Title: '09 Tour
Post by: Jeanine on August 11, 2008, 12:10PM
I figured I might as well start this now, since Mel went ahead and started the possibility of Chicago. It will probably be a while yet before we know anything about the '09 tour dates, but if any start trickling in, we can talk about them here. :)

I really am hoping they come back to Columbus. Would be completeing my journey, at least, since that is where my first show was at. And if they do, I have made a deal and been taken care of.

Amen!  Those two were my only CW shows.  This time around I know about the Forum and that there are people like Jeanine who are there too.  It would be great to take my 2 little girls (4 & 3 years old and big fans) to see "the Girls".

Maybe, if there is enough Forum interest in that show we could get together before the show at....I don't know...Fiddler's Hearth? or maybe since pizza seems to go over big on the Forum......Barnaby's?  Both local favorites and both minutes away the beautiful Morris Performing Arts Center.

LOL!!

It would be great if we could have some more forum members join us here, should the girls come.  They did an M&G here in April 2007, though I didn't go to it, just the show.  I have asked our local PBS station if they heard anything about the possibility and am waiting for a response.  I would vote for Fiddler's Hearth.  It's our local publick house, patterned after Ireland's pubs.  The food is good there too, with authentic Irish menu items. ;)

Ugh! April 5th is a Sunday...that would be way too tricky to drive to Tampa and drive back on the same night BEFORE school the next day. If it could have been the 4th, it would be PERFECT. I suppose I could start hoping and praying that next semester's class schedule will have no class on Monday for me, but I have a feeling that's just gonna be waaaayyyyy improbable.  :D

Awesome!  Our first trickle of tour dates!  As far as the lateness, who knows, perhaps they're simply not starting in FL this year or perhaps they're starting later in order to record the new show! ;) Can't wait for official news from CW Ltd.! ;D

Title: Re: '09 Tour
Post by: cool2it on August 17, 2008, 01:44PM
Chicago informed me, last week, that they would have no information until mid- November.   I'm not sure if that meant fo us or they didn't know.  I sure don't blame them for not releasing any info-- talk about opening a flood gate!!!    :D  :D  It seems that all venues would have the date because of reserving the auditorium for the show. But as I said, who could blame any of them for holding back until they can sell us the tickets.   Would be nice to be able to make plans ( for those of you that need to) and to get a hotel lined up.  I guess I'm just anxious to get them here!!   :)  :)  :)

I have been thinking, something that isn't a good thing for me, but maybe CW wants to spend a real Spring/Summer in NICE weather, so they are delaying the start of their Spring Tour to get past OUR Cold weather.

Ok, I figure with all the rain Ireland has been getting, the past 2 summers at least, that sounds like they need some SUNSHINE to soak up for a change.  :D ;)

I would doubt the time is accurate.  It's more likely 12 pm if it's 12 anything.  They've been known to do matinee shows occasionally.  I would definitely make sure it's valid though.

Though they think it will probably be Baton Rouge and we should have confirmation on that within the next day or so. I just received an e-mail detailing CW's stop in Memphis! The girls will be there on April 8 and 9 at the Orpheum Theater (http://www.orpheum-memphis.com/) with a M&G on the 8th.

The local PBS, WKNO (http://wkno.org/), hasn't started advertising the shows yet... BUT we have a contact in WKNO that will sell the tickets now. The prices are $500 for 2 tickets to the show and M&G on the 8th and $200 for a pair of tickets to either show.

If you are interested in buying tickets to these shows before WKNO starts selling them on TV, PM me and I'll pass along our contact's name and phone number.

Close! It was the Regis and Kelly appearence on St. Patrick's Day 2006. The girls were asked how real Irish people celebrate St. Patrick's Day and that was Méav's response.

The performance (to Chris :P) can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvsbInFb3RI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvsbInFb3RI). The question is at the very end.

Title: Re: '09 Tour
Post by: aislin on September 09, 2008, 05:45PM
Shywolf,

With the exception of the Tampa Bay show all of these dates have come directly from PBS. CW is one of the most successful fundraisers that PBS has ever had and when CW confirms a date the local PBS's starts advertising it and our members report back and we start a list. The local PBS's have first pick at tickets and by selling in advance they also ensure that people who want good seats will buy from them.

CW.com won't post the entire tour schedule until all, or almost all, of the tour has been set up. Ticketmaster won't start to sell tickets for another couple of months. I'd guess that we'll see the first tickets there around October or November, though that's purely a guess from past experience.

Aislin, I understand that just didn't know some of PBS stations are already having tickets for sale now next year in April. I emailed KCET here at Los Angeles yet no reply yet. Yet will show ACC in December soo maybe maybe shows will be annocunced. I know the PBS station in Palm Desert posted for sale tickets already. Just these are way in advance and Greek Theater here dosen't having listed for April or May next year.

Ok, so I'm a bit confused about something and I'm wondering if some of you veteran concert-goers can help me out.

Are PBS always involved in selling tickets? With Tampa, for example, they only have information on the venue website. I've scoured the PBS website(s) and don't see anything. Obviously, I was planning on grabbing my tickets to the Tampa show from the venue website (when they go on sale), but if PBS is going to be involved and is going to be offering some kind of special thingy I'd get tickets from them. So, I guess my question is, are PBS always involved in selling CW tickets, or does it just depend on the city?

