah, gotcha. I don't use Fotki but this is what I got from poking at it: If you're looking at the picture you want to use you should see a share button up above. Click on it then on the link below Image URL for use on other sites. This copies the location of the photo to your computer's clipboard. Then come back to the forum and click on Profile up top, then on Forum Profile Information on the left. In the signature box put the image tags [img] [/img] and past the copied address between them. Hit change profile down at the bottom and you should be good to go. If that doesn't work, could you post a link to the photo you are trying to use so I can see if I can puzzle out what the problem is? aislin Title: Re: Help with posting graphics, avatars and banners Post by: The Impatient New Yorker on March 17, 2014, 08:27AM So I tried uploading an avatar but the forum doesn't seem to like Fotki. help!!!!
