This won't be as spectacular and long-winded as I had originally planned, but here's the Coles Notes version of what I was planning to say for this special occasion.
What A New Journey Has Meant to Me
10 years ago, on August 23-24, 2006, Celtic Woman recorded A New Journey at Slane Castle in Ireland. I'm sure it was cold (and damp) as one might expect for an August in Ireland. But the performances that our ladies and their entire supporting cast and crew gave those two nights has warmed my heart from the first time I saw it as it will continue to for the rest of my life.
A New Journey has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life. It has made me happy when nothing else could.
Thank you to everyone involved in the production, both on stage and behind the scenes. And thank you PBS for bringing Celtic Woman to life in North America and in turn, all over the world.
Everything about the production exuded quality.
Slane Castle was a spectacular setting! The set, complimented by exceptional lighting, blended wonderfully into the backdrop of the castle.
The dresses were stunning and the ladies looked absolutely gorgeous.
What made A New Journey truly special was, of course, the music. David Downes led a great band, a full orchestra, an exceptional choir, 5 phenomenal singers, and 1 incomparable fiddler. The arrangements ranged from tender to epic. Every single song was amazing!
Most of all, I want to thank the girls: Chloë Agnew, Orla Fallon, Lisa Kelly, Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, Mairead Nesbitt, and Hayley Westenra. You women are models of grace, kindness, and beauty and you are among the most talented musicians and wonderful people I will ever know. This world would be a much better place if there were more people like you in it.
Next to the original Celtic Woman show at the Helix, A New Journey was the most special concert I have ever seen and the music, some of the most beautiful arrangements I will ever hear. It's meant so much to me and I'm sure it's mean the world to so many of you as well.
Happy 10th Anniversary, Celtic Woman: A New Journey!
Thank you for for being with us during our journey ... for enriching us, inspiring us, raising us up when we were down, and for changing our lives.