I'm very confused about all of this, lol.

Em, PBS is not involved in every concert.  Your best bet is to call the appropriate PBS station and ask them.

Ah okay, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure. I wasn't even sure if they were involved with the Jax show last year. All I knew was that I got my ticket from JaxEvents.com, lol, which I assume was the venue website. I get so utterly perplexed with all of this CW ticket business. It gets a bit complicated and I guess it's just way over my head at this point. Be smarter than the concert tickets, Emily, smarter than the concert tickets. ;D

I'll definitely do some investigative work with the Tampa PBS and perhaps shoot them an e-mail or give them a call. Thanks, Rich!

Still hoping for a Southeast, FL concert, btw, so I don't have to drive 5 hours. :D

I was hoping that if Tom went to THKs he would try to get info and give us good news. And...he did! Thank you.

I bet they will be at the Benedum. So far nothing listed yet on that web page though. But both those days, a Tues & Wed, have no shows at all for any of our 'cultural' venues. So those days make sense with the venue availablity.

Now if I only have some money left to buy tix. Market down big time again today.

Hello All Excited Concert Goers,

Just wondering, with CW Greatest Album coming out shortly.
Will there be a new CD coming out to go along with the upcoming '09 concerts?
Like how they did with "New Journey"?

Best Regards,
Howard

We don't know, that's the short answer. We do know that the European tour will be the last time A New Journey will be the tour show. Feasibly they could record a new show between the European tour and the start of the US spring tour... but that's pure speculation... and a bit of wishful thinking/hoping.

I bet thats the first time the words "Pittsburgh will be my spring break destination" have ever been uttered.

When I worked at Pitt, I once met a young lady from Miami with the last name 'Marino" For you non-football fans, there once was a famous football player, a quarterback named Marino who played pro ball for the Miami Dolphins but played his college days at Pitt and in fact grew up and went to high school right by Pitt's campus. So I mentioned this to this young lady and asked "Why on earth does a person leave Miami and come to college in Pittsburgh?" And her response was "The nursing school" as she was an undergrad majoring in nursing and Pitt apparently has (or had) a good program.

Anyway, Emily one thing that I will suggest to you The weather here may not be exactly what a Floridian would find as friendly. You may need to buy a winter coat! You may even see some white stuff falling from the sky. Its ok...thats called snow  :D

Someone correct me, but I remember seeing a program from maybe 2006, that had listed, alot of the songs from A New Journey, so did they perfom these songs on Tour before Slane was taped?

Yes they did. I can't remember which ones, but I did compare the two programs and there were quite a few songs listed that were performed on the 2006 & 2007ANJ tour.

Well...I live where people Spring Break so the whole "lying on the beach for an entire week" is kind of boring to me. I can do that anytime, not just during Spring Break. :D LOL!

BTW, speaking of Dan Marino and the Dolphins....random fact: The Miami Dolphins training camp is located at the University where I attend law school, hehe. ;D

And anyway, I'm kinda thinking of traveling for CW during my Spring Break, since apparently they'll be touring during that time and it would just work out so well schedule wise. I really want a Meet and Greet this time and I doubt Florida will get any. Gonna have to fight for one, it looks like.

I'll be sure to buy a winter coat for that falling white, fluffy stuff. ;) I think there's one buried back in my closet that I haven't used since I got moved back from Tallahassee. :D

Seriously though I hope you can make it. I am just kiddin' around here. Not trying to discourage you from coming here. Just something about Pittsburgh as spring break destination just seems...different. But in your situation with school and the tour schedule it certainly makes a lot of sense. Another strange thing that has happened in the past is when the college kids around here (and there are tens of thousands) go away for spring break in March, we always seem to get a snowstorm  :(  Kind of funny how that works out sometimes.

I will see when more of the tour schedule will come out, as well as how many Florida dates are going to be available and if any of them will have Meet and Greets. That's what I'm shooting for this time! But I dunno....March may come around and I may find myself in Pennsylvania for Spring Break!  :D

Ooooh yeah, that's true. I guess because I'm a Floridian I don't really care about the seasons enough to know when they start/end. It all feels like Summer here, lol.

I'm really anxious to know more tour dates. I want to know what's going to go on in Florida, so I'll know if I'll have to pack my bags and do some serious traveling for Celtic Woman. There are shows I'm interested in attending due to good timing with my schedule (i.e. during my Spring Break) and M&G stuff, but I don't want to commit myself until I know all of my options. I'm practically getting hives over this!!! Eeeeeeeeeek!!!

I love the title of the new show.  Reminds me of the song Isle of Hope Isle of Tears.  Maybe CW will sing it!   ;)

Here's a link to Brian Dunphy's MySpace page,  it's my favorite version of this song.

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=77453246&MyToken=9d4b43a5-b5f5-43be-8fc7-6702a89c4467

Plus the song is written by a certain person you might have heard of.  Here's the lyrics:

Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears ()
Author: Brendan Graham

On the first day of January
Eighteen Ninety-two
They Opened Ellis Island
And they let the people through.
And the first to cross the threshold
Of the Isle of hope and tears
Was Annie Moore from Ireland
Who was all of fifteen years.

