Saw Harry Potter movie today, boy that Umbrage woman is sheer evil!! I am trying my hardest not to read the "Deathly Hallows" thread so I don't hear of any spoilers. Must..resist, only 9 more days to go!
My hobbies include reading, going to movies, listening to music and performing music, favorite shows are House, Law and Order SVU (current shows), Frasier, Northern Exposure, MASH, Angel.

Thought this was interesting.
Friday the 13th From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Friday occurring on the 13th day of any month is considered to be a day of bad luck in English, German, Polish and Portuguese-speaking cultures around the globe. Similar superstitions exist in some other traditions. In Greece or Spain, for example, Tuesday the 13th takes the same role. The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia.
A Thoroughly Modern Phenomenon There are drawbacks to the "day so infamous" thesis, not the least of which is that it attributes enormous cultural significance to a relatively obscure historical event. Even more problematic, for this or any other theory positing premodern origins for Friday the 13th superstitions, is the fact that no one has been able to document the existence of such beliefs prior to the 19th century. If people who lived before the late 1800s perceived Friday the 13th as a day of special misfortune, no evidence has been found to prove it. As a result, some scholars are now convinced the stigma is a thoroughly modern phenomenon exacerbated by 20th-century media hype.
Also, according to Snopes.com, an urban legend affirming-or-debunking website, "the claim that the Friday the 13th superstition began with the arrest of the final Grand Master of the Knights Templar, Jacques Demolay, on Friday, October 13, 1307, is a modern-day invention.

'It was only decided in the late 19th century that Friday the 13th was unlucky. Before that, Friday was the unluckiest day and 13 was the unluckiest number, so it made sense to put them together. Except that in Spain, Tuesday is the unluckiest day. And in Japan, four is the unluckiest number. So how come my neighbor's house burned down on Monday the 8th?'

Here in the building I live in, we have no apartment #13 on any floor. It goes from 12 to 14.
Also, I have heard that some tall buildings skip calling a floor #13. they go from the 12th to the 14th floor.
Some people take the 13 stuff very serious. I am not sure that I buy into the hype. But now that I said that, just to be on the safe side, I am gonna lock the door and hide under my bed until midnight.

Didn't Nancy Reagan pay simply oodles of money to have an address changed from 13 to 14? I only vaguely recall reading about it...

The doctor's office building I went to in Seattle didn't have a 13th floor either. A lot of hospitals also don't have a 13th floor, to ease patient distress, I guess.

Some patients, anyway. Some of them might be more worried about those patients who worry about such things (being on the 13th floor, not worrying about 'em). Could I have phrased that any worse?
