Happy St. Patrick's Day!

This day is extra special for me, now and forever.

Today is the 1st anniversary of my first Celtic Woman concert, the Destiny tour on St. Patrick's Day in Detroit.

I still can't believe it took me almost 12 years to see the group I care more about than any other in the world. I was sooooo excited to finally see them after all those years of regretfully missed tours (and a bunch of the specials as well).

Suffice it to say 2015 prior to that PBS special really rough. For a while I wasn't even following them anymore.  I didn't even know they had done a new PBS special until I just stumbled across it in the TV listings and tuned in 8 minutes after it started.

I absolutely loved it, particularly "My Land" and "Westering Home." I probably played those songs on YouTube about a hundred times before the album released in Canada.  Cheesy

But I still almost didn't go to see the Destiny tour. I just wasn't in the state of mind where I wanted to do anything. I'm so glad I ultimately decided to go. It was definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made.

The Destiny tour was everything I dreamed of and more. In contrast to many of the pop concerts these days, Celtic Woman sounded even better live! The Destiny concert was also extra special because it was the one and only time I got to see Mairead Nesbitt live with Celtic Woman.

That concert (and the PBS special that inspired me to go) had a profound impact on me. While I've loved their music for quite a while, Destiny made me realize just how important they were to me.

Not everybody liked Destiny. I read some things that deeply offended me as a fan and as a person. It inspired me to defend them and in doing so, I felt like I had something to care about for the first time in a long time.

They've touched a lot of people over the years.

On St. Patrick's Day, I won't be going out to party, participate in celebratory shenanigans, or engage in excessive drinking. I'm not the partying type. Instead, I'll celebrate with Destiny and reflect on just how much this group and their beautiful music means to me.

Happy Anniversary! <3
