If any of the former members of CW would return, which girl would you want to return the most?

No offence to Lynn and Alex, they're great performers  ;) But for me Méav and Órlagh. Órla carries one of the symbols of Ireland, the harp, she has a haunting, beautiful low voice, and Méav has such a amazing Irish and mystical sound... songs as She Moved Through The Fair or I Dreamt I Dwelt In Marble Halls makes your soar away, and I always have to smile by hearing Si Dho Mhameo I or Dulaman :D

Yes, I adore Lynn and Alex.  After all, they were two of the singers in the first concert I ever went to!!!   ;D ;D  But, if one could come back, I would choose Orla.  I have fallen in love with her music, and I think it would have been amazing to see her perform live!!! 

Keep Lynn & Alex. But bring back Orla. I think the group lost a little bit of Irishness when she left.

I, like everyone else, love lynn and alex, but if i had to pick one person to come back it would definitely be Meav! lol

I said all of them because you can't pick more than one. I never saw Deirdre but I love her music. Orla and Meav is a given. I love Hayley as a solo so if I dropped one for the list it would be her. I wasn't too fond of Hayley when she was with teh group but as a solo so is great.

Of course bringing them back doesn't mean losing Alex or Lynn. once a CW always a CW.

But lock the doors, don't let anyone else leave.

If I HAVE to make a choice, it would be Maeve - I just LOVED her very high, bell-clear voice, and the SO EASY way she sang in Irish Gaelic.

Otherwise, I want ALL of them back - I liked Orla and Hayley, too. 

Nobody does the REALLY HIGH notes anymore, like Maeve did, & I notice the difference, even though they still sound gorgeous with their harmonies.

I have said it before, and so therefore shall it again....

Form a second Celtic Woman Troupe with those who left but wish to return. But keep their tours short, so that they can be with family, do other projects, etc, and not be committed to the long tours and recordings.

They would do a PBS type of special, then hit 24 USA cities in a 6 week tour. Star in the southeast. Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Nashville, Charlotte, Miami, and jacksonville. Take a brief break.

Then hit the west . Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Denver, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland or Salt Lake City. Take another brief break.

Then hit Chicago, Branson, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philidelphia, Richmond, New York, and Boston.

They would closely and carefully coordinate this tour with the Troupe 1 tour. A way to give some of the more rabid fans something to look forward to when the primary troupe has already played in their city that year.

It would enable those who have left to still be part of the group, yet on a part time basis that would permit them to do other things as well, and earn a few dollars too!

Well I'd love for Lynn and Alex to stay, I'd just love for Meav to come back, but Orla being back would be amazing too.
Hayley has a successful solo career and is doing just fine on her own, it would be nice for her to come back, but not permanently

I had to choose all of them. :D I would love for Méav and Órlagh to come back, because IMO, CW isn't quite the same without them. Again, no offense to Lynn and Alex, as they are both AMAZING singers as well - CW just feels (and sounds) very different with them instead of Méav and Órlagh.

I am a huge fan of Hayley and would love for her to come back as well, if for no other reason than to have her come back to the US. :D I have never really heard Deirdre with CW but I have her CD and love it!

 :D  My vote is for the Celtic songbird, Meav....no one reaches the upper ranges like she does transporting us along with her to the
      ethereal heights....

      and of course Orla's return would cause abundant rejoicing...she is IRISH all the way and the Harp is so lovely...

I would want ALL of them to come back and all 9 of them do a DVD and a CD together!  I always love to imagine what that would be like, especially if all 8 singers were singing something together with Mairead playing the violin!  OMG!!!  That would be awesome!

when ORla quit right before IOH tour...but not the actually pain and sorrow i felt when Meav left...It truly was
a sad time, but Rich and kelli and others helped me understand she wanted to move on and spend more time with her family and now Anna has a baby sister, and Meav is still performing...all is well ! ! !

Why did I love her so late? I've been asking it myself ever since..

The funny thing is, I didnt realize that it was Lisa who sang Green the Whole Year Round, I actually thought that it was someone else and that It was someone who wasnt in CW.  Dont ask my why, but that is what I thought for the longes time,  and at first, when I heard Green the Whole Year Round, didnt like it at all, but now I love it.   I didn't recognize her because she had dyed her hair again since the 1st DVD and to me, she looked completely different so I actually had no idea that it actually was her.  After I realized that it WAS her, I felt so stupid.  She has become one of my favorite CW now. (besides Lynn)

I agree completely.  I really do want all 9 of the girls to do a DVD and CD together too. That would be SOOO awesome!