CHORUS
Isle of hope, Isle of tears,
Isle of freedom, Isle of fears,
But it's not the Isle
I left behind...
That Isle of hunger, Isle of pain,
Isle you'll never see again
But the Isle of home
Is always on your mind.

In her little bag she carried
All her past and history
And her dreams for the future
In the land of liberty.
And courage is the passport
When your old world disappears
’Cause there's no future in the past
When you're fifteen years.

CHORUS
When they closed down Ellis Island
In Nineteen Forty-three
Seventeen million people
Had come there for sanctuary.
And in springtime when I came here
And stepped onto its piers,
I thought of how it must have been
When you're only fifteen years.

CHORUS

But the Isle of Home
is always on your mind

I haven't checked this thread in a little while, but now that I have, just to let everyone know, I have emails and questions sent to both of the PBS stations which sponsored the two concerts I've attended.  One, of course, was WQED in Pittsburgh, the other was WPSU in State College at the Penn State University campus.  If I'm able to get any more information that hasn't already posted, I'll put it up as soon as I'm able!

A concert close by would be great again, although I'm still trying to figure out if I can manage Chicago this year.

Hesprit...hope they come your way!

I received an email response from the "Director - Radio, TV Programming, Marketing" at WPSU, the station in University Park, PA located on the campus of Penn State University.  He said that they don't know of any plans for Celtic Woman to return to Central Pennsylvania, but "if they do we (the station) would be very interested in partnering with the venue hosting the event."

I ... kinda sorta hinted that it might not be too late to see about making some contacts to see if the schedule was filled up yet.

Currently, there are no Los Angeles tour dates listed for 2009 via the Celtic Woman website, and we, at KCET, do not have any information regarding whether or not we will be offering tickets during any upcoming pledge drives.

Hello Concert Goers,

Report from South Florida...
I was able to confirm this today, (Mon. 9/22)...
From WPBT2...CW are not scheduled for concerts in South Florida, includes: Miami, Ft.Lauderdale,West Palm Beach areas.

I was told my concerns will be give to V.P. of Programming, I was informed, like Rich has posted, these concerts are up to CW.

But it's still only Sept 2008, things can change....
I am asking help from members to call this station 1-800-222-9728, to let them know your concerns, put pressure on them to do their best to get CW in South Florida.

Best Regards,
Howard

UGH!!!! I hope that is just because it's still really early.  :'(

Yes I think that it is still early. It seems few of these places wish to be quoted on a date that isnt set in stone. Cant blame them though. Gotta wait till things are official. And we do seem to be a somewhat eager and energetic bunch. Perhaps these things just need time and we need to be patient.

If that holds true (no South Florida, although, as you all point out, it is a bit early in the game) it would be a bit of a bummer. I know there's lots of CW fans down there just itching for the girls to stop in South Florida again and, to be honest, I thought it'd be real nice if they were to play The Kravis Center again in WPB. But again, it's early. Everyone keep their eyes peeled and their ears to the ground. Maybe something more solid will turn up.

Although myself and Emily and, I'm sure others, are still counting on the 'double-header' in Tampa on 04/05/09.

Also be informed, SOME PBS's may not want to give out that info just yet. They maybe saving it for their members first.  They will send out notices, much like Cleveland did, to their current members to give them first info and opportunity. Then they will go thru their pledging drive. There are some exceptions though.

Hello Concert Goers,

SOME GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!   :o

I just received an email from the program director of PBS2, Public Broadcasting in South Florida (Miami,Ft.Lauderdale,West Palm Beach)....

I have been informed that they are working now to have CW in South Florida this December 2008...
She told me if I don't hear from her by mid-Nov, I should get in touch with her to get an update and the details...
When I find anything out, I will post it.

Prayers do get answered.... ;D

Best Regards,
Howard

Wait...they're working on getting the details worked out by December '08 or getting CW by December '08? There's no way...they've gotta be mistaken about that.

Wow, I'm confused, but at least they are saying something other than NO CW.

By reading what Howard got from the PBS station there, is to have CW perform in South Florida December 2008.

It may not be a Tour show that the PBS is talking about, but maybe an appearance, on the PBS for a Pledge night, to promote the new DVD that is coming out and the New Tour.

But we will just have to wait and see what CW announces.

To the best of my knowledge CW isn't planning on being in the states in December. They typically spend the winter holiday months at home with their family, which is why we've never seen the Christmas show on tour.

I'm betting that howard meant the PBS would have a date for the Spring tour set up by December. Mid-November is way to close for them to try to be selling tickets to a show, especially considering that it will be the holiday season and people will be traveling. I also can't honestly see CW coming over for just PBS station promos.

So exciting :) I really should contact WPBT and get in their good graces also, so I can get these updates too.

Hello Everyone,

It was bought to my attention there may be some confusion, what I have previously posted...

Quoting word-for-word...

"As per VP of programming there is a new show that we are trying to obtain for December"

Reading this more carefully, she may be thinking of the new "Greatest Hits"

However, I did spicify a live concert...
I have sent a message to have her be more clear in what she means.

I apologize for any confusion...

Best Regards,
Howard

That does make a bit more sense. They can't be coming here for a show, in Dec, when they will be here in March '09 for a full-fledged Tour.

