Hi everyone!
My name is Tom.
I'm not exactly sure when I first listened to Celtic Woman, but my best guess is the summer of 2005. I remember seeing the promos for the first show on PBS and was interested, but I somehow managed to miss it when it was originally on.
That summer I believe, I was looking up Enya's "May It Be" and happened across Lisa Kelly singing that song. Needless to say I was amazed!
Although I've loved their music for a while, I'm ashamed to say I didn't always follow the group closely over the years. I didn't watch PBS much and I wasn't into social media much back then. Also, I didn't know anyone else at the time that liked the group. Because they were never on the radio in Canada, they regrettably slipped my mind for a while. So I ended up missing some of the specials along the way.
But every now and then, there were reminders of just how good they were. Many times, I looked up a song and found a cover by Celtic Woman that was better than the original version of the song.
Their music (and their aura) got me through some pretty tough times over the years.
Honestly, I didn't get into social media and go officially SUPER-CWAZY until I saw Destiny on PBS. I started having discussions about the PBS special with family / friends. It was at that point I got some other people hooked on Celtic Woman. I ended up revisiting ALL their previous albums (including every solo album from all 13 lead members of Celtic Woman) and sharing my list of favourite songs with the people I had introduced to the group. I built a fancy spreadsheet of all their songs (group and solo albums), as well as some of their stuff from YouTube that never appeared on albums. It was somewhere between 600 - 700 songs and I enjoyed almost all of them.
The first time I saw them live was in March when I went to see Destiny. I was soooo excited to finally see them live and I absolutely loved it!
My favourite Celtic Woman song (a tough decision as I love a LOT of their songs) is "The Parting Glass!" It's so beautiful and touching. Celtic Woman does BY FAR the best cover ever of that song.
My biggest wish is that I one day get to meet some of the lovely and talented women of the group. I want to go to a meet and greet (badly), so I'm keeping a close an eye on some of the PBS stations for pledge drives involving M&G tickets. Sadly, the ones for my local PBS station(s) keep getting snatched up too quickly. Not next time though. I will find a way!
The Celtic Woman forum has been an awesome resource for me for years now. I'm thrilled to finally be a member and I'm stoked about getting the chance to meet some you forum legends!
