I made arrangements back in May to plan a trip to Japan. This trip is not out of the ordinary. A few people on this forum may recall my Photography thread I made last year with pictures of my girlfriend at the time. Well, she broke my heart sadly saying she didn't love me anymore. I recovered, but to fast forward to December 2013 and towards now, I met a girl online on a dating website.

Everyone (either on here, my family/relatives, and my friends) is probably thinking, "OH! Be super careful!!" Oh, I have been careful and this girl is harmless. She is super sweet, kind, and has shown me that she does truly care about me. We have been talking since I first met her in December of 2013, but I didn't become acquainted with her until last May when we started to talk more to each other and added one another onto Facebook. She surprised me with my birthday last year by sending me a birthday card (it actually arrived right on my birthday, too!) as well as a white coffee mug that has a red heart on the side; you pour hot liquid into it and the heart says "YOU" in the middle of it. So we've also sent some gifts in the mail. I sent her a ton of small presents for Christmas last year (they don't have Bath & Body Works in Japan), and she gave me some presents, too; my dog recently destroyed the cute Christmas card she sent me, and I'll never forgive him for it lol

My girlfriend's name is Nhat Khanh Dam (pronounced in this order as their first name is actually in the middle of her name; Khang Nyet Dam; her brother's name is Phuc Dam, but it's pronounced Fuuk  Roll Eyes), but she's not Japanese. She's Vietnamese. However she goes by her baptismal name "Anna," so I call her that (both her and I are Catholic). She came from Vietnam to go to college in Japan and she just graduated this past March. She's quite beautiful, too. I will be flying to meet her on August 22nd through the 29th. She lives in a historical city called Matsuyama. We will sightsee a day there (go to a zoo then the hot spring for a relaxing night), then go to a neighboring town the next day. She booked a domestic flight and a hotel in Osaka, so we are then traveling there. From Osaka, we go to Kyoto for a day (I REALLY want to see the shrines and temples, as well as the gardens, there in that city) then back in Osaka for two days. One day in Osaka we will go to the aquarium there (largest in the world; has whale sharks) and then the next we will be at Universal Studios Japan. Sadly I then have to go home the next day  Cry

Good news is that I don't have to wait long to see her again after that. She will have some free time off in March of next year, so she will come here for a visit by staying with my parents and myself. Then in August, I'm going to visit her and her family in Vietnam.

I'm going to love it there in Japan. It's one of the places on my bucket list. She's a sweet girl and has treated me well. She has been the only girl who has ever given me gifts whom I've dated. Seriously. No one before her has ever given me things.

EDIT: Oh! I forgot to mention that I will be taking a ton of pictures while I'm there in Japan! I'll upload them to this thread to show my trip Huh?

How do you think her English language sounds?

She speaks English very well. Since I talk fast, I have to slow down when speaking to her. Her voice is very kind and gentle. She can understand me very well, too, and if she doesn't understand a complicated word, I have to explain it to her. Such words like a brand of an item or something, I have to give details and pronounce it for her. My parents have already talked to her on Skype and they think she's a sweetheart. They think she's a great match for me, however they are worried about the flight over there to Japan. You know, with all the past problems with the airlines that we've had in the past few years (missing planes, like the Malaysia flights), they are worried something could come up like that. I'm not worried. The only thing I worry about on the trip over there is that (since I live in NC), the flight from Charlotte's airport to Detroit's airport. I only have a 50 minute layover in Detroit from the terminal from Charlotte to the terminal to Nagoya (I think that's the one? I have my flight schedule printed out so I'll carry it with me). The flight from Detroit to Nagoya is like 19 hours, though! When I arrive at the airport in Nagoya, I have a 4 hour and 15 minute layover there before the flight to Matsuyama.

Overall, I think it will be a great trip and a good learning experience for me. I trust her and I know that I will be safe with her. I will use her iPhone's hotspot with my iPhone's WiFi so I can keep in touch with my parents and give them updates, as well as updating on Facebook how the trip goes.