The other thing aislin notes here is (the above mentioned Christmas show) and CW not being here in the States for that. Naturally, they all want to be home with their family, friends and loved ones during the Holiday Season but ... wouldn't that be something if they did perform the ACC Tour here, in the States, for the Holiday Season!! Now that would be something to behold. One of the things I keep hoping one day they do do ... ahh, do, do. Ahh, do do one day. You know what I mean  :D.

Going by the quote that howard posted above it sounds like they are talking about airing TGJ on that PBS station. That makes sense as that's the pattern we usually see with PBS, they start airing the new CW shows in the December pledge drives and the DVD gets released around that time as well.

Hello Everyone,

This is the final time I am going to post about this.

I spoke on the phone today (Sept 26), to the program director of PBS in South Florida, to get a clarification from the email she sent me about concerts in the area.
As of today there are NO PBS CW concerts scheduled in the South Florida area (Miami,Ft.Lauderdale,West Palm Beach).
However, they are working to see about have CW come to S.Fla for their new show in 2009.
The director told me she will know better what's going on end of Nov., she told me I can call her back then.

Sorry for my previous post...I let my heart speak for my brain.

Best Regards,
Howard

It doesn't hurt for us to contact our PBS stations often with these types of inquiries.  While they may find it a bit irritating at times, it does serve to communicate to them how great the interest in Celtic Woman continues to be. Of course, the acid test for them will be in the pledges they get during the fund drives.  Let's not forget to do our part there also!  :)

Title: Re: '09 Tour
Post by: aislin on September 28, 2008, 01:18PM
Cris,

Here, to the best of our knowledge, is what is going to happen on the spring tour. The current European tour will be the last of A New Journey. The spring tour will be a completely new show called Isle of Hope. I'd imagine the new songs off TGJ, The Call and Pie Jesu, will be on tour as well as several more new songs. When the accompanying DVD/CD comes out depends on a few things such as when they actually film the new DVD and whether or not they already have the CD recorded when the tour starts. In theory they could film a new DVD in January or February of next year and have it out in around the middle of the tour. But historically CW has filmed their specials in August/September.

There's also a bit of history to throw in here as well, just because it's a new show doesn't mean that it will be all new songs. When CW first started touring after the original DVD several of the songs from A New Journey were used, such as At the Céili and The Voice, and when A New Journey went on tour a few songs from the original show remained, Butterfly and You Raise Me Up etc.

Yeah but I like that too aislin. It's actually a good thing I believe, to leave a couple/few of the ole favorites in there. Brings back memories of all the concerts and good times gone by. So, that's fine by me, as I'm sure it is with lots of CW fans. I'm actually happy to hear you say that.

Isle of Hope works for me, I suggested to David he call the new show A New Hope, but if one of my words is in there I'm happy and kinda sounds the same. I would really love it if he used the lyrics I wrote for the song A New Hope, of course I'm sure it would have to be re-wrote as I wasn't sure if it worked.

Okay, this is what happens to me when I focus too much on overtime at work.  This is the first I am hearing about this...I figured that they wouldn't announce anything till after the European tour.  Now it is fall and YES the 2009 tour whisperings are out.  Heck, I didn't even know about the new DVD out on Oct. 28 until like today.

From the dates I gather, I think that they may start the tour later due to the fact that the new show was supposed to be already filmed by now.  The European tour delayed the taping of the new show.  Does anybody know when the new show is going to be taped for DVD?  It would give a good indication on the scheduling of the 2009 tour.

I just realized, I won't be able to read any reviews of the Show till after I go to my first one (of 09 of course)...I want to be...SURPRISED!!  ;D ;D

Now as for the Tour, I have made a decision. If anyone gets more info about Pittsburgh, such as when tickets are available, M&G etc, and if anyone buys a pair and needs someone to take the extra one (will pay for of course)...I voluteer to take that ticket, especially if it's a M&G. Pitt is only a 3hr drive from me. This offer goes for both nights (least my understanding Pitt maybe 2 nights)

I agree with Bill - in Portland, at what is usually a basketball arena, the balcony seats were a LONG way from the stage.  Five foot tall ladies are not as easy to see as 7 foot tall guys.
Fortunately, I had binoculars.  In Salt Lake, the balcony seats were closer, but I still used binoculars.  (Well, I HAD to check Chloe's nails and report back!)

It has gotten incredibly expensive to travel to shows nowadays. Time was, I didn't worry too much about the cost. Someone I wanted to see ... I booked my flights/hotels and went. Now, it's a different story. Even I'm going to have to scale back. I'd like to make at least 4 shows out of this upcoming Tour, like I always do. But, with airfare AND hotels, etc, so expensive now, I'm not too sure just how many I'll be able to pull off this Tour. I am going to do the two in Tampa and try to get to Orlando the day before Tampa. But beyond that, I'm afraid it remains to be seen just how many more, if any more, I'll be able to fit in. Gas prices are down here in CT, from $4.35 last July to about $2.70 yesterday. But prices on everything else are not following suit. They are staying WAY up there, including flights & hotels. So, I'll have to see. I think it's possible that these ridiculous (travel) prices are going to hamper many of us, unfortunately.

WOOOO HOOOOOO!!!

