I was just wondering what song you would all like to hear Celtic Woman do a cover of? I'm sure there's millions of beautiful songs out there that they could turn into even better pieces. I personally would like to hear them do a cover of Annie Lennox's "Into the West" from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. I'm obsessed with The Lord of the Rings and LOVE Lisa Kelly's cover of Enya's "May It Be". I don't know if they'd have some legal problems in covering it or not, though. It won an Academy Award and I don't know the legal issues behind that kinda stuff. Anyway, I was just wondering what you all thought about song possibilities.

I've mentioned this on other threads.  One I would love to hear them do is "Bridge Over Trouble Water", specifically as a duet between Lisa and Chloë.

Steph, "Into the West" would be fantastic. I could see that more as an Orlagh song though.

I'm delighted that one of those suggestions has been taken up (Webber's "Pie Jesu").

By far I love it best when Chloe and CW perform classical songs.

Running a close second, I also adore their distinctively Celtic number, particularly those sung in Gaelic. If I knew more Irish folk songs, I'd make suggestions from that genre.

I'm glad you mentioned this! I'm kind of on the fence about this one, though. For the past couple of days I've been thinking about how much I'd LOVE to hear Celtic Woman's rendition of Céline Dion's "My Heart Will Go On". However, being a die-hard Celine Dion fan since forever practically, lol, I don't know if I can hear anyone else singing it but her. I know it would be amazing, and there's no doubt I'd love it, but I'm SO in love with both Celtic Woman and Céline Dion that I think I'd find myself fighting a battle in my head of who's better, lol.

Oh yes! I like this one. I'd want to hear Chloe sing "Yesterday". That would be beautiful, and Lisa sing "Let It Be". Lynn could handle "Lady Madonna".

I was thinking earlier tonight that I'd love to hear the girls cover "Greensleeves". I know Méav does a beautiful version of it on her solo album, but I'd really like it to be on a Celtic Woman album. I've also fallen in love with "I Dreamt I Dwelt In Marble Halls", so if they brought that back into the show or put it on an album, that'd be pretty awesome as well.

Off the top of my head I can't remember who originally did this song, but I'm sure you'll guys know what I'm talking about. I'd love to hear one of the girls do a cover of "Black Bird" ("Black bird singin' in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly..."). I think "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" from Sweeney Todd would be amazing as well.

I'd really love to hear Alex or Lisa sing "Hello Young Lovers" from The King and I. That one would be awesome.

You know what would be a fun song for them to cover? I know it's not Irish, and it's not really a classical piece, but the song "Life Could Be Dream" would be an awesome Celtic Woman cover.

I'd love to hear a cover of "Think of Me" from Andrew Lloyd-Webber's The Phantom of the Opera (without Raoul's little part, of course). I'd also love to hear them sing "Baba Yetu", which is the Swahili version of The Lord's Prayer. It's really pretty. I never even knew about it until a couple months ago; we're singing it in College Choir this semester. I know it's not Irish and kind of breaks away from the beautiful Gaelic, but still. It's a gorgeous song nonetheless if any of you wanna check it out! :D

A great song to use would be the theme of Star Trek:Enterprise entitled "Faith of the Heart" sung by Russell Watson. He and Hayley have some connections.

A year or so ago, I gave my suggestions about the songs they could cover (and it was a very long list). I'm not about to repeat them here. But I just want to add two more, which I found in ABBA's "Super Trouper": First, "The Piper". And second (but not least): "The Way Old Friends Do". I think they could do wonders with those songs.

Every time I listen to The Power of the Dream (Celine Dion), I think of how perfect it would be for CW.  I see it as an ensemble, done similarly to One World.

I recently discovered Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus's musical Kristina Fran Duvemala, and I think it would be a great idea for the ladies to do a few of the numbers (in english, of course), like Hemma (Home) or my favorite, DuMaste Finnas (You Have to be there).

Welcome the Rain [by Zina Goldrich and Marcy Heisler] would be beautiful for Chloe.

Knowing Alex's background in Theatre..she would do "The Last Song" [also by Goldrich and Heisler] very well..it's great fun!

I'll have to think of more songs..but those two stick out for me.

Can we steer this back on topic, please?  It's What song would you like to hear Celtic Woman cover?

