Yes it's always been passed down. The Irish language, dance and music is having a big resurgance these past few years. I was tickled pink when I was in Ireland a month ago and everything was in Irish. I went into a large Post Office in County Mayo, with numbered tellers, and the announcements "Next customer to teller # 5 please" were only in Irish. Some horse and livestock auctions are conducted in Irish. I think it is a very clever way of discouraging illegal immigration.......you have to speak fluent Irish to get a job. It is good to see those College students doing céilí dancing, for a while it wasn't "cool". Now they are re-discovering how much fun it can be. The little girl is cute, but she needs to improve her steps. You can be sure all the ladies of CW learned to dance. You can tell Máiréad is a good dancer! It would be great fun to be a part of that! I so wish we had something like that here in the states! You see this kind of thing at Music Festivals in Ireland in the Summer, and also on Saint Patrick's Day. I think Wickie said her brother is going to the All-Ireland Festival in Portlaoise. That will be fabulous fun! Music and dancing on every street. Lessons and workshops you would pay a fortune for any other time, by masters. Máiréad's parents have appeared at several festivals, sharing their knowledge. It is the thing to do, when God has blessed you with that much talent. You share it. Here is a céilí in Cork: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObgwM8CZ99I Here's the most popular dance done at every céilí, the Seige of Ennis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkLqvzAQ1KI Here's an Irish-American Club in Maine USA, look like mostly beginners. check out Santa on the fiddle! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZuUc1LI_SQ Here's a dance we do at our Irish Club, performed by little girls: (If you want to learn I'll teach you!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR0xF537kIQ Title: Re: Feile Trad Tour - Trinity College, Dublin 2007 Post by: <3 Lauren on July 14, 2007, 06:26PM Thanks for posting those Maggie! And I apologize to Chris for brazenly hijacking this thread.
