no... right?  like theyve got a new show coming... what is this?  im assuming its a false story since i cant find any other story/article/pre-release for it, but thought it was interesting anyways (esp since they listed alex as being on the cd/dvd, even though shes only staying till, ya know, the lovely lisa comes back)

I don't see why someone would lie about something like this. Maybe they're releasing it in addition to a new CD/show. Or maybe the new show is the four new songs they mentioned and then the old favorites. Only time will tell.

Yes good find there on that link. I did not realize that a new dvd was coming. I thought it was only a cd. Makes sense I guess that they will play it for pledge drive. And if they continue with thier usual ways, PBS will announce the new tour for 09! I hope so anyway. Seems they come here every March. I hope they continue that. I plan to pounce on PBS and pledge as soon as any announcement is made to get a great concert seat again.

Is there a concert that looks the same?

    Maybe the release will be in conjunction with the announcement of a 2009 US tour which PBS will be promoting later this year...good news indeed!  :)

I'm confused too!  But excited!  Are they filming a new DVD with all these songs on it?  Well, I look forward to more details.  (Oh, and I wonder if "The Call" means the one from Narnia?  If so, I'm going to be VERY excited!!!)

Now, considering that I have never seen the girls in any of those outfits before in a publicity photo, and that it does mention Alex and Lynn but not Méav.... I'm not entirely sure what to think.

Just to add to Rich what said, that there is the whole sale price from Celtic Collections and thier distributor and a set retail price to other disbutors to their customers and mark up it for a little profit. That is simple version. ;)
Now the retailers buy from them. But of course changes over the years with downloads.

See, that's what confused me.  It says highlights, but does that mean a totally new performance, or a jumble of previously filmed ones?  That would exclude the new songs.  Oh well, all will be revealed it time, it's just up to me to be patient.

There are two (2) things I'm wondering about:

1. Will this be the new cover?

2. Will the DVD and CD be release together, or separately as usual?

Good question don't be shocked if seperate. Yet as the Chinese pressings of ANJ, CW and ACC are CD & DVD in one case with extra pics. But for USA Canada, and Europe too they release some or most now in the jewel case or digipack. But depends on the packaging an licesing agreements signed with the distributors.

Don't you just LOVE that picture of the girls?!  I do!  What a gorgeous picture of all the girls!! I especially like that picture of Lisa and the one of Lynn!  I can't wait for it to be released.  Especially the DVD.  It says it has some great behind the scenes features!  I wonder if the DVD is clips from the other DVDs on the familiar songs, or something new like scenery or something (kind of like Chloë's DVD) with the songs as the girls sing!  Totally can't wait!

The article implies that it's a compilation of past shows, with the addition of those few songs.   Then in addition to this we have the taping of a brand new show to look forward to!  I wonder if the picture has something to do with the new show (on another article about this Oct. release Méav also is mentioned), but Méav may still be in this DVD, at least if they use clips from the past shows.  I wonder if the two songs "Pie Jesu" and "The Call" are previews to the new show?  We'll just have to wait and see.  I have it on good authority that the details regarding this "best of . . . " CD/DVD will soon be posted on the CW website. ;)  So we will see what they tell us about it. ;D

Exciting Things Are Happening In The CW World Once Again . . . WOOO HOOOO!!! ;D

Forgive me for being the dissenting one here but doesn't it seem a little soon for a greatest hits CD? It's only been two albums after all! What's your thoughts?

Edit: yes i forgot the Christmas albums but I don't think many people count those as opposed to regular new albums since a lot of artists do those anyway.

I've got a sneaky suspicion that "The Call" (I really hope its the one from Narnia!) and "Pie Jesu" are new songs for the new show. And this DVD will be a compilation of the past 3 dvds. Who knows? The new songs could be filmed on the Euro tour! Or the whole dvd might be new. IDK lets hope CW Ltd. gives us information soon.

I sort of wonder that since they didn't tape the new show in time for the fund raising that if this is what PBS will air this fall for money donations.  Even if they had made the new show DVD in August it would be difficult to get it processed and air worthy by fund time. So this way they could show the highlights of all the shows and people would buy this DVD and pledge to PBS. Then they would have the new show for next summers  and falls  money drives.  We all are going to buy it and so will tons of others. It works!

