They already have taken over the world! Right now I am being sung to by the locust in the trees.... speaking of Locusts, Me and my cousins years ago use to have a locust nursery we would go out in the evening, find the locust crawling up the tree, getting ready to shed their old skin shell, so we would bring them in, put them on a curtain till they came out, and their wings unfurled and dried, then take them back out.

The locust we nursed, were more in the cicada family. Not the grasshopper family. I can't find a good picture, just know our family always called them locust. They crawl out to the ground usually in July and once they come out of their shell, and metamorph into their final stage, they then fly up to the trees and sing...or rather..buzz for the next 2 months lol. That's what country kids do in the summer when they are bored I guess

So, are crickets and grasshoppers and locusts all related somehow? Just a question from someone who knows nothing about etymology. We rescued a cricket today who was trapped in the birdhouse (fortunately, no bird was in there! ).