I called the station in Pittsburgh this morning, expecting to be told I had missed out because I didn't have a chance to call yesterday as I'd planned.  Instead I found out, from the same woman I had talked to a few days ago, that they DID still have tickets available for both shows in Pittsburgh as well as the Meet & Greet on March 3.

As of now they have one less ticket for that particular show and M&G because yes, I GOT MINE!

Now if I can find a travel route that lets me avoid that mean old bridge that even confused my GPS unit last year, I'll be all set!  Hopefully the venue location will be easier this time, but either way ... I'm not planning to miss this!

**LOL**  Very possible!  Last year, trying to get to my hotel, I had to go just a short distance over that bridge in the middle of downtown, the one that cloverleafs so much.  I absolutely hate that bridge, you can never see where the exits are until you are passing them and usually in the wrong lane.  That's what confused my GPS last year too, it didn't recognize it was a bridge and was giving very casual directions, without mentioning a lane to be in.  Then once off track, the GPS kept trying to send me down a street (to get back on course) which was not actually a street, it was a parking lot that you had to pay to get into.

If only I had realized that I was as close to Mellon Arena as it turned out I was at that time, I'd have gone straight there, and then rest the GPS to give me the route to my hotel, although that still meant the bridge again.

This time I'm taking more advance time to find a better route, if it's at all possible ... but no matter what, concert with M&G ... oh yeah, it will be worth it!!

Wolf Trap. Rats. With other dates considered that looks like it will be the closest to my house. Looks like no CW shows for me this go round. Drat.

Knowing Pittsburgh, you will still get lost.
HEY!!!

Tom you get lost because you are from Cleveland and we Pittsburghers will give you wrong directions unless you wear Steeler Black&Gold!  :D

ok getting serious, I hate to admit it, but Tom is correct. We have so many bridges, tunnells, hills, one way streets, detours...this place can be a real nightmare for strangers trying to drive around and find things. Parking will also be an issue. There are lots and garages nearby, but its not as easy as the lots at Mellon arena that are right there and are very easy to see and find. There is a lot right across the street, but I bet that fills up very very fast.

I've added the Wolf Trap date to the schedule. I've also received additional info on the Salt Lake City show, it will be at the E Center and there will be a M&G.

Mike,

I live in the neutral territory near Youngstown so please don't affiliate me with Cleveland.   ;)

I travel the US constantly for work and the only city worse than Pittsburgh to get around in is Boston.

Your a better man than me to put up wiith that mess.

Thanks,

Tom

Thomas, Boston and Pittsburgh are worse than Los Angeles to get around ???  Come on over here and you will experience traffic problems.

Title: Re: '09 Tour
Post by: Mel on October 23, 2008, 02:36PM
ok, I know we are going off topic here, but one small bit to add on the Traffic.

I have driven in all 3 cities. LA is by far the easiest to get around. LA streets are pretty much straight. Boston and Philly...curve, dead end, turn into No Enter etc. Found Boston to be a nightmare.

Now back to our reg scheduled topic  ;)

Title: Re: '09 Tour
Post by: Cash on October 23, 2008, 03:02PM
Well it is sort of off topic, but not entirely. Since the concerts here are early March, one must consider the real possibility that we could have snow. Winter weather, combined with our large number of hills, would be things that a place like LA doesnt have to worry about. Theres nothing like trying to drive up/down a snow/ice covered big hill.

But we will keep our fingers crossed for great weather when CW is here.

Title: Re: '09 Tour
Post by: Shywolf(Craig) on October 23, 2008, 03:26PM
True off topic , Mel one of many you didn't mention that in City of Los Angeles is bad public transit, need more trains and buses, smoother streets so suspensions are not always wacked out. Hmmm let me think oh more cars roads can handle, gridlock everyday on the freeways and infastructure actually in the whole state to be fixed. That means alot of money we voted for and the gas tax to pay for it was put in the General Fund in the late 70's. Basically it dosen't go where it supposed to.. We should have monorail and lightrail bus systems like in Europe and Asia.
I done on this topic.

Title: Re: '09 Tour
Post by: CWFan2 on October 23, 2008, 04:34PM
(I know still, maybe, a tad, off topic but ...) I haven't been in Boston in 30 years. It was tough then. So I don't suppose it's gotten any easier to get around. Used to be, people in BeanTown drove like lunatics. Pittsburgh, I passed through once or twice, many, many years ago. That's a tough city to drive around, if you are not at all familiar with it. I prefer more 'user-friendly' cities, like Oklahoma City, for example. I'll just take a cab anyway. WAY easier.

Finally a schedule and South Bend, IN is nowhere to be found on it.  Kind of bummed by that.  I know I should not be complaining because I've seen them twice in my area and some of you have had to travel far to see them.  Some have yet to see CW live due to no concerts in their area.  I was hoping to take my two little girls this Tour and now it will be difficult.  I don't know if I should try for Grand Rapids in February (3 hours away if the roads are not snow covered) or Fort Wayne on June 24.  That sounds better, but the 24th is a Wednesday and we would probably need to take off work to make that one.
Sorry for rambling.  I just don't know how this works.  Joining a PBS Station that is not in my town and knowing how to get tickets.  I always waited for the Show during the pledge drive and pledged and got tickets.  This will be different.

Oh, there is Chicago also.  Weeknight :(.  Yikes!

