In her solo work, Orla prefers simple arrangements and singing in Gaelic. “I think things sound better in Gaelic than they do in English. It’s a glorious, spiritual language.” And she writes her instrumental music on the harp. “I’ve tried it on the piano and it just doesn’t work for me,” she laughs. “Writing songs has to come naturally. I love the outdoors and gardening and I think of some of my lyrics when I’m outside walking.  I’m a bit of a dreamer and am always daydreaming and songs most often come to me that way but melodies come when I’m sitting at the harp.”

Having fulfilled so many of her dreams, Orla has her sights set on winning a Grammy award someday.  Moreover, she’s learned that “someday” is actually attainable. “When I was 16 and left school, I entered the Knockananna talent competition,” she remembers, “I could only play one song on the harp but I won.  There was great excitement and people were saying to me “someday you’ll go to America and play in Carnegie Hall but I never really thought that someday would come. And now it has.”

Wait a second...........A Grammy?I can picture them winning numerous Grammy awards,not just 1!

I agree there should ne nomination. Yet they are happy doing what they do. That is rewarding itself ;D  And Gaelic is a beautiful language ;)

Let's make her a Grammy ;D

Since the birth of our first grandchild, my wife wants to be called grammy! ;D

and so she should ;)

Here is a suggestion it have a "grammy" or award made from a trophy/ plauqe store but made from the fans and sent to her. Sent to the record company or to the address on here web site.

It would be refreshing to see any or all of Celtic Woman at the grammys. It would be the first person with any class in a long while. Frankly, I think a grammy is beneath Orla and all the rest. I like the idea of awards from the forum. It might mean more to them anyway.

I don't watch or care for the Grammys. Especially when name Jethro Tull best Heavy Metal bamd!!!!???? There so much talent there and of couse personal taste.  The awards is making you happy and the fans!

I'm very disappointed in the last Grammy nominatations not one song performed by CW was selcted while songs that would have been rejected by CW were. Our Celtic song birds have soooooooo much talent. The judges at the Grammys must be deaf as well as dumb. Orla definitely desevves a Grammy as do they all.

Grammy's are a joke !!!!  Serilously cuase there alot good bands that don't get radio play which is good. Than the songs don't get overed played. And the real award is the people buying the albums and and going to the shows.

Just how does a performer get nominated for a Grammy. Does it depend upon talent, sales numbers, knowing the right people or in other words politics??? When I checked out the Grammy nominations a few months ago there must have been over 60 categories and CW wasn't in one of them. How can you ignore a group thaty was number one in Billboard for over a year???

It is people who work in the music buisness and related to it.

Kinda like the Academy Awards then??? Well if they ignore reall talent like CW then they must be deaf as well a dumb in my book.

Answer.......They are too clean cut, honest, sweet, talented, and Christian for the grammys to give them the time of day. The fact they have a Christian category not withstanding. The raunchier the better with such awards and shows. If they aren't gyrating and half dressed it doesn't stimulate them or their primary audience. as you can tell I'm no far of such awards shows. Orla, you and the other ladies deserve far better, and I pray that none of you will give in to the pop culture pressure to be a..........well, better not.

IMHO, the Grammys have reallyy gone down hill in the past several years. I have seen performers nominated who I feel have no talent whatsoever and even less class.  But the music industry hypes these no talent performers as though they have musical ability. I feel that the music of CW will stand the teat of time. Their music is classic.

Moscapoe,  I am betting they are born in "Catholic" Religion which is the main group in Ireland. And there people there not religious too. But for the Grammys there is a "Christian" or religious catagory.  It dosen't get brodcast for tv. There are alot of different catagories that would be to long for the time alllowed and no intrests.

Oh I know. I wish they would show the Christian awards.

I wonder if they could be nominated for the Dove awards? At least I think that's what the Christian music awards are called.

With all of the awards shows, with the exception of the Country Music Awards, losing more viewers  each year, having CW on the show and nominated would draw the Public Broadcasting fans.   Not only PBS fans but all of us die hard CW fans would be tuning in.    Can you just hear Chloe and Orlagh reading the nominations.   What a dream.

Enya, Clannad, and the Chieftains have all won Grammys, so I don't see why Celtic Woman couldn't do it.  I would absolutely love to have them win a Grammy - perhaps the World category?

Unfortunately this once beautiful and gifted country has lost itself in the lowest common denominator of crassness,ugliness,and hatefulness when it comes to women,the unborn,and "lower income."This country,once born of True Freedom for all people has lowered itself to one of the most self-centered,instant gratification,"me first,you last" societies the world has ever known! When I began teaching,41 years ago,Parents,children and teachers looked out for each other first,making sure that we were truly, "our brothers keeper". Since then we,as a country have changed,for the worst,to "looking out for number one(me)!"Fortunately there are are some (CW) to show us the way,how to truly care for one another.Let us try to do the same for each other in this country before it is too late! There are many I've met throughout this forum,and in person who would "do unto others as they would have done unto them." I trust all in this forum believe in the same,and would do the same. If you do believe,you can change this country,and the world!!  Mc

McIrish, as I've posted previously in this thread, you are right. CW and parts thereof are so far above the grammys that frankly to get one would be an insult. I know there is a lot of prestige attached to it but it has lost its luster in the moral abyss we've sunk into here in the states. You are also right that this forum contains within it very many truly marvelous and giving people. such is the nature of what Orlagh and all the others in this fine ensemble bring out in people. They are the best at what they do and bring that out in their fans and friends. They are a gift from God like no other and inspire both lyrics and prayer in me daily. Grammy?  :P :P :P. You deserve far better Orlagh as do the rest of Celtic Woman.

What is the importance and relevance of the Grammys these days anyway? More importantly, who watches these award shows, including the Oscars? I have better time spent than watching a bunch of overpaid, underweight, no-talent, publicity-hounding pop stars patting each other on the back telling each other how great they are and how gorgeous they look in that gown. The Grammys is a popularity contest and a method of hyping and pushing record sales than recognizing the actual talent and artistic merits of the music. Load of rubbish, this current state of the music industry.

Even if Orlagh would never win that Grammy, it won't make her any less worthy or respected. She won't lose anything but her wonderful unadulterated talent and the many fans that brought her to her music in the first place.

I agree 1000%.   True Class wins out in the end.  Oralgh is a lady with True Class.   She and all of the other ladies are head and shoulders above the rest.

Well no matter what all of the girls deserve some kind of an award for all there hard work that they have done to share there wonderful music with us. I am going to make up an award for them called the "Thankyou award" And CW will be the first to recieve it!

I got "awards" planned too. I sent one to Ray though coming back cuz didn't know custom charges need to be collected at receipent location. So going to resend it when I get back end of next month.

Really what kind of award was it?

All I am going to say it has music theme. It will be re-sent.

Orla won't be able to win a Grammy this year but could still go to the ceremony in February to support Hayley Westenra. She is nominated in the musical category for the recording of West Side Story. Fingers crossed for Hayley!

As to the larger problem... Here is an impossible solution to the many fine musical artist not recognized by the Grammys.

I recently read a Book of Lists listing of famous performers who have never won a Grammy. The three I remember are Bing Crosby, the Beach Boys, and the Rolling Stones. The rest of the list were equally famous.     Good company

Just from those three it appears that the grammy has nothing to do with talent. Orla and all others in CW your award rests in our hearts. We love you.