It makes perfect sense to me that they would do something like this now.  The last three shows have been extremely popular throughout, so why not make a collection of favorites from them?  I also think it acts as a clincher as they prepare to launch an entirely new show in the near future.  It doesn't really surprise me in the least.  I'm certain it will be great!

The European tour is going to be the final ANJ show.  So it's possible that they might tape a new concert in January and then start touring it in February.

Yes I agree I doubt I will buy the full album. I just hope iTunes will have so I can purchase the 4 new songs it will have. Though I don't get it, since when was "Ave Maria" a new song? Must be a re-recording.

I thought maybe different  people would be singing the songs. Like Lynn doing Dulaman or maybe Alex doing The Voice, since in all the news reports she is listed. Who knows? "The Sky, The Dawn, and The Sun" may be an extended version like the one in the live shows. ;)

I have my own Greatest Hits. I just burned a CD of my fav songs, actually have 2, but need to redo one since I need to add Green the Whole Year round

I agree I may not want to full album but lately ITunes has not been kind and is making me want physical CDs again just so I don't get bad copies of songs off a download :(

    Very likely exactly what has happened, Cool2it!  It will work!   ;D

You have a point, BUT...

Remember that the 2 'regular' shows are really twice the length of 'normal' CDs / DVDs. So you really have the equivalent of 4, plus the Xmas makes 5. Then also remember that with so many members and solo efforts that could be sort of lumped in, sort of like how Stevie Nicks solo songs like Stand Back end up on Fleetwood Mac greatest hots CDs & DVDs. So iwe sort of have the equivalent of 6 CDs to draw from.

That's true if you look at it that way. Do we know though if they included past members or not maybe doing their renditions of songs? (but if they did that I'd hope they kept Lisa's version of say The Voice or May It Be... for me Lisa's the best for those songs)

I made several "Greatest Hits" cd's as well. Actually half of the songs on my 4 gig iPod Nano are CW playlists. That's only 14 different playlists with the same songs! :D ;D ;D

I'm excited about the new CD and DVD, even if most of it is taken from materials already recorded.  We'll still have a new program to look forward to some day....and we still have some big announcement coming!!!

Ok, haven't read all the posts yet, so if I repeat what someone else mentioned, just ignore me.


I see this as a way to appease us, since they HAD planned on recording an new DVD, and most likely a CD to go with it, but because of the postponement, I suspect they will wait till next year to do the new DVD, since they had planned on doing it in the U.S, and by the time they are finished with Europe, it's going to be too cold here, except in the South.. But hopefully for the Spring Tour, they will add any new songs, to the Spring show.

I can live with the Greastest DVD collection.

As for the DVD, sounds like maybe, for the most part, just highlights from the 3 previous DVD, but with Alex and Lynn involved, that would have to be some extra footage maybe from the live shows? Now that would be a Great DVD, with some songs having been taped live at some of the shows  :D

GTWYR I downloaded from iTunes, sounds great, least on my iPod.

I have GTWYR from Itunes on my IPod Shuffle also. I know there has to be snongs drom the DVDs that are not on the CDs, but now I can't remember what they are.

Ditto JR, I am gonna wait on peoples reviews on here before buying anything. Normally I would avoid others opinions on new stuff but this time I want to know what is happening. I won't get the dvd if it is just re-organized from the past 3. However, if Alex or Lynn is on it i probably buy it. Either way, I will get the cd as I don't have I tunes.

I'm inclined to at least get the DVD myself.  After all, there's some great special features/behind the scenes stuff on it if you read the article about it, and Alex and Lynn are definitely on this DVD if I understand everything correctly.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but this would be a splendid opportunity to finally release, on DVD, the version of "O Holy Night" that was performed at Slane Castle, as part of the New Journey show, and is currently only available as an online video at YouTube. I've always considered it a much better version than the later rendition at the Helix.