Suggestions welcome.

Or you could just say "Stop whining  Phil".

TPT (http://www.tpt.org/ (http://www.tpt.org/)) is the PBS sponsor for the Twin Cities.  This is what their rep, Melissa Jones, had to say about tickets:

I’m the pledge producer here at tpt, and your email was passed along to me.

We are partnering with Celtic Woman for their Feb. 13 concert. We have tickets and a very limited number of meet & greets that will be offered to our viewers during our upcoming pledge drive in December, so I won’t have any additional M&G passes available.

If you are interested, we could talk about a group sale of seats to the show. Let me know if you’d like to talk more about that option.

I just got tickets for the March 3rd Pittsburgh show, and they're my first ever M&G!!!! I am soooooo excited! Anyway the M&G for there were $150 for a single or $300 for a pair, which isn't too bad for M&G.

My previous two concerts were about 20 rows back on the floor of an arena so the view wasn't great but the Benedum looks amazing! I don't even care that it's 5 months away haha!

But yes, that's what I paid for mine as well and I'm really looking forward to the Benedum also!  I was at Bryce Jordan in 2007 and at Mellon Arena last March so having a smaller, more intimate venue with performance oriented acoustics ... I can hardly wait!

I keep telling him there's nothing like seeing Mairead sprinting across the stage in person. ^_^

Well, sadly I had a few travel issues and missed getting to meet everyone at Mellon last year.  I was actually lucky to have made it at all, although I do believe I saw several of the forum members walking across the street to the arena together while I was waiting in traffic *lol*

I'll look forward to meeting you and some others as well, since it will be the first time I've been able to .. and for your boyfriend, you're more than welcome to confirm for him how true your comment is.  There's nothing like it at all ... a sight that is impossible to forget, especially when seen up close!

Well I won't be able to make Chicago but I might make St. Louis. My mom said we could probably arrange to go to a Chicago show, but Lord of the Dance is in Peoria on the 17th. I could make the CW show on the 18th but with both of those days being school days, it'd be just crazy and I'd be so tired by Friday. So many shows, so little time...

Sorry for going slightly off topic....

How do you know this? I do not see a 2009 schedule for Lord of the Dance on their official web page. I also do not see anything on the schedules of our local performing arts venues where the show is likely to take place.

Last year I saw that show 6 days after seeing the CW concert, which was kind of cool having both shows close together like that. But I hope to go again in 2009 but I want to get tickets early and get better seats, though my seat last time was good even though bought it at the last minute.

Sorry, aslin, I don't know which day. They said they had 25 pairs to sell total. I don't know how many pairs are typical for each M&G. 50 people sounds like alot to me for one M&G though. But i've never been to a show so don't go by what I think! ;)

MPT is now selling tickets for the St. Patrick's Day concert in Baltimore.  As of Monday (yesterday) you can purchase tickets and meet and greet passes. There are 4 ticket price levels. Call Matthew Raines at 410-581-4150 for additional information on ticket prices and show times. You can also purchase your tickets right over the phone.

Thank you for taking the time to email us regarding Celtic Woman. The details of this event are still being worked out so I cannot give you pledge amounts or tell you if there will be a meet and greet.

This program will most likely be used in our December Fundraising Campaign. That is all the details that we have as of now, please feel free to check back with us in Mid/Late November.

the Tour list on CW is update all the way to RR.

They have added MORE shows. Tampa has a second show, Mohegan Sun, Wallingford also has a second show, They took one of the Grand Prairies, and put Houston in its place, also Long Beach and San Diego have been added. Gainesville has moved to April 2, and also Savannah Georgia as been added...

I think CW is trying to hard, the last couple, they forgot to put the State they are in, lol.. :D :D :D

All I know it the last count was like 96 shows  :o :o :o

What are they doing!! are they trying to set a world record?? ???

This is a good point. If I remember right, back when I was a youngster, concert tours werent as long.  Groups might hit the 60 or 70 biggest venues. I never followed them THAT close, but I cant recall many doing 90.

They also didnt do spring AND fall tours. CW adds a lot more dates when they do the fall tour as well. BUT...

Maybe thats something to think about as to why they are doing so many spring tour dates. Maybe they will cut out the fall tour and use that time to rest, do new shows / dvds, do mini-tours in Europe & Asia, etc. Or, if available, maybe some year do a Xmas tour in the large USA cities. But I wonder if we have seen the last of the fall tour.  ???

Other singers also seem to tour a bit different from previous norms. Carrie Underwood and Toby Keith have sort of had a year long tour, with breaks sort if in it. Perhaps the touring thing has changed, just in general, to adapt to modern times. Groups dont tour exclusively to tour, but also do tv specials, awards shows, new CDs, other projects, etc mixed in with touring.

Also, I think CW is smart to keep going while the iron is hot, so to speak. They are popular, so its time to tour as much as they can now and make as much money as they can. I may sound too much like a greedy american capitalist, but hey you gotta do it while you can. Although I do believe that CW will remain very popular for years to come.

I agree completely. But, I'm going to be greedy here and ask if, please, please, could they add a show in central/western New York? Preferably Elmira, but Binghamton, Canandaigua, or even Rochester, Buffalo or Syracuse would be ok. Probably not, but I can hope.

