Title: 2018 Celtic Woman Tour
Post by: Traveling Spaceman on April 28, 2017, 01:50PM
First evidence of a 2018 CW Tour. No clues as to what it might be called. Just says "Celtic Woman." At least the accompanying photo features the current members.

http://foxcitiespac.com/events-tickets/tickets/events/celtic-woman/celtic-woman

The phenomenal Celtic Woman, about to embark on yet another world tour, is this year celebrating 12 years of success, with over 10 million albums and 3 million tickets sold worldwide.

One winter’s night in Dublin, Ireland in 2004, an idea was conceived to create a musical ensemble featuring a selection of exceptional classically and traditionally trained Irish female musicians. And so Celtic Woman was born.

Celtic Woman is a living legend — they draw you into a culture, and share a heritage that is every bit as enchanting as the women themselves.

Thanks, Tom.  All of the ticket broker sites I saw only list 8 shows so far.  I'm sure the list will grow soon. ;)

I'm hoping there's a Wallingford show or a radio city show.

I thought it was a good question.

Yes, Homecoming is apparently the name of the main 2018 tour based on some venue ads for the 2018 tour.

It's possibly the name of the PBS special / DVD as well, but that's just speculation based the fact that Celtic Woman "came home" to record the DVD and because the dresses and set being totally different for the DVD as compared to the Voices of Angels tour.

That sounds reasonable.

And I'm still keeping an eye out for Roanoke or Salem, VA! God willing!

So I just bought a ticket in the Pit for Lakeland.  I have a great memory from Lakeland.

I was a little burned out on CW that year.   (I think it was 2014).  Can't remember exactly why -- it was probably all the changes.  I had spent a lot of money traveling to see shows, and finally thought enough was enough.  I decided to go to Lakeland, since it was only 45 minutes from the house.  I had a seat in row B.  In Lakeland, the first row (A) does not extend the same width as Row B.  In other words, the end couple of seats on each end of Row B does not have anyone in front of them.

Anyway, TAR used to start with 2 girls out in the audience.  In my case, Lisa Lambe was on my side of the theatre.  Since I had by then met all the girls multiple times, Lisa sat down next to me (empty seat) and put her head on my shoulder!!!  I was hooked again!!

Has anyone heard about a presale password? I usually get it in an e-mail, but so far I haven't received anything.

I saw a link to a promo code on the Benedum Center (Pittsburgh) website.

And, I just got an email from CW saying they will email the promo code to us tomorrow.  Sign up for CW emails if you haven't already done so.

Yay!!!

Look like promo pre-sale codes for many venues tomorrow (Oct 5).

While that's excellent news, it leaves me in my typical situation. As usual, my closest venue in Canada isn't making tickets available to the public until much later (series tickets subscription only until December 8th, no individual show tickets) and almost certainly won't have M+Gs. The next two closest venues release tickets tomorrow, but I probably have to hold off on tickets until I figure out if there will be a M+G through PBS ... meaning tense months waiting for PBS stations while most or all of the good seats get sold.

Anyways, I'm insanely excited because there's potentially 5 venues in the span of a week that I could get to this time and some of the good locations for me are on a weekend, too! I'm going to draw the line at 2 (maybe 3) but at least there's multiple options to choose from if all the good seats are sold at one venue or only some of them have M+Gs.

Welp, got an email from the Pensacola Saenger theater a little while ago saying to use the code "CWVN" at Ticketmaster.

ETA: Code worked, at least for that venue.

I`ll bribe them, after all, it IS Rhode Island....they`ll assume I`m a local poletician.  Maybe IF I brought some of my squirrels , the possum and racoon with me, I`d have the WHOLE front row  ::) ::) ::) ::)

Possibly...though the squirrels yell at each other, hopefully they`ll like Irish music and be quiet. I`d be sure to bring PLENTY of walnuts.

This is gonna be hard to write but I feel I must speak my truth. And, truth be told, I'm not too sure how to feel about the upcoming tour...

For one thing, financially, I can't do it this year. I've been every year since the 2011 SFTH Tour. I'm disappointed that I won't be able to go this year. But! There are more pressing things I need to handle first.

But, on the other hand, I'm disappointed overall with VOA. Yes, it was a good show. But the CD is probably one of my least played. It was a good CD, but so much of it was old material that I certainly didn't love it. I actually really loved Destiny! I loved all the solos (except Mairead C's which, I felt, didn't properly showcase her abilities), Westering Home is my fave from the album, and I loved all the group songs. My only complaint was When You Go. I love the song and think it's a lot of fun! But I didn't care for it as an opener at all.

Now! With VOA, I loved Tara's solos. I loved Mairead's solos but was disappointed when they didn't have A Time For Us on tour and instead had what I consider the inferior Dulaman (I really don't like the VOA version much) as her solo. Susan's solos were okay. She Moved is only good because of the added visuals on tour. Otherwise, I think it's lackluster. And stop with The Voice! Give Susan a chance to sing her own power number! Just her, no choir. A musical number! Maybe Memory or On My Own. Eabha's Sean Nos number on tour was breathtaking. But it wasn't on the CD. Instead, we only got IOH, IOT. It's a beautiful song, but I felt it was much better as a group number.

The group songs were very good. I loved the new Movie Ghile Mear. I also really enjoy the new Nil.

But overall, I was disappointed with this show. One thing I loved about SFTH and Believe is that there were duets between each permutation of singers. I loved that! It showed the different harmonies and the talents of the girls. I also miss the more crowd thumping songs. The ones that really get the audience going. TAR was a prime example. But the new one is too mellow for that. Sing Out and Spanish Lady both encouraged the audience to clap along. And Green Grow even brought the audience in to sing with the girls.

What I loved about Destiny was that almost everything about it was new. Was it perfect? No. But it was the new Director's first time. And it was really good! But VOA was disappointing....

The best VOA songs were the completely new ones. Keeping some of the old classics is all well and good, but it's time to refresh the catalog. I hope, with Homecoming, they bring in new songs for the girls to solo for. Don't give them slightly different arrangements of old classics. Give them the chance to make new classics!
