Title: Méav High Notes
Post by: AmeavinRaven on January 03, 2008, 06:38PM
As we all know, Meav is quite the soprano.  ;)

What is the highest/favorite high note she hits?

Some Méav high notes:
-Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (end; dizzyingly high and clear!)
-Carol of the Bells (end; LOVE LOVE LOVE the high "ding dongs" she does...I always turn the sound up really loud on that part...I'm probably busting my eardrums, but what a good way to lose them!)  ;))
-Celtic Prayer
-At the Ceili (when she'd rather have a man for love)
-Danny Boy
-She Moved Thru the Fair
-Silent Night

etc...

Wow. What a great Topic to start!

My favorites would be:

Most definately the end of Jesu Joy of Desiring... Just wow.

As well as her *ding dOng* lovess it!

And At the Ceili... there should be a warning sign on all of these.." Folks, Do not try this at home" :D

HAHAHAHAHA!! True Lauren.  I also think "Silent Night" should be added to the list as well.  She sings it so well and effortlessly and a lot higher than I would even think of trying.

-Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (end; dizzyingly high and clear!)

Until I heard Meav sing that note, I was certain only the violin could get that high!  She is amazing.

I think that the high note on 'Jesu, Joy..." is at least a "G" or an "A."

Actually I think it's a B :o
Might be an A.  I'll have to try to figure that one out.
For sure, though, it's at least one ledger line above the staff. :o ;D

YES...THAT'S IT!! I don't remember the words, but O Holy Night, near the end, her voice is unbelievable..like major goose bumps every time I hear it...what a beautiful sound she makes over the choir ;D Or in person, for that matter!

edit...I think it's 'o night, devine' with the last half of devine heavenly bound.. :D

I love her high notes on everything mentioned.  She is amazing, oh wait...ameaving!

My favorite, though, has to be "Solveig's Song" on her debut CD.  Wow!   :o

I get a D for spelling. And memory. First, it's spelled 'divine', not devine, and the high note is just before Méav sings 'O night divine'...looking up the lyrics, it must be 'o Holy night'. Best part is doing homework...I listened to the Christmas Celebration again this mornig. (I can't see how I'd ever get tired of listening to her sing...got goosebumps again!!) ;D

I've listened closely, and to everyone's surprise, it's Lisa that goes high at the end as she sings the melody in the chorus.  If you listen real closely at the Slane version, it's Lisa that goes high.  It's tough to hear on the Christmas DVD because of the enormous choir singing.

Also, Meav does that one Gloria high towards the end of Ding Dong Merrily on High.

Here are some songs where Méav's high notes really stand out to me:

With CW:
- Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (the ending note!)
- The Soft Goodbye
- Carol of the Bells (those "ding dongs...")
- Ding Dong Merrily on High ("Gloria!")
- Oh, Come All Ye Faithful

Without CW:
- Celtic Prayer
- Dante's Prayer
- Down by the Sally Gardens

Got to say, when I first hear Celtic Prayer when I was about 14, I was really surprised that she hit the C on "do" of "our hearts do say." I'd never heard anyone sing that outside of opera. Beautiful.

And  many other  songs  on  her  various  CDs  demonstrate  her  upper  register  as  well.  Meav's  Celtic Journey "Danny Boy"  for  example and  her  Christmas  songs  on  the  2  holiday  DVDs.    :)