This is also true. It's certainly not unheard of. (Look at Rhonda Vincent [Bluegrass]. I don't think she ever, ever stops touring. I mean, for real). But this is so far, one extensive Tour for CW. I think the longest that I'm aware of, since I discovered our Angels. Rich may know if this is near the longest or, if they have gone longer. But I'll tell ya, either way, it's grueling. That's why I say I can't thank the entire CW Organization enough for putting together such an extensive and, impressive Tour.

The 2009 tour will be a completely new show. CW has said repeatedly that the European tour this year was the last time ANJ would be the tour show.

Also, I've updated the tour schedule to reflect the updates on CW.com.

Hey guys, I am so happy when I got my schedule when I got the CD and DVD earlier this week.  No Honolulu show... :(  But no problem for me...my supervisor already knows and has no problem giving me leave next year.  So another Celtic Woman concert vacation to the US West Coast for me.  This is going to be my 3rd one.

If CW wants to make a record, I say let's help them.  Let's see if we can set a record of our own...this is a very aggressive schedule.  Let's see if we can get at least one member of this site to every venue.

WVIZ, PBS for Cleveland just sent me my newsletter.

They have Celtic Woman: Greatest Journey Holiday Special listed for Nov 29th, 7pm. This seems to be the night they are doing the Pledging for the Best Seats in the House. According to the letter.

"This new holiday special is a collection of memorable highlights taken from Celtic Woman's acclaimed PBS specials: Celtic Woman: Live, A New Journey: Live at Slane Castle and A Christmas Celebration. Performances will include "Mo Ghile Mear," "Spanish Lady," "Christmas Pipes," "You Raise Me Up" and many more. All of the songs are intertwined, using stunning scenic and landscape images of Ireland. This special showcases vocalists Lisa, Chloë, Órla, Méav and Hayley and fiddler Máiréad.

Watch this program to learn how to obtain best-seat tickets to see Celtic Woman perform at PlayhouseSquare on June 13, 2009.

In case nobody has noticed, the official tour schedule on the CW site is slightly different than the CD/DVD insert.  For my own convenience I converted the schedule to a spreadsheet and I figured others might want it, too.  I tried to copy/paste directly into Excel but it wouldn't work.  I then used OpenOffice and it transferred beautifully without any rekeying required.  The only thing I did was to split the two dates with multiple shows into individual rows and tweak the formatting a little.  To download it, click here (http://www.mrpeabody.us/CW/Celtic_Woman_Tour_2009.xls).

No information yet. She told me to call back in 2 weeks maybe she will have more information by then.

After looking at the list of cities I find that I will not be seeing CW this season.  As I know over the next year I will likely not have much time off (and my travel funds will be limited) unless they change the schedule to include Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal (the 3 places they came the last time the crossed the border) I won't be able to see them in concert.   :'( For Canadian fans of CW (and there seem to be a reasonable number of us) it will be a great dissapointment to not have them visit again.

Hi everyone!  I'm new to the forum and am glad to find a group as excited as I am about CW!!!  I have some tour questions and am hoping someone can help me out.  My daughter and I missed seeing CW when they came to Nebraska last year, and unfortunatly they won't be here on the '09 tour.  But, they'll be close by (Red Rocks).  Does anyone have an idea on when tickets usually go on sale, and for how much.  I've found some ticket sites saying they already have tickets for Red Rocks on sale but at outrageous prices.  Are they legit?  Should I be patient and wait for Ticketmaster?  Any thougts would be great.  Thanks!   :D

I get mine through ticket master. I have to wait due to having to save money for it but I don't think waiting and being patient is bad.

Welcome to the forum PJB! :) I wouldn't worry about those sites. You first want to contact Colorado PBS station. Here is the link to their site,  http://www.kbdi.org/
If you can't get tickets through them, waiting for Ticketmaster is a good thing. I got tickets through them on row 10 two years ago.
Hopefully that helps and again WELCOME! :D

Depending on the Venue, I'll sometimes (actually, most of the time) buy through Ticketmaster. But, sometimes (again, depending on the City/Venue) I'll purchase through the local PBS Station. However, if I can't seem to get the tickets/seats I prefer, you will find me on eBay, buying them there. (I am a long-time member of eBay so, I know my way around and then some). For CW and CW only, I will pay (more, if need be) for these tickets. I won't go as high for any other concert as I will for CW. But that's because, in my opinion, CW is ... the best!!

A word of caution on buying tickets from third parties.  A friend at one of the venues has told me that they have season ticket holders who buy their seats for the sole purpose of re-selling them at hugely inflated prices.  As soon as a concert or series is announced, they post their tickets with an online broker.  Many buyers are tricked into thinking that those are the only tickets available.  In truth, they are often not even good seats, and you can do much better at far less cost.  These unscrupulous sellers turn a nice profit on their season passes, and still get to attend a few select shows.

Title: Re: '09 Tour
Post by: Mel on November 13, 2008, 01:06PM
I agree with Rich.

While in S.F, someone was actually selling tickets outside the venue, this couple who had purchased tickets thru a BROKER online, found out they were bad tickets, so then they go ahead and buy this other guys tickets. He TELLS them they are the best in the house, yea...well I seen where they were sitting...Not the best seats, unless you like 7th row all the way against the wall.