I`ve always liked the tune "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by The Band and later Joan Baez. I can picture the 4 ladies harmonizing on this with Mairead  improvising some fiddle. Granted it deals with the Civil War but Mairead has done Shenanndoah and Ashoken Farewell and I believe they`re from that time period.It might appeal to U.S. audiences , especially.

Anyways, enough of that!  I personally would like to hear the ladies sing more traditional pieces.  I'm dreaming for the day they'll sing Loch Lomond--I can just imagine Chloe singing the first few lines of the song (by yon bonny banks and by yon bonny braes...) followed by the other girls. 

Adding on to that, I think I'd like to hear them sing some of Loreena McKennitt's songs as well.

We had an international chorus here a few years ago, and the director, also the VICE CONSUL , always featured
a Spiritual as one of the numbers...Such as "soon I will be done w; the troubles of the world" oR my Lord what a mornin'
and so on.,...I wonder if David has ever considered a spiritual?

Would be really glad if they can do the Christmas carol "Long time ago in Bethlehem" (aka Mary's boy child) in their Christmas collections. And please make a video of it.

This is one of the best carols and would further become lovelier if performed by the Celtic Woman.

Máiréad plays "The Ashoken (sic) Farewell" as part of a medley on the first CW CD/DVD, and up to that point I only knew it as an instrumental number. Recently I found out that the song actually has lyrics when I heard "The Ashokan Farewell" sung by the English male quartet "Blake". It is a very emotive and poignant song. The tune was composed by Jay Ungar after the conclusion of a music workshop that he had held at a camp near Ashokan, in upstate New York. The lyrics were added by Grian MacGregor.  Here are the lyrics as sung by "Blake" (there are a couple of small changes from the original):

I agree that Landslide would be an excellent Lisa song.  Also, I believe the version done by the Dixie Chicks included some fiddling by Martie Erwin - not nearly as dramatic as Mairead, but it shows the song has some potential for Mairead as well. 

Another potential group song might be Turn, Turn, Turn, the the Byrds.

I think since they already did one song from Tarzan I'd love to hear Two Worlds. I don't know how that would work but would be interesting. OR as a group thing Book of Days by Enya. One of my favorite parts of that song is the percussion which would be nice for the drummers to play with!

The singing songs could either be done by one of the girls with "Enya layering" done in the studio, or with all of the girls with Enya-like harmonies. All of these songs, including the instrumental one ("And Winter Came") would require the choir to give harmonies and ambient humming (the "oo's" and "ah's" in melodic chords and chants). The melody could be sung by....hmm....I'd say either Alex or Lisa. Alex would probably be the best fit since most of Enya's melodies (at least in these songs) are sung in an alto-esque range, that would allow Lisa, Lynn, and Chloe to harmonize on higher notes, and Alex is probably most comfortable in Enya's range.

"Defying Gravity" from Wicked/Glee.
Chloe could start, with the "Something has changed within me...." Because she has a beautiful way of singing low and going into the high notes, as in the "rules of someone else's game" bit.
Then Alex could come in the "Too late for second guesses" part... Then Lisa and Lynn come in with the chorus --- (Lynn with high harmony, of course) ---
It could focus on Lynn for "kiss me goodbye," and focus on Lisa with "you can't pull me down."
And that's just the first few lines I've got figured out so far, hahaha. I imagine it as being one of those songs where they employ the wonderful blend of unique voice qualities... (And we'd find a way to fit Mairead and his fiddle in there somewhere, of course, hehe.)

Some parts of the song are very slow and almost reminiscent of "Beyond the Sea." But at the same time, I could definitely imagine a whole orchestral/background vocals type of awesomeness. ^__^

I remember a lot of people suggested "Into the West" from Lord of the Rings for the girls to sing.  There's another song called "Use Well the Days" also performed by Annie Lennox that was meant to be the original ending for the Lord of the Rings films.  However, it was scrapped in favor for Into the West because Peter Jackson felt it didn't quite fit. 

However, the song is very beautiful and has a touching message that both closes the adventure but looks forward to the future as well.  After listening to it, I think the girls would do a fantastic job--I get goosebumps just thinking about it.  Here's the link if anyone's interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxRA4g7mUC0&feature=related

How about a Celtic Woman cover of the Journey song "Don't Stop Believing"? I would LOVE them to close the show with that. Or maybe to close the first act?

