Title: Roisín Dempsey
Post by: Kelli on August 09, 2007, 12:39PM
I just wanted to encourage everyone again to visit the website that Rich posted of Roisín Dempsey  http://www.roisindempsey.com/ (http://www.roisindempsey.com/)  Her first CD, Spirit of an Irish Christmas, was released some time back and soundbytes of it are available on the website.  I ordered one and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival!  Before Celtic Woman began touring in February she was working on a new album, to be called "Surrounded".  She has resumed work on this album and I believe it will be finished by September.

I think it's very telling that Latest News section of her website lists several performances of Roisín's...each with the proceeds benefiting some sort of charity.  Roisín is just as generous and kind as others associated with Celtic Woman!

I just wanted you all to see yet another bit of proof that EVERYONE associated with Celtic Woman is wonderful!

Kelli

My CD came yesterday!  You know, I've come to expect a rather high level of quality out of everyone associated with Celtic Woman.  And Roisín in no way disappointed!!!

Here is the track listing:

1.  When a Child is Born
2.  Nodie Christus/God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
3.  Dun Oiche Ud i MBeithil
4.  Good King Wenceslas
5.  Nella Fantasia
6.  The Sans Day Carol (The Holly Bears a Berry)
7.  Ave Maria
8.  What Child is This
9.  Deck the Halls/ Utterns Polska
10.  O Holy Night
11.  The Wexford Carol

Nella Fantasia and several others just gave me chills to hear for the first time...just gorgeous!

Well it seems my birthday wish list is getting bigger. I can see that there is no way I'm going to limit(if you want to call it that) myself to the name CW ladies. Now I have to include Amy, Roisin, Deirdre, Nicky, and........? I also just returned from CrestFest here in the San Luis valley and picked up a CD from a Denver lady, Loretta Thompson. She performed at the fest and did a nice rendition of the butterfly along with some fun Scottish jigs and reels. I'd love to hear and see Mairead do old grey cat. It was just the booster shot I needed after coming down from Dublin.

I want to congratulate the members of this forum for a job well-done in support of Roisín!  I was forwarded an email yesterday.  Here is an excerpt from it:

"We had many orders for this CD last week---had sold only couple before that.
Since it is rather early for Christmas, we wonder why.

Again, I am very sorry for this delay."

This email meant to convey that her CD was currently out of stock...  It made me laugh as I had a mental picture of the folks at celticmusicusa pondering why a Christmas CD is suddenly selling out in August!   ;D  Apparently, they hope to be restocked with her CDs in a week or so and will begin catching up on orders then.

If you haven't ordered it yet, you're missing out on something special!

Hi - Im' the one that got the e-mail after ordering the CD.
They'll figure it out now because I invited them to view this forum, plus invited them to the CW main website.  Maybe they'll start stocking Celtic Woman in their store now.  LOL

I truely LOVE "Spirit Of An Irish Christmas".  I can hardly wait for Róisín's next cd "Surrounded".
She is a remakably talented young lady and I hope we will be graced with many more offerings from her in the future.

Kelli and mike I think it is great that you're both doing so much to promote Roisin. I will pick up both of her CDs eventually and hope she gets as much exposure as possible here and elsewhere. If those who produce, and market for her and the other supporting cast see all the demand it will go better for all involved. I'm actively trying to promote Amy Rivard to my clients, family, and friends, as well as letting her know about concert opportunities here in the region. Meeting her and being given her time so graciously has a lot to do with that. The more any involved in CW get out and actually meet their fans the greater the success they'll have. I said in another section that we in forums like this really are the front line in promoting the ones we love.

Thank you, Mosca!  And don't think I missed your posts on Amy...her CD is on "my list" as well.  The amount of talent involved in Celtic Woman is just mind-boggling!  When you get Roisín's CD you'll have to let us know what you think of it!  And I'll do the same for Amy's...

You got it Kelli! I just saw that Omaha is on the tour schedule, and since I spent 30 years in Nebraska, I just sent some friends notices of the event. I might have to fly back there myself and go if I can get my friends at PBS to come up with a good ticket and M&G. Maybe even say hi to Amy Again.

Well Moscapoet, my Roisin CD finally arrived from celticmusicusa.com.  It's funny that they ran out and was scratching there heads as to why..?  When you get around to it, I would recommend to purchase it.

I've listened to it a couple of times today and it is a very good CD.  I would describe it as simplistic and very pleasing to the ear.  The percussions are very good, (gee, I wonder why?)  Roisin has a very nice, in tune, soprano voice.

There are three songs that have a really nice Irish flavor to them "When a Child is born" " Good King Wenceslas" and "Deck the Halls".  My favorite is "The Holly Bears a Berry".  I had never heard it before and loved it instantly.  I have Holly's planted across the front of my house.  It will be a very nice Christmas CD for me to listen to this year.  Thank you Roisin..!