My friend from church was just there in Japan (Kyoto and Tokyo), and went by himself (his wife stayed back here in town, so he went on a fun trip by himself; I think she couldn't get time off, but he did get her a lot of gifts from Japan!), and he had a blast. I think I will have a great time as well! Smiley

I've Skyped with her many times. She has been busy with her job being a teacher at the moment, but I will be Skype videoing with Anna on Saturday night when I'm visiting my sister and her boyfriend for my birthday (my sister made me an ice cream cake since she works at an ice cream store). My sister and her boyfriend will get to see and talk to Anna. Anna, like me, preferred my sister to have longer hair, but my sister chopped it all off Sad My sister was going to go with me on the trip to Japan, but only stay with me on the airplane to keep me company; my sister would part ways once we were at the last destination at the airport (Matsuyama) and would go off and go around Japan on her own (she's been to both Turkey and Greece, but with her college class).

I know that Anna has no hidden motives. She's a sweetheart and has told me that she will never hurt me, and I would never hurt her. I look forward to spending time with her, and I will update this thread later on with pictures of Japan after my trip Smiley

I actually got to Skype with her on Friday instead, as I would have been busy on Saturday; plus I was visiting my sister at Asheville, NC on Saturday, and the hotel we stayed at did not have WiFi access in the rooms (I only brought my iPad Air 2 LTE with me, but did not want to use Skype on cellular as I have a limit of 2GB a month), but had Ethernet service. She was wearing the hair barrette I bought her that is white flowers in her hair. She also got to talk to my parents as well, and got to see my dog Oscar. She was excited to see me on Skype, too. She was in her roommate's room in her apartment as her own room did not have good air flow in it. So she had a fan going on and had to speak over it because it was so loud lol

In case anyone is interested in wanting to know of the city of Matsuyama in Japan, here's some info on it! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsuyama,_Ehime

This is the college she graduated from. She graduated with a bachelor's in Marine Environment Studies, and did research on sea urchins and the different species that lived near the ocean in her city (she lives near the Seto Inland Sea; I watched an anime that is based in that area, called My Bride Is a Mermaid; look it up, that anime is hysterical!!). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehime_University Here's the university's English page, too. http://www.ehime-u.ac.jp/english/index.html

I wish I was Japanese and went there Sad They actually have an agricultural department there. See with Japan, they really care about the nature of their country, and want to preserve it. That kind of philosophy is what I have for here where I live Sad

I will only be in Matsuyama, possibly Kobe, Kyoto, and Osaka on this trip. I'd love to go there to the Eorzean Café, but it's in Tokyo. I will be pressed for time on this trip as I will only have 5 days there in Japan. I should have gotten the Friday off work and left that day and I would have arrived in Japan on Saturday their time Sad Then I would have had 6 days there in Japan, and I could have gone to church with my girlfriend and hear a Catholic mass in Japanese!

Oh you did? I made it to Japan safely. Anna is a very sweet girl! I did make a good choice in meeting her. We went around Matsuyama today. We saw Jurassic World (English with Japanese subtitles), then went to go look around for a place to eat. I'm a picky eater, but I did eat fish with rice and vegetable soup (I dislike a lot of vegetables), and it was really great! We then did karaoke for a good while. Now I am back at her apartment and she's cooking dinner with her roommate.

Kyoto and Universal Studios Japan ROCKED! I loved Kyoto, but the funny thing about it is that I thought all the shrines and temples would be in one central area. But no, they are sporadically placed in the city. You have to take a city bus between places. It's not a big deal once you get a 1-day bus pass, but it is a big deal as there were traffic problems. Universal Studios was awesome. One of my favorite rides was Space Fantasy, which is ONLY in Japan and not the US. Anna loved it, and we agreed that it was the best one. We waited THREE hours to go on the 4D Harry Potter ride, and it was worth it. All of the characters from Harry Potter were speaking in Japanese LOL, it was funny!! Dumbledore sounded like a samurai warrior, and Harry himself sounded like he was from an anime. Same with Hermione and Ron. I did get the Elder Wand there at the park. It cost 3,800 yen. I'll modify this message to include a picture of Anna and I.

We also went to the Osaka Aquarium, and ironically, it is THE aquarium to go to! In fact, the aquarium in the Nintendo Wii game Endless Ocean: Blue World IS the Osaka Aquarium!! It features a ton of different ecosystems and animals. It has Pacific White-sided Dolphins, seals/sea lions, sharks (including the Whale Shark), stingrays, fish, otters, and more. They even have the angelic Sea Angels, which are a type of Arctic (or was it Antarctic?) marine snail that angelically flaps its membranes that look like angel wings.
