carry me...on the waves

« on: June 11, 2007, 06:06PM »

Ok so we have Christmas in July coming, plus solo efforts from CWs (Lisa's DVD we hope  Grin), Anuna touring and coming to the PBS pledge drive in the fall, Celtic Man, etc. Also, in the Sunday paper's "Parade" I read that sfter Charlotte Church has her baby she plans a new CD and to return to her TV show.  So, that raises the question: Can too much of a good thing end up being bad? Is it too much? I think its only natural that others try to jump on the bandwagon of the success. Its only human. I am sort of glad its happening. A lot of good music coming. BUT, again, when does it become too much? If there is a lot out there, does it cheapen its value?

Remember the British Invasion? Both good and not so good came out of that. I think we're still trying to figure out just what happened then.

with so much music around, you need to sort out the good and the bad according to your tastes. thats how i see it. the world is full of music so you pick out what you like and ignore the rest

I don't think it is a bad thing.  In my car it is always either CW, Clannad, Orlagh, Altan or Van Morrison playing.  Now with the new Celtic Man coming out in the near future, more celtic music to enjoy.  At home and at school I am listening to Accuradio/Radio Celt on the radio and have learned about several Celtic groups from there.  No, there is never too much of a good thing in my opinion!

Personally, when people ask me that inevitable question, "What kind of music do you like?" I answer, "Celtic/Irish."  If it doesn't come from Ireland, I don't really want to hear it  Wink

You should span out a little and listen to some Scottish music.  Caledonia, as you know is about Scotland and it is not bad as done by the original singer/composer Dougie MacLean and another Scottish group Old Blind Dogs is pretty good too.  You might also want to give a listen to Bonnie Rideout, who is a marvelous Scottish fiddler.

I can vouch for Bonnie Rideout.  I saw her in concert and I have her Christmas CD.  She's very talented!

I don't think it will become one of those "too much of a good thing" times because you may not like everything that's coming out. Like ferngully said, you have to sort it for yourself.

When people ask me what music I like, I find it hard to answer, since I like a bit of nearly everything.

Ok, I meant Scottish music too.  But I thought Caledonia was about Ireland....