Reading a lot of online concert-reviews I really get the idea that Alex doesn't get much appreciation of the american people :-\ I mean, I've never seen her life and find her completely amazing! in this preview-vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWwHHEaMKdk&feature=PlayList&p=596C67C85280B103&index=0, she is really doing her best, she is no Órla, but musicians should get their chance to proove themselves  :-\

I totally agree with you Mary. Alex and Lynn both have tough shoes to fill but I think they have done amazingly well! I have seen them in 3 concerts so far (the fourth in Nov) and they have both been absolutely wonderful. They have so much talent to be shared with us! I hope that we will begin to notice them for who they are and not for those whom we feel they could never replace. I think both Alex and Lynn are huge additions to the group and they still make me proud to say I am a fan. Hopefully as they perform more they will get the attention they deserve. It goes without saying I love Chloe, Lisa, and Mairead as well, they are all so ridiculously awesome! Anyway that too is my soapbox. I will just say this I love CW now as much as I did in the beginning!

I would choose Hayley, she's my favorite of all the former members, but I love them all.

By the way, is this based on their exposer to the group, people wanting them back? Only one person said Deirdre and she seems nice. At least the most popular answer was all of them. I do like the new members as well.

Yes, Deirdre took Méav's place on the first CW tour, while Méav was having her first baby.  There is some footage of Deirdre in the documentary portion of the TGJ DVD.  She has also toured with The Irish Tenors, Lord of the Dance, Frank McNamara's If You're Irish, the Canadian Tenors,  and Ragús.  She is a remarkable lady.  Not only is she a wonderful soprano with incredible stage presence, she is also one of the sweetest, warmest people you could ever meet.  We're anxiously awaiting news about her upcoming plans and schedule.  You can learn more about her by visiting her web site (http://Ragús).

Deirdre was the first CW lady I met and it was at the debut of " If You're Irish" in Chicago.  Once you hear this lady sing you are captured!!  I guess we can say that about any of the CW ladies, huh!  But meeting Deidre was  soooo special! She was as sweet and down to earth as she could be. It was like seeing an old friend and she made you feel like she was there just to meet you!!  A beautiful and extremely talented lady -- in all meanings of those words!!  Yea, Deirdre

my favourite of all of them is orla, i would love to see her return. but each of them brought something unique with them. as i love meav's and deirdre's voice, i have to put all of them but if pressed to name one, i would say orla

i like orla over both Alex and Lynn. So Orla should definitely come back because with Alex and Lynn the harmonization is totally gone. it disappeared when she left.  :'(.

I would love Meav and Orla to come back.  They were there since the whole thing got started.  They were both respectively the highest and lowest voices of the group.

Meav and Orla definitely. But especially Meav. I to had to vote all of them. Lynn and Alex are great in their own rights but some of the songs that either of the two have done to take the place of Meav and Orla just don't sound as good as they should. I guess it's just certain songs wind up being one person's song and you get accustomed to it being done that way. May also have to do with the way the song was composed for the voice that will be singing it. to me there are a couple of songs that just out right belong to Meav and noone else will ever be able to do them quite right. Just my point of view.

After seeing CW in Lubbock Lynn and Alex will definitely have the same thing happen there will be certain songs that won't be quite right without their voices.

I was a bit of a late starter. I only discovered CW this past summer, so Meav and Orlagh had already left (I had no idea) I pretty much just stuck to watching ANJ DVD videos on youtube and such and watching PBS, and I just became so accustomed to Meav and Orla as a part of the group. I admit to not even knowing Deirdre, Alex or Lynn ever existed (  :-\ ) I guess that's because Deirdre never did any DVD work with the girls, and SFTH is the first time Lynn and Alex have been featured on a DVD.
  So, when I heard of Deirdre, Lynn and Alex I was just like, "Who?" I only learned more about them AFTER I joined the forums... :-[ I hope this isn't making me sound like I'm partial to Lynn and Alex joining the group! 'Cause I'm not! I absolutely love them and think that they are both a wonderful addition! :D
  But, gosh, I've fallen so in love with both Meav and Orlagh's voices; it's really hard for me to imagine them ever having left. To me, that's like having Lisa, or Chloe, or Mairead (GOD FORBID) leaving!  :o
  I voted for Meav, simply because she spoke(sang ;)) volumes in Danny Boy and The Last Rose of Summer in ANJ. I don't know why I'm drawn to Meav as a vocalist; there's just something impossibly pure and clear to her voice, it's hard not to stop and listen whenever she sings. It's just a beautiful sound.
  If we were permitted to vote for two girls, Orlagh would be my next pick, hands down! I agree with a VERY early post that I read when sifting through this topic that "Celtic Woman lost a bit of it's Irishness" when she left. (I forget the poster of that comment, sorry! lol!) Again, Orlagh leaving is like having one of the other original girls leave; it just doesn't work in your head when someone is missing, you know?

That being said...Meav and/or Orlagh...if you ever read this...

I couldn't agree more with you Bill  :) We'll miss Méav and Órla, (I surely do, see my signature.. :D) but Alex and Lynn have proven that they more than deserve their places... Lynn is a Irish Star, but I feel more connected with Alex dynamic voice.