That would indeed be terrific if they put that video of "O Holy Night" on this DVD.  I hope they do.  We shall see. :)

The way I have this figured--- if we get all our favorites on there it'll be a 4 disc DVD.  LOL   Regardless, I'll be getting it. The songs listed are outstanding.    But one of my big favorites is  " Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".  Some of the best harmony EVER!!!     One song I don't particularly want on there is---er, hmmmmm, I'm thinkin', there must be one I don't care for--- OH YEAH- no wait I like that too--- OK I'll get back to ya!!

No forgivness needed,I am with you on this one. You must remember no matter how much we like, love, or enjoy CW, and no matter how nice and kind they are to the public (us), it's just business. They have to make a buck to keep on keepin on. These gh cd's are a good way to do that, and my guess is are much cheeper to produce. I can't tell you how many greatest hit's cd's I own. I usually wait for them cause they usually have the songs I like the most anyway. But hopefully, this cd-dvd will have enough new stuff that I will want it too. It will be interesting to see how this one shakes out. Good thought though!

I am looking forward to the new version of You Raise Me Up, with all the girls singing, and a gospel chorus to boot!. We don't have a recorded version of either the Helix or Slane, not of all the girls singing. The one on the Helix CD is mostly Lisa singing, which isn't a bad thing ;D, but to get one with all the girls harmonies in on it would be wonderful.

Excuse me, but where has this been announced? I can't find any news of this "Best of..." on either the Cletic Woman site or on Amazon. Any link?

Celeste, Thanks for calling attention to O Holy Night on Youtube. It is  most beautifully sung and I, too, wish it was going to be on the new DVD. I'm looking forward to a DVD that combines so many of the songs I love, plus a couple of new ones.

What exactly is going to be on the dvd besides an "Intimate behind the scenes documentary". The same songs that are on the cd only performed live ??? I can't really find out anything about the dvd.

The info on the dvd has not been released  but has behind the scenes and performances and could be of the most songs on the cd. Geee only a guess ::)

well, didn't some article say somewhere that the songs for the dvd were still being finalized? So that would at least mean that there will be more songs on the dvd then the cd will have.

As all of the other CW CDs are on iTunes and they released a four song EP and as Green the Whole Year Round exclusively via iTunes, it's a good bet that the new album will be on there as well.

The insert this time isn't a booklet but rather a folded six panel sheet and there are some interesting things to be gleaned from it. The gospel choir that does the backups on YRMU is the Discovery Gospel Choir. The album design was once again done by Máiréad's sister in law Caroline. The two pictures used on the sleeve are the one warehouse picture from CW.com and the white individual photos all put together. Both include Alex. Synan O'Mahony is listed as the stylist so I'm assuming he either made or picked out the girls dresses. Scott Porter is now listed the CEO of CW Ltd. with Dave Kavanagh being the Executive Chairman. And we've added another Kelly sister, Joanne, to the company as a product manager.

Without hesitation I'm going to say the BIGGEST surprise of the album is Chloë's voice. As others have noted in the thread about The Call her voice is different... it sounds more like she's settled into it and it's lost some of its breathy-ness and gained some MAJOR power. Because of this Pie Jesu is a total surprise and it is a gorgeous duet with Lynn. Ave Maria has the same music as it does on the original CW CD but Chloë recorded new vocals for it and it's awesome.

The Call is new, obviously, Orinoco Flow sounds like they just changed the music not the singing, You Raise Me Up has an added verse and starts out in a different key then the original version, and Green the Whole Year Round is a studio track, not the live version that you can buy off iTunes. Shenandoah - The Contradiction is a studio track... which is kinda odd to listen to as I'm so used to hearing the live versions and I've seen Máiréad do that combo live on the tours. Everything else on the album is stuff taken from the other CDs.

That should, I hope, answer any and all questions people might have about the new CD. If I've missed something feel free to ask.

So it's not the tour version of SDS?  What about Hayley's lines?

No, I don't speak German. But, Amazon is Amazon so I walked myself through the checkout on Amazon.com the same time I was checking out on Amazon.de. It also helped that I'm really familiar with the Amazon checkout process.

And good call, I did forget to mention SDS. It's not the tour version, so we're still missing the tour verse. *sigh* Chloë sings Hayley's lines.

And there is no DVD yet in Germany.

