Title: Carolina Rua Post by: Kimberly AJ on March 23, 2009, 03:27AM Stories never end 'til you come to conclusions:
Carolina ruadh has a hand in my confusion. Waits for me to choose which quarter to bend in. To Susie-Make-Me-Blue, or the redhead I'm attending. Oh Carolina ruadh has my heart and all I want to do's Go down the windy road where my Carolina goes: Down the crooked road where Carolina goes to school Mo Charolina ruadh, do you love me? Tell me true, tell me...... Standing on three queens, thought the game was over. Then, from the blue, Carolina's at my shoulder: Laughter in her eyes and a smile That touches all the guys On down the crooked road where Carolina goes to school --Mo Charolina ruadh, do you love me? Tell me true, tell me.. Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: cjensen on March 23, 2009, 11:50AM Kaj, thanks for posting the lyrics to this song.

Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: bot1tle on May 21, 2009, 02:27PM I think Lynn has set the bar pretty high for solo cd's
Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: Maggie on May 22, 2009, 01:09AM The best-known version of Carolina Rua is by Mary Black.
There is more Caribbean rhythm in her version than the composer intended, especially since he based it on "The Crooked Road" which is a Reel. I have that from Thom Moore himself. Here is his own version of the song: http://www.broadjam.com/artists/songs.php?artistID=3628# I think Lynn's version is much smoother than Mary Black's, I believe Thom will be happy with it.....and you must admit, Thom.... she's prettier than you! (http://www.broadjam.com/userimages/9/9243/9243_152631.jpg) (http://www.katherinejenkinsusa.com/images/Lynn_Hilary_1.jpg) Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: CRRopes on May 22, 2009, 01:37AM She's prettier than a lot of people! Especially aging males! :P I can't say how much I love this song.
Chris Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: BlueFawn on May 22, 2009, 07:46AM I LOVE Mary Black, I haven't been able to decide which version of Carolina Rua I prefer yet...right now I think they're both neck and neck for me.
Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: RetPgmr on May 22, 2009, 10:26AM She is terrific in the new show! I think she is beginning to loosen up a bit and I even got a smile from her in Chicago!! Maybe she was just laughing at me-- oh well, a smile is a smile, is a smile!! :D Couldn't agree more. Saw CW twice in Seattle and during At the Celli she looked like she was having lots of fun performing with Lisa and Alex. Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: Ggunsailor on May 22, 2009, 05:04PM She is terrific in the new show! I think she is beginning to loosen up a bit and I even got a smile from her in Chicago!! Maybe she was just laughing at me-- oh well, a smile is a smile, is a smile!! :D Why would she be laughing at you, Gary? ;)Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: Starman on May 22, 2009, 05:45PM Carolina Rua puts a smile on my face every time i hear it. but lately i have been on an Erin Beo kick. hauntingly beautiful I mentioned to Lynn at a Meet & Greet that I thought Erin Beo would have been most appropriate to the theme of the Isle of Hope tour. In reflecting on it though, those mass immigrations occurred before Ellis Island opened and so wouldn't have been entirely consistent with the theme. The other one we mentioned as a possibility was Swimming in the Barrow, which also would have been very entertaining. It's hard to argue with such an obvious hit as Carolina Rua, though! ;) ;D Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: rosie l on June 11, 2009, 08:12PM Probably a dumb question---what is a "rua" a game, a dance ? I don't understand this song at all. Rosie Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: shankdee on June 11, 2009, 10:14PM NO, it is not a dumb question...the Chieftains sing..Margarina Rua tah...very catchy...
M A G G I E???? Help.. rosie and shankdee Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: OldFatGuy on June 11, 2009, 10:27PM Ruadh (short form "rua") is Gaelic for "red". Carolina Rua is a song about a redhead named Carolina.
Lyrics: Stories never end 'til you come to conclusions: Carolina ruadh has a hand in my confusion. Waits for me to choose which quarter to bend in. Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: 07-sara on September 16, 2009, 03:57AM I believe (I'm at work and will check when I get home) that the laugh comes from Eve or Eva Mescall. I would guess that she might be the daughter or niece of Don Mescall who helped produce the album.
Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: Jeanine on September 16, 2009, 09:56AM Yes the giggles are from Eve Mescall. It's written in the credits at the back of Lynn's CD insert.

Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: bobh56 on April 26, 2011, 08:21PM I’ve been sitting at the computer ruminating on how much I miss Lynn. Naturally, I was thinking about the songs I’ve heard/seen her perform, but the one that kept coming to mind was Carolina Rua, which is a perfect song to showcase her lovely voice and playful persona. (Personally, I think the absolute perfect Lynn song would be Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now, but alas, I’ve not yet heard her perform it; maybe some day.) I had the privilege to see her perform Carolina Rua a few times on the IOH Tour, and it’s on her Take Me With You CD. She also performed it at Powerscourt, but it didn’t make it to the CD or DVD. Thankfully, early last year, Amazon put a version on its website; a couple of resourceful Forumites got it on Youtube and the CWF. Now, you can search through old Topics and messages for it like I just did, but if you need a more immediate Lynn fix, give a look - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0t2soS2Sj8
Enjoy, Bob P.S. Thanks go to MaryN. And hesprit for preserving this gem for us. Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: hesprit on April 26, 2011, 11:55PM P.S. Thanks go to MaryN. And hesprit for preserving this gem for us. Well, it was partly selfishness, I really wanted to have the video myself, and I figured others would as well. Not only do I have the CD, but the video is saved on my computer and is on my mp3 player as well (yes, I finally moved into the new age and bought one that has a video screen ... small, but it's there! LOL) Anyway, you're very welcome! Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: Emer Dreamer on February 26, 2012, 08:16PM This is another one that I like to get up and dance to. The giggles confused me a bit,at first, but I guess its okay not to outgrow the giggles.(If your a gal".) ;D
Title: Re: Carolina Rua Post by: Hubert on April 07, 2012, 01:09PM I was fortunate enough to see three Celtic Woman concerts in 2009 and I always looked forward to Lynn singing Carolina Rua and do her cute little dance along with the song. Mairead and her violin also added a nice touch. Well choreographed.
