Title: CELTIC WOMAN DESTINY SA
Post by: Tahnee on June 14, 2016, 05:57AM
So everyone who knows me on Facebook and Twitter, know that I am a huge Celtic Woman fan and 5 years ago Celtic Woman came to South Africa for Believe and they are back this year and I seriously can not wait...... Can anyone give me some advice for the meet and greets? I didn't get a chance last time to meet Susan and Mairead Nesbitt but this year I want to make it even more special. Has anyone taken the booklets from the inside of the DVD's to be signed?

Here's an article that talks about the Destiny Tour coming to South Africa:

I've never been to a meet and greet (yet) so I'm interested in the answer too.

At the US M&G, you don't get autographs.  You get a quick hi & handshake and a photo op with all 4 girls.

Hey dbbii, thanks for the information.

How recent is that? I'm curious because the definition of a meet and greet has changed a number of times over the years.

Thanks.

I think the Believe meet & greets was the last time they did autographs.

This looks odd.  Is there something we don't know?

U OAH!== Where is our Mairead Nesbitt?

Is she just passing a rest by on the South Africa tour.. ?

Is this a call to Mairead's time with us coming to a close. 'O'

First I thought Rebecca was joining then I saw she looked similar to Lil' Lisa Lambe.

Does anybody on the Forum live in South Africa? I'm curious to see how Tara fits in?

Cool! Yeah, would love to know all about Tara, the crowd reaction, everything.

Hey, did you know Tara has her own forum too?
http://www.taramcneillforum.com

It's a great place to meet and chat with other Tara fans. The more the merrier.  ;)

I'm just very curious about how she'll perform. Not necessarily group numbers cuz those songs are a bit about the interactions between the girls. More so her solo songs. I wonder if she'll have the same energy as Mairead. I also wonder if she'll even have the same solos! Or perhaps she might do a bit of singing. And I'm also curious about her costumes. Mairead's were designed with her constant movements in mind. Don't know if Tara will do the same. Also, with all due respect to Tara, Mairead was a very small, petite woman. I don't think Tara could use her costumes.

Yeah, Synan will make her something new and beautiful, I imagine.

I prefer not to compare Tara to Mairead. Tara has her own style and I'm sure I'll love it. I'm a bit worried about how the rest of the audience will react (the part of audience that's knowledgable about Mairead but not CWazy enough to embrace a new style).

Her singing in group numbers I'm really curious about. I fully trust Meav and and Gavin though. They'll do whatever works best.

I'm also trying not to compare but it's tough considering how long we've seen Mairead. For many, myself included, she was the poster child for Celtic Woman.

I've no doubt that Tara is a fantastic musician. But in Celtic Woman's shows, and particularly in a show like Destiny where the fun songs are Mairead's, we need to see someone who's energetic and who can really get the audience to play along with the girls.

Older shows had some fast-paced (the original TAR, Nil, and At The Ceiling) or well-known songs (Circle Of Life) which appealed to the wider audience. Destiny has When You Go (the opening), Bean Phaidin, the violin solos, and TAR as the only fast songs. Two of those songs are primarily in Irish. Unless they change the setlist a bit or Tara is able to totally wow in unexpected ways, I worry how this show is going to compare.

So! Any info on South Africa and Tara? I'm just curious as to the setlist and whether or not Tara will sing or play harp!

Tara's dresses are lovely! One is purple, the other one blue, and they are a bit "fluffier" yet less elaborate than those of the other girls.

Tara didn't sing or play the harp. She fit in well with the group  and was truly amazing. Because we only had an hour and a 15 minutes of the show but it was amazing.

Tara opened with Terloc's Dream and the show ended with You Raise Me Up. Tier Abaile Riu was the last song and I was blown away the whole show. The band boys did their song and after that my hands hurt from all the clapping that I did.

The songs were as much I can remember is - When You Go, Danny Boy, Siuil A Rùn, Ride On, Amazing Grace, Skyrim, The Hills of Ireland - started off with The Rocky Road to Dublin, Walk Beside Me, The Whole of the Moon, Nella Fantasia, My Land, You Raise Me Up.

I sang along to all the songs. I loved the show and they will definately be back and I am really hoping next year. My best friend got to meet all the girls and says that Tara is lovely. She loves Susan more but me, I love all the girls. As per our tradition, she brought her Irish flag and it got signed and Susan gave her the pen that they used.

I hope they will have videos of Tara's solos so I can see how she performed them.

As far as I remember the new members always took over the parts of the girls they filled in for during the tour. They always got their own songs/lines in the programm for the next tours. So I hope she'll be playing the harp and will be singing in the upcoming CD/DVD/tour

I got that, Tiffany. I just meant that the fact she diesn't sing or play the harp in the current Destiny show doesn't mean, she won't do that in an upcoming, brand new show.

I'd like to see videos of her as well :)

I know that, but that's not what I'm talking about. I mean I want to see how she performs the solos, like does she dance and leap and spin?

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but are you saying that this show was like a condensed version? As in there wasn't two separate acts like usual?

What is "Across the World" and "My Name Is Ray/3's a Crowd?"

What is "Across the World" and "My Name Is Ray/3's a Crowd?"

Good question.

I've seen "My Name Is Ray/3's a Crowd" in a set list before, but I haven't found a video. Best I have at the moment is a picture:

If anyone knows of a video clip of that, please share  ;)

"Across the World" I also don't have a video of and it's the first I've heard of it. I don't think it's one of the Anuna songs. I suppose it could be a song from her upcoming solo album or a cover of something that would be particularly meaningful locally. I Tweeted Tara about it, but if anyone has a clip (or was at one of the three South Africa shows etc) that would be great!

Tara says "Across the World" is one of her brand new violin solos.  :D

Mattycakes: Correct me if I'm mistaken, but are you saying that this show was like a condensed version? As in there wasn't two separate acts like usual?
Yes Mattycakes, the show was an hour and 15 minutes because they had an opening act called the 'Mzanzi Youth Choir', if you go onto Facebook and check out the Celtic Woman Tour page, you will see the girls with the choir. I don't really know what Mzanzi means because it is not something that I particularly learnt or will learn because it just doesn't interest me but you can go onto google and check it out.

Look, the Youth Choir was amazing but I can't really say much about an opening act because I don't really like things like that. I sat through it, sang a long to the songs that I know - I am talking South African (I understand Afrikaans and not the other languages that we have here) but it was enjoyable. They opened with 'The Circle of Life' which listening to the song, I couldn't help but think of Li'l Lambe when she sang it in Believe, although her version was a little short, I will always think of the song as hers. I think that Celtic Woman was approached and asked if they would allow the choir to sing before them because the choir director thanked them twice when he was introducing the songs. They were on for a total of 30 minutes and sang about 5 songs.

When the girls go back to touring the way they toured in America, they will go back to a full show and not the show that we had but even a condensed show the way we had it was great and I am not really complaining about it because there is a reason behind why they did what they did. I also seem to think that when they come to South Africa some time in the future, they probably will not have an opening act - I could be mistaken.
