The lyrics are so beautiful!
And I really hope someone posts it on YouTube too!
They definitely are.
I'm pretty conflicted about commercially available songs getting posted on YouTube, especially if it's not the artist posting it.
Putting music on YouTube has a lot of benefits:
- Super-convenient
- Super-free
- Helps artists get their names out there
But the problem is if someone posts a song on YouTube that another artist created, that artist is pretty much guaranteed no royalties from that video.
I want people to hear and enjoy Chloë's music. But as much as Chloë makes music because she loves it and because it makes other people happy, she's also doing it to make a living.
Fortunately, Chloë's song is available in full on Spotify, which supposedly generates revenue (even if it's a very small amount per play) in the form of royalties. Now granted it's not particularly easy to find on there given that you get a lot of hits for "Like an Angel" and there are a few different Chloë artist accounts on there (the one it's filed under has a song that's from a different Chloe, lol).
Anyways, here's the Spotify link for anyone that wants to listen to it online:
https://open.spotify.com/track/7kP3OHFLiUJfeI6d1Oi1cYBack to an earlier point about getting her name out there: sure, a few new fans might discover her because of YouTube and that's good. But the only way YouTube is going to be profitable for Chloë if the song goes viral. I think we can all agree it's amazing, but that just isn't enough to make a video get circulated all over the place.
Instead, I think most of her revenue is going to come from existing fans UNLESS the song goes mainstream on the radio.
I'm really trying to get some local stations to play it, but that alone isn't going to be enough. If you like the song, PLEASE ask your local radio stations to play it. Even if a few of them pick it up for starters, it could get the ball rolling and make a huge difference for her.
Thanks for reading my rant folks.
