I did actually talk to Meav in the snow after Carnegie Hall 2010, Hayley in the rain in 2005, and briefly bumped into Susan at the stage door in 2014.  So far no random encounters in the street of CW soloists, but I did run into two of the Chicago Fire actors randomly.

I've no doubt it gets done. Maybe they don't mind. Heck, maybe they even appreciate it MORE when people wait for them in nasty weather.

I just can't bring myself to do it at this particular point.

I'll say this:

I tried to meet them last night Stage and Greet style. I REALLY tried.

I first waited at the stage exit inside the building where the crew was coming out. I got to meet Ray. Smiley

I waited a bit longer until security told me to get out. So then I went outside and waited by the marked stage exit only to find people were coming out of a different exit.

So then I waited by the buses, but all three of them were close together and it took a while to figure out where people were actually coming out of the theatre to get to the busses: turns out, at least 2 different exits. I couldn't watch both exits at once and couldn't watch either of the exits and tour buses at the same time. Lastly, the busses were so close together and oriented in such a way that only one tour bus could really be observed at the same time.

So I basically had to stand in front of the buses pacing back and forth.

I felt really uncomfortable doing it, but I kept at it. People looked at me suspiciously (and rightly they should have), but nobody came and told me to leave.

I think I saw Eabha got on one of the buses, but she got on the bus really fast. From my vantage point at the time, I basically only had a split second to see her before she got on the bus. Not enough time. So then I stood in front of that bus on the door site (the theory being the other girls would probably be on the same bus). I waited about 45 minutes (at least an hour after the end of the show), but I didn't see any of the other girls get on. Maybe they already were on the bus at that point. Maybe still in the venue.

It was really cold (technically about 38 F, but with a strong wind a windchill well below freezing), so I eventually had to bail.

The moral of the story is that depending on the venue, their security, location of the stage door(s), proximity / orientation of the tour buses relative to the exits, and comfort level with basically standing awkwardly in front of the tour buses for an extended period, Stage and Greets are really, REALLY hard.

I'm not sure I'll try that again unless I somehow were able to arrange something with the girls in advance or knew someone at the venue that could provide a significant amount of assistance in facilitating it.

It's unfortunate I didn't get to meet the girls (again), but I really enjoyed the show.

I'll post a bit more about it when I get home tonight.

The way I see, as much it sucked standing out awkwardly in the cold for about 45 minutes, afraid of confronted by security or making the other people on the buses feel uncomfortable, if I had met the girls, it all would have been worth it. Just because I didn't meet them didn't make the effort any less justified (there just wasn't a payoff in this particular case).

The good news is I have a second show with an actual M+G in a couple of weeks. So I will meet the girls (briefly). I just have to wait a little longer. I'll put everything I wanted to say in the cards I made for them (assuming the custom cards arrive in time), but I soooo wanted to tell them how much they meant to me in person. I can't say I didn't try. Wink

As has been discussed before, your chances of meeting someone as they are getting on the bus is slim to none.  Keep in mind that they are probably tired.  I tend to think most of the shows have a M&G before the show, so at some point the girls are being pushed NOT to stop and see anyone.  It diminishes the "value" of the M&G being sold by PBS.

When I went to the show in Tampa this year, one of the buses was actually parked in the loading bay so you couldn't see anyone getting on it.

Having said that, there have been some venues (Cincinnati) where the buses are parked out on the street and they actually had a rope line you could stand behind.  Mairead N was always pretty good at stopping to see fans, as was Chloe and Lisa L.  The others, not so much.

The "bus and greet" certainly depends on the venue. With R.I. being small, things are more compact so our theater in downtown Providence has NO parking lot. There are several you can use, privately owned that you pay a fee. I use the large parking garage across the street from PPAC and pay the $20 but it`s worth the convenience. The tour buses park on a side street next to the theater and the crew, troupe and girls have to come out a back stage door , walk up Richmond St. to get to the busses. When they come out, everyone is very gracious and I make an effort to let them know how much I enjoyed the show. Anthony the Piper came out, saw a handfull of us waiting, smiled and said "they`ll be out shortly". I told him "EXCELLENT SHOW!" and he thanked me. I also told the AWESOME female drummer how great she was...another smile and "thankyou" Then Susan came out, signed a girls program and I told her how much I enjoyed the show, and asked if I could take a photo using a flash camera. She said "sure" and I said " I hope the flash doesn`t blind you" but she chatted with us. Next, the other 3 came out, signed autographs and posed for pics. I told Mairead how much I loved her version of Dulamon and she said "I`ve been working hard on it" . I showed her my "Got Mairead?" shirt and she threw her head back, went "AAAAHHH!" and pointed at it. Eabha was very nice and chatted and Tara is very personable and willing to take a moment to chat. I told her "you look like you`re having fun on stage" and she said "I`m very lucky to be doing this" I also told her how much I enjoyed her playing and that she`s a great addition to the group. A lady said to her "I`ve been coming to the shows for 10 years...you were probably in kindergarten when I started coming"...she rolled her eyes "Oh, I`m NOT that young". Providence is a great place to see the shows and the perfect venue to interact with CW and crew. EVERY one of them was accomodating and gracious.

