SAGINAW, MI – In the home stretch of the Celtic Woman’s Emerald Tour, Susan McFadden called from Peoria, Illinois, to talk about the show coming Saturday, May 10, to The Dow Event Center.
And that’s a good sign if the old vaudevillian adage holds true about anything that plays Peoria playing well anywhere.
“I haven’t heard that one,” said McFadden, the Dublin native’s Irish lilt growing stronger as she talked.
But good things are in store for those who catch the 7:30 p.m. show at Heritage Theatre, even if you saw them the last time they came through Saginaw. Tickets, on sale at the box office at 303 Johnson and through Ticketmaster, cost $101, $61 and $41.
The old is brand new again, she said, as Emmy Award-winning music producer David Downes of “Riverdance” fame puts fresh arrangements on the time-tested mainstays of Celtic music. And he surrounds Irish vocalists McFadden, Lynn Hilary and Mairead Carlin and violinist Mairead Nesbitt with a live band, a choir, dancers, bagpipers and more.
Do the dancers really take to the aisles during the show?
“It’s true, they do, but you really have to come and see it for yourself,” McFadden said. “You won’t believe how much this has evolved in the past few years. I’ve only been here for two years and it’s changed in that time.”
With new versions of songs everyone remembers, “it’s the most energetic show we’ve ever done,” she said. “We’ve put a lot of time and work into it; it’s a true team effort.”
What remains the same, along with founding member Mairead Nesbitt, is Celtic Woman’s international popularity. Its albums go multiplatinum and the group remains one of the most successful on Billboard magazine’s World Music charts.