I am famaliar with Amazon check out process just that for Germany for instance and UK, that Names and address are in different order than here, I should pull up Amazon.com and .de and follow it that way. I let you know........

Is Beyond The Sea the Japanese Single version? Very strange about The Sky The Dawn The Sun how did they edit out Hayley I wonder, is it an old recording?

Something else I forgot. Yes, Beyond the Sea is the Japanese single version, so no Hayley. As to SDS... I have no idea. There's several ways they could have done it but I have no way of knowing for certain how they did do it.

I'm not an expert mind you. But I don know a little about the recording process. (If I am wrong in any aera, please correct me experts!  ;)) But when they do a recording, typically, they create a digital version of the song with 'fake' instrements. Then the artists sing the song to that digital copy. All artists' voices are recorded on different mics and recorded on seperate tracks. Then the real music is recorded, and pasted together with all of the seperate tracks for the artists. Then tada! You have a recording. Since all the 'pieces' are recorded sepretaly, it wouldn't be that hard for Hayley's part to be taken out.  ;D

Celtic Lass you are on the right path though different. The music tracks are seperate than the vocals. Also not all artist record digital but on or analog,  tape for warmer sound yet transfer digital. And processed for vinly and cd. Though alot of us won't know the difference listening to the radio. Will know The music tracks are sampled by others who really can't sing.
Also older albums that were transfered to cd you can still hear the hissing when cd's being made in the early 80's. Also with DAT(digital audio tape) to record from vinyl and cd's to transfer.
I am just keeping it simple. But just as you like what you hear and like is important you

Hmm...sounds like most of the group songs that were on ANJ, have been redone, or other releases, as mentioned about the Japan versions. So pretty much alot of new sounds, since use to hearing Hayley on some of them.

Sure is alot do you think it will all be highlights of the last three dvds? cause if it is I hate to say it but thats kind of boring.

That is what was stated from the begining. This DVD was a highlight of the past 3yrs of CW.  Basically the Story of CW so far.  Now whether there is commentary between the songs, don't know. I know it has that 1hr long documentary, but is that seperate from the songs, it sounded like it was from all the articles I had read.

It's like me and ABBA, I have several DVD collections,  but they have the same music videos, just something to add to ones collection.

Also I think this DVD is to help with just keeping them in the eyes of the public, till they can Do the DVD they were going to do this past summer. Gives PBS something to work with for their pledging.

Gee, Mel....nice to know I'm not the only one that has collected ABBA stuff ;D ;D

I can't help but notice that A Christmas Celebration is not well represented (apart from Green the Whole Year Round). Too bad, because so many songs on that DVD deserved to be put on a Greatest Hits collection.

I think the reason GTWYR is included, is it's almost, ALMOST not a Christmas song.  I mean right now I have no Christmas songs on my iPod (unlike last year, when the ACC was on my iPod for months before Christmas), but I do have GTWYR, ok..so it's a Lisa song, but that's not why I have it on there... 8), but it's a nice SEASON song.

I received my promo copy of the cd today :)

I received my advance copy yesterday (Monday) and predict the new song "The Call" will be a big hit with all fans of CW.   I have listened to it over and over today.

Does the Japanese pressing have anything different?

Well they have lyrics in English and Japanese. Depending on label and management could have extra pics, stickers, poster, packing styles. I have CW cds & Dvds from Asia(Japan & China-Taiwan). ACC ending from Asian Pressing is bit different than US pressing. That not still footage of the audience at the end with credits rolling. Rather live of us applauding. I was there in the front row what you see on the dvd and of the audience.

 But TGJ,  I will let you know when I get this copy. I have Lp's cd's an tapes from different countries.
 Basically you get more/different than US. Just to keep it simple cause I will blah blah to much on this subject :-X.

I looked but didn't seem to find it. Looked again but I think I will be passing on that for now. A little too steep for me at this time.

Have to shop wisely from now on. Bargain shop.

I agree with you though I am used to buy "import" Cd's (what isn't imported to USA)and LP's. Doing it over 20 years.

I bought today the CD/DVD combo from Taiwan, which wil have extra pics in the booklet I am guessing as they do with ANJ & ACC which the ending is not still footage with credits rolling. :)