Sounds like you had a great "stage door" M&G.  I'm glad the girls were so responsive.

I'm told the Meet and Greets are very rushed (30-60 seconds total). So for someone like me who has about 12 years worth of things to say to them and things to thank them for, it's a bit much to pack into a few words. Wink If you really want to talk to the girls, the stage door is apparently the way to go.

The purpose is to MEET and CHAT with the Celtic Women for a few minutes. They VERY gracious and will sign autographs, pose for pictures and you can interact with them about the show. It`s also pretty neat to see them in "regular" street attire. Granted, they`re likely tired after the show but they seem perfectly willing to chat with fans for a few minutes. It`s a highlight of the evening to talk with them one on one for a few minutes.

Since 2008, I've had the pleasure of attending close to 80 Celtic Woman Concerts.  I started doing Meet & Greets a couple of years later, and have done about 20.  All of the Meet & Greets I've participated in have been essentially photo opportunities with all four Ladies.  While the Ladies are always friendly and very gracious, very few Meet & Greets have afforded any meaningful discussions beyond "Hi and Goodbye", which is annoying because I usually bring gifts to express my appreciation for all the enjoyment their concerts and music have given me over the years.  It appears that now, however, gift giving at Meet & Greets is being discouraged or possibly prohibited.  For example, I brought Vermont maple syrup to give the Ladies at the Meet & Greet before the Concert in Manchester, NH.   (As has been my practice, I also brought syrup for the band , choir, and crew, as well as for Sett, Aimee, and the Merchdude.)  The venue staff confiscated the syrup at the door, and told me that Celtic Woman management no longer allowed gift giving during Meet & Greets, but that they'd get the syrup to the Ladies during the Concert.  I asked Sett before the Meet & Greet about the new gift giving policy, and he said he knew nothing about it.  In any event, I went to the Meet & Greet without the Ladies' annual ration of Vermont maple syrup; I  hope they got it before leaving the venue.  I guess my bottom line concern is that if Celtic Woman management is now discouraging/prohibiting gift giving at Meet & Greets, it should let the fans know through its website or the myriad of social media platforms it uses.

Moreover, because Meet & Greets have grown less and less satisfying for me, this may be the last year I do them.

That is surprising.

Thanks for sharing.

I think I should be ok tomorrow given that my gift consists of cards (and a second part that explained in the cards). They don't take up a lot of space but took a lot of work. I can't hang around after the show due to an early flight the next morning, so I really hope I can give it to them at the M+G.

I'm inclined to believe that was a misinterpretation by event staff in Vermont, but we may get a better idea as more of us attend the M+Gs this year.

I really wish the M+Gs would be a bit longer than 30 seconds. Five minutes would be more reasonable while still allowing for ticket volume. I get that lots of people want to see them and more tickets = more money for PBS. Maybe there should be two different types of M+Gs:

1. "Photo Op" passes. Quick 30-60 second ones. Cheaper.
2. "Chat" passes. 5 minutes. Photo op + extra time to talk.

I know 5 minutes wouldn't be nearly enough for a lot of people, but at least it gives you some time to talk. They could still achieve volume with the Photo Op passes and have a more limited number of Chat passes. I dunno, just an idea.

As established in one of the threads on the forum, Stage and Greets are great for people that are really assertive or that attend a large volume of shows each tour. There's an art involved and a lot of luck.

I think for a lot of us, these ladies are different than most of the other artists out there. They've had a profound impact on our lives and I think we deserve and THEY deserve more than a 30 second "hi" session.

At my 1st M&G with Mairead N. & Chloe, I asked Mairead if she used energy drinks to help her perform.  She said no. Wink

I should have asked her if Energizer had been in touch with her about a sponsorship deal.
