Post by: 07-sara on July 17, 2009, 06:21AM
While CW was in NY taping for GMA the Pentagon Channel did an interview with them.  Check it out (type Celtic Woman into the search box in the lower left side of the screen):

OK that was very cool!  I used the search box to find it.  I didn't know that O'America was a free download to military members...way to go CW!  I thought Lisa's comments at the end were very heartfelt and appropriate.   I was thinking of antiup!

I requested and received permission from Pentagon TV to offer the interview as a free download for our members.  It's a very large Windows Media file (>65 MB) so I'm only going to leave it on the server for about a month.

January 2010 update: The file has been removed from my server.

A better interview I think than GMA. More personal when the interviewer asked about the dresses. Great for the Pentagon to have a site like this. Wish we had had something like that. Our communication was MARS radio.

Do you think Lisa was thinking of anyone in particular with her comments? '

Rich, thanks for the link, I will download tonight.

CW ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOO-HOO!!!  I just LOVE to hear interviews with OUR GIRLS!!  I'm always so tickled at their cute Irish accent!  **giggle!**
LOL---It makes me all "giddy" to hear them speak!  ;D :D  (They forever will make me think of the Lucky Charms cereal guy!  **tee-hee!**)

I also agree that Lisa's comments were very touching.  (Thanks, Lisa!)  **wink!**

Gosh...that's such a beautiful song, too.  I get ALL CHOKED UP every time I hear it--STILL!!!

But for Celtic Woman...
Oooohhhh, America DOES love you...and we DO embrace you with open arms...and we do NEEEEED you, too!

Goodness...THE WHOLE WORLD needs a hearty dose of CELTIC WOMAN!!!  I think if everyone in this entire world could have the opportunity to truly listen to them, and their message...and SEE THEM LIVE...lives would forever be changed.  Hearts would be opened...blessings would be poured out...love and mercy and kindness would be renewed...hope and peace could be restored...and this world would be a much better place...

No matter WHO you are...or WHERE you live...Where you've BEEN...or WHAT condition your life is in right now...this group is an inspiration to us all...and reminds us not to give up..."no matter what".

...just because of a group of precious lives came together a while back to make some pretty music for one night...gosh...

I am truly amazed...and thankful, too!  **sigh**

(Can I hear an "AMEN"?!!)  **giggle!**

Cindy :)

Dearest Rich...

Thank you so much for this...it is just beautiful!
Rich, would you please put this information and link in Méav's Place...we would surely appreciate it.
As you know,  my youngest son,  Jody,  is an Army Captain/Chaplain and will deploy to IRAQ in two weeks.   So this video from CW is very special to him and to me.  He is home for a two weeks of visit with our family and he and I read and listened to this together this morning.  It is wonderful.
Thank you.  Oh,  and I notice that there are other Servicemen on the forum.  I wish them the very best...our family will pray each day for their safe return home to their loved ones.
Again, thank you, Rich!!

When MC1 Liz Murray asked if the ladies had a message for members of the Military serving overseas, Lisa was very diplomatic.

She said it was nice to know they were able to get "a piece of" the show, thanked everyone for their support of CW, and hoped they (the troops) would be home soon.

In Ireland, public opinion regarding the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan in general is not favourable, and there have been protests about Troop Transport Aircraft using Shannon Airport as a refueling stop.
However, the fees paid by the US Military have helped Shannon Airport during tough economic times.

Ireland is not a member of NATO, and only sends troops overseas as part of a UN Peacekeeping force.

Well as a re-retired naval officer, I can tell you that CW was introduced and very, very welcomed during the two deployments that I had an opportunity to join (2007 - 2008) with the USS Nimitz Task Force. Part of Operation Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and the Valilent Shield Exercies. Ultimately, CW's YRMU was established as the lights out/shut down of flight operations song played on board at the end of the flying operations for a given day. Not to mention that the CW DVD's, the original, Christmas and Slane Castle verions were shown nearly every night at one or more of the "moive nights" held in the various ward rooms throughout the ship. This was in addition to the hundreds of IPods and small "boom" boxes playing throughout the ship in various berthing spaces. I dare say that during those deployments the Fifth fleet was a CW nation all unto itself. I have already talked with a number of active duty friends who have downloaded the O'America tune and are passing it around the fleet even now.

Only wish CW could have done a USO show onboard while I was serving. Oh well ........ another Irish dream.   ::)

Yes Tim, I remember you posting about CW during your deployment.
I think it's great they are popular with Military personnel, in fact you may remember we on this Forum sent CDs and DVDs
to Lt.Col. Bruce Allen's First Cav troops in Baghdad, and his son Capt Jason Allen's 2nd Cav Stryker Unit.
The music of Celtic Woman helped soothe the jagged nerves of the troops, when they returned from patrol each night.
They also enjoyed Chloe's DVD, it is so peaceful, made around beautiful Powerscourt.

We took Bruce and his wife to see CW in Jacksonville as a surprise, and to thank him for his service.
Rich put together a huge book of messages from Forum Members, which was signed by all the CW Ladies, then he presented it to Bruce at the concert. I have stayed in touch with him and his wife.
My old sailor enjoys CW music too.
I volunteered with the USO, when they had a welcome center at Orlando Airport.
It was great to see everyone stop and applaud the troops.
Now the closest USO Center is in Jacksonville.
I was driving near Orlando Airport one Saturday, (been to the NEX) when I saw a Galaxy C-5 coming in to land.
I turned around, parked in the airport, and went to say "thanks" to those guys.

In my post about the Pentagon Channel Interview, I was not implying that Lisa and CW don't love their Military fans, just that Ireland is a "neutral" Country where public opinion can be somewhat different to that in the USA.
The ladies have to try to keep everyone happy.
This study paper may explain: http://digitalcollections.sit.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1361&context=isp_collection
I think you can guess my opinion on that.
Tim, thank you for your service in keeping us all safe.

PS - I got an e-mail last week, from VF-143 the World Famous Pukin' Dogs, aboard the Carrier on the way home.
I am an honorary member of the squadron since 1978, the bar I owned in Palma was their "home from home".
I always treated them like family, with great respect. They treated me the same way.
They have invited me to their 60th Anniversary Celebration in September, at the Tailhook.

Tim- On my first tour over here we would also have “lights out” to the CW ladies. Nothing can calm a bunch of rowdy guys after 14-18 hour work day better then CW. I do agree with you that they should do a USO show. I would love to volunteer as an escort around the camps.  ;D ;D
O/T
Maggie- I have been through Romania, Germany and Iceland coming home from these tours and we were thrown into a very small holding area waiting refuel and resupplies. (Basically stretch our legs) In these locations we were lucky to get to a small gift shop, if they were still open. Shannon is very different from what I have heard because the soldiers can walk around the airport. I found the paper very interesting indeed. I actually read the whole thing. I just had a soldier go through the Shannon Airport and asked her thoughts about it. I will save it for a conversation over a CW concert or ALS walk but very interesting response. Honestly never knew it was an issue. Wealth of Knowledge you are.

Back on topic
I just watched the clip again.  ;D
