Chloë's version of Nella Fantasia has been my favourite version of the song for a while.
Today, she got some company at the top.
Deirdre Shannon performed this cover of Nella Fantasia with The Celtic Tenors and my goodness is it ever breathtakingly beautiful.
https://www.facebook.com/TheCelticTenors/videos/1433045370108164/The harmony was excellent. The contrast between vocal ranges, along with Deirdre's powerful voice, really allowed her to shine in this song.
It reminded me of the way Meav exercised the full power of her voice during Home for Christmas, singing above two incredible voices in Lisa Lambe and Susan McFadden.
It also reminded me of the way that Ximena Borges blew the roof off the building during the finale of Rocktopia, Ode to Joy. That was darn-near the most awesome thing I've ever heard in my life! The other Rocktopia singers had REALLY strong voices and Ximena sang over top of all of them, an electric guitar, a choir, and an orchestra.
It's pretty heard (perhaps impossible) to beat Chloë's gorgeous voice during Nella Fantasia at the original Helix show, but this cover by Deirdre and The Celtic Tenors comes as close as anyone but Celtic Woman could.
