The Golden Compass was ridiculously good too. It's the first book in the Phillip Pullman trilogy called His Dark Materials. It's being made into a movie and will be released in December.

Oooh! Books! Got lots of faves!
One really good one I've read recently is "The Kite Runner" about a boy who grew up in Afghanistan, and whose family moved to the US right about the time the Taliban came into power. It is a book that encompasses all emotions, and it can get intense sometimes.
Of course, all the Harry Potter books, Narnia, and the Lord of the Rings are some of my other personal faves.
