Title: Mo Ghile Mear Post by: Jonas on September 23, 2007, 06:05PM This is my favorite song. I love the drum solo and the intro the choir does. When they do the song on tour, is know that love will shine through darkness sung by Chloe and can you feel the river run... sung by Meav or Hayley depending which one of them's there and the other solos are sung by the same girls?

Title: Re: Mo Ghile Mear Post by: Moscapoet on September 24, 2007, 12:55PM Jonas it really is a great song! It incorporates all the elements and is simply awesome in person! The dueling drums with Ray and Nicky are fantastic. I've seen it now three times in person and it is the piece they use just before the 20 minute intermission. Then, at the end they do a finale/reprise with Mairead doing just smoking fiddle work that would melt titanium. I hope they keep it in whatever program they develop next.

Thank you, but I still would like to know if the know that love will shine... line was always sung by Chloe during the tour.Title: Re: Mo Ghile Mear Post by: kathleen on September 24, 2007, 05:52PM I love this song. Title: Re: Mo Ghile Mear Post by: Lotte on September 27, 2007, 08:40AM Yeah, but not really that long, it's when Lisa takes her hand and walks forward with her so Chloë can sing her solo

So when time came up for CW to sing it my mom was there siting and watching and at the very end when they hit the drums really hard my mom just screames and said that she loves the end of it.Then she had to tell other people bout it also.
Title: Re: Mo Ghile Mear Post by: Maggie on November 01, 2007, 04:46AM Yes it's a very stirring song, as it was meant to be.
It was written about Bonnie Prince Charlie of the House of Stuart. He was born in Italy, but the Scots always regarded him as a Scottish Hero. There were high hopes for him to become King and reverse the religious prejudice of the times, but it was not to be and after several unsuccessful Jacobite uprisings, and the bloodbath at Culloden, he had to go into hiding. He was secretly spirited away by Flora MacDonald to the Western Isles, as in the song "Over the sea to Skye", then to Europe and finally Italy where after several affairs and years of alcoholism, he died. So, not such a "Gallant Darling". :( Title: Re: Mo Ghile Mear Post by: Jim M. on November 24, 2007, 09:26PM And, then, thanks to reincarnation, and the magic of television, he came back as a US politician, who shall go unnamed.

There are some beautiful pics of Ireland on it: http://www.youtube.com/v/lA_jByUyvXE&rel=1" It is on one of my favourite Chieftains CDs, along with the fabulous version of "Rocky Road to Dublin" with the Rolling Stones, I've worn out two copies of this: http://www.amazon.com/Long-Black-Veil-Chieftains/dp/B000003FRH Title: Re: Mo Ghile Mear Post by: Trouble on November 28, 2007, 03:21PM This is another version I love, it is by Sting and the Chieftains. Title: About “Mo Ghile Mear” Post by: Parker Gabriel on March 19, 2014, 10:28PM Read the translated lyrics and you will find that their overall tone is rather sad. :( :'( You can expect little different from such a ballad about such a tragic historical figure. |