Who is Amy Rivard??
Rosie,
Amy is a member of the CW chorus and a very talented and successful solo artist in her own right.  We have an entire thread devoted to her here:  http://www.celticwomanforum.com/index.php?topic=1212.0 (http://www.celticwomanforum.com/index.php?topic=1212.0).

Mike and Kelli, I certainly will pick up Roisin's CD. I'm still in the Christmas spirit from Dublin. I just received Amy's Cd and it has a nice mellow jazz thing going on.(see post under Amy Rivard). Yes, I'll bet the percussion is great. It sure would be fun to sit in on a session with Roisin and hubby Nicky. Rosie I, You're in for a real treat with all the talent that is CW. Those folks who put all this together know talent, and each performer is a star in their own right. There will be no shortage of goodies for you to choose from for your CD rack. By the way, welcome to the forum.

Is there anywhere one can sample Roisin's music?  I would especially love to hear a bit of Nella Fantasia.  I'm definitely adding Spirit of an Irish Christmas to my list.  I didn't know NF was a holiday song.

This is off topic, and I apologize.  But it just occurred to me that I really enjoy helping to promote these performers - not just the original five, but the chorus members, Deirdre, Hayley, Lynn, and all the musicians - because they're all so easy to like!  Every one of them whom I've come in contact with has been a genuinely nice, warm, kind human being.  There isn't a diva or spoiled brat in the bunch.  Okay, end of sermon.   :D

By the way, welcome to the forum.
I especially like Good King Wensceslas.
I would especially love to hear a bit of Nella Fantasia.

Thanks Moscapoet for the welcome...!  I've pretty much been on here every night for quite some time.  I was reading about the Hat Lady last night and saw her on ANJ, that was pretty cool.  I don't say too much, talking in crowds is not my cup of tea but I enjoy one on one conversation.  I really enjoyed reading your Mairead and Energy explanation in Lisa's forum, Rich's response cracked me up..!  It was impressive though..

Hello Siobhan, nice to meet you too! - those are two really good songs on the CD.  Good King Wensceslas is one of the the songs that has the good percussions by Nicky and has a nice Irish flavor to it.  It's the "featured song" according to the little sticker on the front of the CD case.
Nella Fantasia is really good too, I know Kelli likes it a lot.  Nella Fantasia is simply Roisin singing with the piano, and then a flute joins in at the end.  It's really a pleasant sounding song.  The Holly Bears a Berry is just one of those Happy HappyTunes.  Another one I like is Deck the Halls, it has the Irish music blended in which makes it unique.

I received an e-mail from Roisin today.  She said that she's just finished her new album "surrounded" and is busy this week tying up loose ends and trying to sort out the cover.  She also won't be able to make it with the CW tour this Fall but plans to join up with them in the Springtime.

I completely agree with you Rich, and have had the exact same experiences with the few that I've been able to personally contact.  The choir member I met at Red Rocks (I'm not completely sure, but I THINK it was Kira) was fabulous, and so very sweet even though she was very ready to get back to Ireland.  Roisín's and Amy's emails have been very compassionate and caring as well.  Of course, you know how much I fell for Deirdre at the first meeting...and the great thing is that I could go on and on!  I wish there was a way to personally thank all of them for their contributions, but I'll just continue on as I have been taking each opportunity that presents itself.  It's such a bonus that they happen to be incredibly talented too!  ;)  Yep, no question that my support of them all is solid and strong.

Mike, great to meet you too.  Thanks for the background info on Roisin's CD!  I have played Good King Wenceslas on the harp before (Not a very complicated version, granted, but still) and have never heard it in a full recording, and am thus excited.  I am equally excited about Nella Fantasia.  I have never heard another version of it and the way you describe it makes it sound gorgeous.

Siobhan,
When you do get Roisín's CD you'll have to let us know what you think of it!  Though I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do...so much for a Christmas "season".  Between CW's Christmas CD and her Spirit of an Irish Christmas there is no "season" for me.

Wow Siobhan, you play the harp too!  So we have 3 harp ladies, Orlagh, Kelli and Siobhan.  How cool!
I've heard Kelli play the harp and she's pretty darn good.  And of course, we all know how great Orlagh is on the harp!
I was watching Orlagh at Red Rocks and she was just going to town on that harp, changing those levers and such. She was rockin'... !

Kelli I know!  Christmas is starting waaaay earlier for me this year, lol.

Mike, yes I do play the harp!!!  You are lucky to have heard Kelli play the harp, I have not had that happy privilege!  Orlagh is an amazing harpist. I hope someday I will be as good as her, changing levers so quickly.  With my harp the levers aren't very easy to change because they don't flip like hers.

I'm glad you enjoyed Roisin's CD Anderpaw!  I listen to it regularly  ;)  Hopefully her new CD will be released soon, but I know her plans changed somewhat, so we'll have a little longer to wait.  In the meantime if you want to hear a little more of Roisin's voice she sings a couple of songs with Meav on the Anuna CD that Meav is featured on.  On at least one of the songs, you can hear Roisin's voice very well.  It sounds great right alongside Meav's!
