I think this is my favorite Lynn song.  I've listened to most of the songs on her CD and yah...Carolina Rua is amazing.  It's a fun one to listen to and its cute.

What I like about this song is it's got a little bit of a tropical feel to it; kind of like reggae.

Carolina Rua puts a smile on my face every time i hear it. but lately i have been on an Erin Beo kick. hauntingly beautiful

   She is terrific in the new show!  I think she is beginning to loosen up a bit and I even got a smile from her in Chicago!! Maybe she was just laughing at me-- oh well, a smile is a smile, is a smile!!  :D

The best-known version of Carolina Rua is by Mary Black.
There is more Caribbean rhythm in her version than the composer intended, especially since he based it on "The Crooked Road" which is a Reel. I have that from Thom Moore himself.

I LOVE Mary Black, I haven't been able to decide which version of Carolina Rua I prefer yet...right now I think they're both neck and neck for me.

Couldn't agree more. Saw CW twice in Seattle and during At the Celli she looked like she was having lots of fun performing with Lisa and Alex.

   I mentioned to Lynn at a Meet & Greet that I thought Erin Beo would have been most appropriate to the theme of the Isle of Hope tour.  In reflecting on it though, those mass immigrations occurred before Ellis Island opened and so wouldn't have been entirely consistent with the theme.  The other one we mentioned as a possibility was Swimming in the Barrow, which also would have been very entertaining.  It's hard to argue with such an obvious hit as Carolina Rua, though!  ;) ;D

Probably a dumb question---what is a  "rua"  a game, a dance ?  I don't understand this song at all.

Same here!!  I didn't know any of the songs to begin with except You Raise Me Up and Orinoco Flow.  After the concert, I went to Youtube and searched CW, and I recognized Carolina Rua.  I thought it was such a happy sounding song!

The song is great. It sounds good, and it has the irish sound  :D I only wish to see Lynn performing it, it must be a lot of fun :D

I can't wait to see her perform it this Fall because at least I'll be able to remember it this time!!!  hehe  I randomly had this song stuck in my head earlier today...

I bought the song on itunes about 3 days after the concert, and I still listen to it everyday.

    I think all will really like the percussion which Ray and Nick add to it in the show, giving it more of a Carribean flavor.  A very nice arrangement courtesy of Mr. Downes!  And Lynn is a knockout in that red dress!  A highlight of the show, for sure!  ;) ;D

I know! The dress was fantastic! It really set off her dark hair and her skin, too. Ahhhhh ;D

I believe (I'm at work and will check when I get home) that the laugh comes from Eve or Eva Mescall.  I would guess that she might be the daughter or niece of Don Mescall who helped produce the album.

Yes the giggles are from Eve Mescall.  It's written in the credits at the back of Lynn's CD insert.

to be honest, the giggles were really strange to me at first but now I have a different perspective on the song and the giggles are adorable!

I’ve been sitting at the computer ruminating on how much I miss Lynn.  Naturally, I was thinking about the songs I’ve heard/seen her perform, but the one that kept coming to mind was Carolina Rua, which is a perfect song to showcase her lovely voice and playful persona.  (Personally, I think the absolute perfect Lynn song would be Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now, but alas, I’ve not yet heard her perform it; maybe some day.)  I had the privilege to see her perform Carolina Rua a few times on the IOH Tour, and it’s on her Take Me With You CD.  She also performed it at Powerscourt, but it didn’t make it to the CD or DVD.  Thankfully, early last year, Amazon put a version on its website; a couple of resourceful Forumites got it on Youtube and the CWF.  Now, you can search through old Topics and messages for it like I just did, but if you need a more immediate Lynn fix, give a look - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0t2soS2Sj8

Well, it was partly selfishness, I really wanted to have the video myself, and I figured others would as well.  Not only do I have the CD, but the video is saved on my computer and is on my mp3 player as well (yes, I finally moved into the new age and bought one that has a video screen ... small, but it's there! LOL)

  This is another one that I like to get up and dance to. The giggles confused me a bit,at first, but I guess its okay not to outgrow the giggles.(If your a gal".)   ;D

I was fortunate enough to see three Celtic Woman concerts in 2009 and I always looked forward to Lynn singing Carolina Rua and do her cute little dance along with the song.  Mairead and her violin also added a nice touch.  Well choreographed.
