A New Journey is visually more fun and exciting to see, especially with Hayley added in. Anyone who didn't get to a concert in which she was performing will only have this one DVD to get her distinct and beautiful voice added in to the CW mix and Hayley really left her mark with her rendtion of songs like 'Scarborough Fair' and her duet with Meav on Last Rose of Summer. So I would agree as far as going with that one for a first-time CW viewing.
Personally, for me, I still really love the Helix dvd just as much as ANJ in part because it is more simplistic and it does not come off nearly quite so 'produced' or 'packaged'. I don't mean that how they did ANJ was bad or wrong by any stretch.....I guess it's just that it comes off a little more simpler, yet still powerful and beautiful. And there is a small bit of nostalgia with the Helix dvd. Those of us who saw CW concerts in the very early going remember that big circular screen you see on the Helix concert dvd upon which beautiful video shots of Ireland --especially the rugged coastline-- would be projected in between songs or during the instrumental portions of songs. I guess in a way it's almost like the first time you fell in love....you always remember how you felt, where you were or what that special someone said or did that made you feel like you were walking on air. For me, in part, that's why I still love the Helix dvd as much as ANJ. There are so many great songs such as Harry's Game and Siuil a Run and the Ashoken Farewell/Contradiction.....the vocal versatility of the girls really, to me, seems to come through a little better than on ANJ, with such gorgeous classical pieces like Nella Fantasia and Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring to contrast with the more upbeat and exciting pieces like The Butterfly (which I suppose for us Mairead fans was the first glimpse of the fact that mankin-, er, womankind, can indeed fly after all
...as a basketball junkie, I never thought I'd say this, but "eat your heart out Michael Jordan!" lol )
All that said though, I do still very much love ANJ, and I would heartily agree that some songs, such as The Voice and The Blessing are absolutely required listening for anybody who claims they're a fan of CW.
Just my two cents, for what it's worth.