These people got taken..TWICE.

I meant from licsenced agents and yes look at the map  and tickets of the venue before you buy. And yes people at the shows sell tickets at the show who don't wanna go. ::).  I bought mine for the Greek 2007 show , front row center from a Conneiticut ticket agent.   The same seats OFG had for last show of 2008 tour at the Greek Theater.  ;D

I can honestly say that I've never had a problem, with any tickets I've ever purchased from anywhere, from anyone. Furthermore, I tend to think that local PBS Stations charge extremely high ticket prices as well and, with PBS, you never know where your seats are ... until you receive the tickets in the mail, only to find out you are in Row 23 (for example). If I buy from Ticketmaster, I know what seats I'm choosing before paying for them. Same with tickets I've purchased on eBay. I know the seating chart and where these seats/tickets are in the venue and I, personally, have never had a problem. Thankfully, I might add. But, I've been a member of eBay for nearing 9 years now and I have purchased concert tickets on eBay (among other places/sources too) for the past nearly 7 years, without ever a problem. I'm aware of unscrupulous sellers and shysters and have learned, over the years, to 'read between the lines'. I will not do business with anyone I feel is any kind of a crook or bandit. And I will only go so high ... for any ticket period. No matter who the source is.

How/where anyone chooses to purchase tickets is, entirely up to them. But I can say, honestly, I've never had a problem. Ever.

Emily ... I had no idea of where my seats would be for the 05/11/08 Dodge Theater show in Phoenix. I bought from the local PBS Station, two tickets which cost me $125.00 each ($250.00 total) while the actual face value of each ticket was $54.00! Then discovered, after receiving these tickets in the mail, at $71.00 above face value each, that we were back in Row 23. Which by the way, was the farthest back I've ever been, in my 12 CW concerts.

I bought tickets to the other 11 CW concerts from Ticketmaster and eBay and out of those 11, I had ROW A 5 times, with the farthest seat back ... in Row 6!

Go figure.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news Dakota, but they usually are high. Big bucks! I have to be honest and admit that I have a bit of a problem paying that much, for several reasons. But again, it's entirely up to the individual.

Hello Everyone,

Getting a bit off track here, PBS tickets are first come first served, you do not know where your seats will be until they arrive.  If you take your time ordering your tickets you can be in the back, CW tickets go pretty quick on PBS. If there is a M&G that's about the only way to go...
unless Rich has other ideas   ;)   Just kidding!   :D

True. I have to admit that/agree with that. Problem is, using that theory, many folks don't know precisely when any local PBS may have started selling CW tickets. If you are like me and planning on several different venues/cities and are trying to keep tabs on everywhere you were planning to attend, it can be daunting. Sometimes by the time you find out, or, realize that the PBS you were waiting for to sell, has already been selling for for while, now you're down to rolling the dice ... throw them $250.00 (or, $500.00 for M&G) and hope for the best.

I've gone to a lot of concerts over the years, kind of all over the place. But I have to admit that, finding and buying tickets to CW concerts has not been among the easier things I've done in my life. Seems one has to jump through a series of hoops to try to nail down something that resembles decent seats. Most other concerts I've attended over the years, you knew the date the tickets would go on sale including the time (10:00am, for example) and you were right there, on Ticketmaster, logged in and ready to purchase at precisely 10:00. In 3 minutes, the entire transaction is completed and you go about your life, until the concert date. Ususally, withing about 2, maybe 3 weeks of your purchase, bam, your tickets are in your mailbox. No hoops. No tricks. No trying to figure if and when they might go on sale. No chasing around. No multiple phone calls to a variety of venues. Log into TM, make your purchase at precisely 10:00am and done.

It seems to me that they're are a number of Forum members here a bit confused as to the 'protocol' of securing CW tickets. And from what I can see, with fairly good reason.

I booked my Hotel in Wallingford (CT) for those two shows already. No air travel involved. I drive to and from that one venue. But, as for my other plans (West Palm Beach and Raleigh), I've still held off booking because I didn't want to jump the gun. That is, I didn't want to get too crazy, book $1000.00's of dollars worth of plane tickets and Hotel Reservations only to have the dates and venues changed again. That already happened once with Raleigh for this upcoming "Isle Of Hope Tour". But, that said, I'm getting pretty close to doing just that. Last I checked on the Raleigh trip (from here in CT), it was down to roughly $640.00 for non-stop round-trip airfare and 4 nights hotel. Considering the economy the past year or so, I can live with that. And believe it or not, WPB (from here in CT and also non-stop round-trip and 4 nights hotel) wasn't much more than Raleigh. That's good news folks. Fuel prices are coming down which means plane tickets are coming down, in turn. And at just about the right time for us too.

The less you have to pay out to fill your gas tank, the more you have for other things, too. Of course.

Probably this weekend, I'll book my trips.

For those interested I received a letter today from the PBS station for Orange County, California (KOCE) offering pre sale tickets for the Long Beach concert on April 24th.

The offer is for Orchestra level seating at $225 per pair or $125 for single ticket.  They are also offering a meet and greet opportunity for an additional $75 per person. They state this offer is only available by phone at (888)246-4583. This offer is before they offer them to the general public on air.  No word on when they will offer them on air
