The pictures I linked on Forums from Facebook suddenly expire and the file names were random so it's really difficult to find what the original pic was to re-link it.

NOT cool, Facebook.

NOT cool, Facebook.

Just as sort of a follow-up to this, it looks like I've posted over 300 Facebook-linked pics across at least 8 forums which are time-bombed. Some already expired, some not.

Oh this is going to hurt to fix all these...

Except in rare cases where I posted the link to the Facebook post itself (which is not time-bombed), I have no way to figure out which post it came from. So I have to guess based on the content and the date I posted it what the pic was and where it came from. I can then compare the expired link to the new one to confirm it's the same picture. THEN, I can either link the new one (which will time-bomb again in a couple of months) or find an alternative one on Twitter (which hopefully doesn't expire) or upload it to a separate site (some copyright issues in that, but if it doesn't exist elsewhere other than Facebook...).

I'm sorry Sarah.

I worked midnights for so long I sort of blocked it out mentally. I thought about ear plugs, but earplugs just didn't seem adequate to block the thunderous vibration of subwoofers or hammers literally pounding on the ceiling incessantly. Plus there are some things I'd actually want to wake me up if necessary...

I suppose there's a number of other ways to deal with it that come down to personal preference and the people making the noise. People react differently to being confronted. I trust your judgement.

Firstly, I wonder if they're aware of the problem. Some people really aren't conscious of how loud they actually are.

Secondly, do they know it's bothering you? If they're nice, they'd make an effort to keep it down. If they know it bothers you but they just don't care, it's unfortunate there are people like that.

I'd suggest discussing it with some of other people on the same floor and above/below. If you need to make a case against them, it will help if others feel the same way and can support you.

Depending on how you feel they'd respond to being confronted about it, there are a few different ways to handle that too. An alternative to going right up to them would be to leave a note on their door. Leave the note facing towards the door rather than outwards (it helps give the impression it's just for them rather than to embarrass them or make a statement to the rest of the floor).

I've been in customer support for long enough to know the way that things are said can make a huge difference. For example, if I went up to someone and said "Shut up! You're being loud and annoying" it might be true, but it will also likely make that person defensive. When people get defensive they're less likely to respond positively to feedback and it could even make it worse. I like easing people into the feedback that's coming so that they process the message instead of getting upset or offended about it. For example "sorry to bother you, but I've been having trouble sleeping and if you could please keep it down a little, I'd really appreciate it Smiley"

... That said, the culture here is a bit different so what might work well here may work less well elsewhere.

If it's your first time telling them it's bugging you, I'd avoid making any sort of threats about taking to the superintendents or the police, since that would have a polarizing effect: it will either scare them into stopping or will make them upset and they'll be less willing to listen to reason. It would also be best to avoid an "eye for an eye" approach (ie. being loud to try to irritate them or demonstrate how it bothers you): if you need to make a complaint against them, you're in a stronger position if they have no counter-claim against you.

Should that approach be inadequate, the superintendent should be asked to intervene. If the superintendent can't control the situation, the police would be a last resort, although I've personally never had to go that route.

I hope some of this helps.

Good luck, Sarah.

Oh gosh. That's horrible.

It's so sad that there are people like that: rude and likely unconcerned about consequences (especially when they get drunk). Challenging to confront those types of people too because they don't want to change  be reasoned with. And they might be even more obnoxious to try to get to you

Is there anyone in your building you could talk to that would support you?

Definitely don't pay attention to them trying to make fun of you. You're a WAY better person than them. Be proud of yourself.

I got made fun of a lot when I was younger. It could have been WAY worse than it was, but I let it get to me and it destroyed me socially. That wasn't the only thing bringing me down but it was part of it and I was miserable for a really long time.

I know it's easier said than done, but don't let them get to you. Be strong and believe in yourself no matter what.

For sleep, you could try ear plugs I suppose. It won't block everything, but it could help. I've always had trouble sleeping because of stress so I'm afraid I don't have a lot of advice about that, but perhaps some other people have suggestions for you.

Hopefully some of this will be useful for you. I'm not always the best at giving advice, but I'm happy to listen.  Smiley

I hate it when I have a random onset of anxiety that just doesn't want to subside. This one is particularly nasty. Pretty much can't do anything at the moment. Yay!

I suppose if it's going to happen, better now than in April when I get to see Celtic Woman twice and Lisa Kelly, huh?

I hate it when people trash the new girls or say "it's just not the same."

Honestly, I get that people LOVED the original 5 ladies. So do I.

I get that it's different, but I don't love it any less.

I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't appreciate the girls we have now.

Agreed  Tom...   and  to  punctuate  this sentiment,  one  of  our  wonderful  originals ( Sweet  Lady  Meav)    has  a  lot  of  say  in  how  our  current  gals  sound  as  well.   Any  criticism  of  them  is  a  criticism of  Meav herself. And  there  is  not  anyone  I  know  of  who  is  qualified  to  do  that.    Shocked