Only so many people, especially on youtube wouldn't give them a CHANCE  :-\ It makes me so upset. If I read comments like: 'Lisa and Chloë are beautiful, the new ladies aren't' than I want to hit that person so much. They should look a lot better to the ladies.. If you don't want to give a Celtic Woman a chance, than go wonder- oh, whatever. It's clear  :D

And if Órla never would have left.. no Distant Shore  :o And Méav will come with an new album I guess, if her daughter Catherine has more grown?  :D

All of the ladies brought something unique to the group and they all did a wonderful job.  In my opinion, Lynn can stay right where she is in the group because I've fallen completely in love with her voice. 

I'd like to see Orla come back to the group.  That would be wonderful! 

Órla's break was always permament..She never had intentions to return.

I'd love to have Órla and Méav back.. But I'm more excited about an eventual new celtic lady  :)

Orla would be my choice because when she sings u cant help but picture Ireland in its full beauty although im assuming its already beautiful. But Orla really brings more beauty to Ireland than Alex and Lynn do. A few weeks (i think it was) after i found out Orla left Cw i went and laid in my bed and cried because i was so heartbroken. I was mad at Orla for leaving but then i came to realize that that was Orla's decision and i was just going to have to live with it. To this day im still as heart broken as i was when i found out. And the  part of Orla leaving that kinda still gets me mad is that she made the decision i think one or two days after my 14th b-day. (im 15 now btw)  And i think me getting sick last summer on her birthday was revenge for her leaving. jk it wasnt. I hope one day Orla will change her mind (i pray she will) and come back.   

she told me that she would be leaving temporary. She probably said that because she knew if she told me she wasn't returning I would fill her car with shaving cream ;)

I'm not a moderator so do what you want everyone, but is it possible to say who you would like to come back and why without putting down the other girls? I feel like some of the comments are getting pretty rude. Especially toward Lynn and Alex. These girls have each done a beautiful job with the group. They weren't brought in to be Meav and Orlagh clones. The beauty of Celtic Woman is that each performer is a complete individual. Sorry for the rant...

I totally agree with you.  Don't think of Lynn and Alex as replacements--rather, as additions: they both brought their own unique aspects to the show. I miss Orla and Meav dearly but I'm super happy that I got to see Lynn and Alex perform;  I've fallen in love with both of them, especially Lynn.  They're both outstanding performers and are incredibly talented and sweet.  

One more thing I'd like to point out: If you put any of the ladies down, you're kind of putting David Downes down in a way too.  He was the one who selected them to be a part of the group after all.  The moderators also have noted a few times that the girls do read these forums from time to time, how do you think they'd feel if they were to come across something negative?  Please keep that in mind.  Okay, my rant is done too. :P

Until earlier today, this thread had been dead for 8 months so it wasn't so much of an issue. We do understand that when a girl leaves the group, especially if it's your favorite girl, it causes great emotional upheaval. All that being said, we do moderate comments that we feel are disrespectful to the girls and we encourage everyone to remember that the girls do read the forum so it's always a good idea to keep that in mind when you post.

I want them all back to CW, but I know it is only a dream, a beautiful dream that will not come true. ;(

My first contact with the Celtic Woman was the current Songs from the Heart lineup.After I loved it so much I went back and bought all the previous DVD's.I can honestly say I prefer the current lineup best.Maybe the production and all seems more polished than the former DVD's.This is just my personal opinion.

Miss Alex Sharpe..and we miss her so much and would have appreciated her even more when talking with her if we had known her days were numbered...but I would like to see them ALL taking guest shots whenever and where ever it would be possible...the fans would go nuts....and still I have read some fans are looking forward to what

Even though I would want Alex back but, I actually have been getting into her first cd on my ipod and I think, I would love to get a chance to hear her live!  Even maybe if it is one of her solo concerts> I don't know I think I would be interested in hearing her live. She actually left four months before my first show (hence seeing alex 2x) but, i kinda wanting to hear Ms. Orla!  Ah there always another time!

o/t No, she doesn't. She does however sing in the soundtrack of The Beautiful Game. The songs where you can hear her are "Don't Like You (reprise)" and "Let Us Love in Peace (reprise)". Both are great songs and she sings so beautifully.

She has said that she'd eventually like to do a solo cd, so we'll just have to wait and see!!

Well, it looks like our wish of Alex making a Solo CD is going to come true in 2011! hopefully she gives us updates about how it is going soon  :) :)

Although the obvious answer is "All of them!", ten voices is a choir.  There would be no practical way to stay with the "everyone gets at least one solo" policy.  Bringing back two would restore the Slane Castle maximum configuration.  I'd opt for Orlagh (for her alto voice and her harp) and gorgeous, glorious Meav.  It won't happen, of course, for the same reason that we will probably never again see big outdoor productions like A New Journey and Songs From the Heart.

Why would we never see outdoor productions again? Its always an option. I do think though that they prefer indoors without the weather jeopardy factor.

I saw her at my very first CW show in 2010, and I miss her now..

It's funny, but I was so bummed when Meav left I just decided I wasn't going to like Alex before I ever saw her, just b/c she wasn't Meav - but then fell so in love with her, I practically cried when she left, too. There isn't anyone I wouldn't want back. They all brought something amazing to the group in their own way. Miss all of the ones who are gone.  :'(