I'd like them to do a group version of "Morningtown Ride" made famous by the seekers. I think they could do an awesome job with it.

Since they have fans in Japan & America, I like them to do the following song. It was played a lot on the radio when I was young.  The music is simple. The singing is what makes the song. They could do it in English & Japanese with Mairead playing the whistling part.

Lil' Lambe sang "Black Is The Colour" in the Atlanta filming of "Believe" but it was not included on the tour.  We all know she did a fantastic job with the song and I was very disappointed that it was not included in the tour.  I really hope that it will be included when they start a new show in 2014.

I would like to hear "In Christ Alone", which is a popular contemporary Irish song covered in "New Irish Hymns" (2001) (Moya Brennan participated in this album as well.)

I would die and go to heaven if I had the chance to hear all of the girls come together to sing "How Great Thou Art"

I think religious songs are acceptable, as Celtic Woman has done a lot of them. In Christ Alone is definitely amazing and would fit perfect.
How Great Thou Art would be wonderful too.

I don`t know if this has been mentioned yet, but I think it would be gorgeous if they sang Do You Hear What I Hear? I know Hayley sings it on her album, but how gorgeous would it be if it was a group number? :)

  I know that  Meav and Orla sang it last Christmas in Orla's  Christmas special.  It was very lovely. And I'm sure our current gals would do a fine job too.  :)

I was humming to the song, "The Sound of Music" today and it just occurred to me that the girls could sing this song and it would sound lovely! I can just imagine the harmony between their voices. I think it would be a great song for them to sing!

They should sing "Vänner Och Fränder". It's a Swedish song & I don't think they have ever sang in Swedish. I want to hear them sing in Swedish!

"O Fortuna?" Really? Every CW concert has its sad song, but "O Fortuna" isn't sad, it's apocalyptic. I can imagine men in bunkers and Trident-armed submarines chanting that as they turn the keys.

I know it's a new song, but I'd love to hear their version of the lonely/misty mountain from the hobbit.

Just spent some time following "Hallelujah" around YouTube.  It seems that CW is the best-known act that has not covered "Halleluja", so why not?  As long as they don't drop that last verse:

I've read one report that Leonard Cohen wrote dozens of verses, most of them no longer performed. That accounts for the occasional "Wait, I never heard that  line before!" moments.
Perhaps David could dig up some of that buried treasure to produce a new version that would end the argument over who did it best.

If the next concert needs a sad ballad that isn't about failed romance, how about "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald?"

Being from the mid west, I wouldn't mind that.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but Time to Say Goodbye would be a stunning replacement for The Parting Glass as a farewell song at the end of the show.

I'd love to see them rework Tribute to Broadway! I love the current version, but there are so many more musicals out there that I think they could do. Especially now we have Susan who's a renown West End performer, (I know Alex and Lisa K were both performing in musicals, but in this day and age when information and recordings get passed along so fast, I think that Susan is the best known for musicals out of everyone in CW, just because there are a substantial number of Susan clips and recordings on the internet compared to relatively few from LK and Alex.)
I think Susan could have a few numbers from well known musicals that she could tackle and I think she'd probably appreciate getting to perform some of those songs as herself as opposed to her character.

If they added another religious song, I would love to hear "Nearer my God to Thee."

As a historian and Titanic fanatic (the ship, NOT the movie), it's always been one of my favorites.  Having heard it preformed live several times, I could see them do a beyond amazing rendition.

I know I'm ready to hear "New" music from them, when I heard Emerald was coming out I was excited cause I thought it was going to have new songs on it and maybe some traditional ones I'd never heard before, but then I saw that it was just re recordings of older songs. Not complaining though I love Emerald when do they usually put out a new album?

There's so many! As has been said (I'm sure, but I'm not going back to check cuz that'd take FOREVER!) I'd love to hear An Maidrin Rua and Phil The Fluter's Ball a la Roots Of Ireland. I would also reiterate the need of a slow air for Mairead Nesbitt to play. She just puts her heart and soul into those. And Susan needs her own solos. Stop revamping old Lisa K solos or old CW songs for her to do. Let's face it. Once a song was a big group number, it's hard to top it as a single voice. Give her something from a musical to sing. Most musical songs are about really showing emotion while singing and Susan is great at that. On My Own or Memory would be great choices! And PLEASE bring back I Know My Love for Mairead Carlin. That was SO much fun!
