Title: Son Planning a Honeymoon in Ireland!
Post by: haynes9 on April 23, 2007, 11:48AM
Here's the deal. My second oldest son is getting married, most likely in December. He wants to take his bride to Ireland.

Any suggestions for travel guides or other thoughts would really be appreciated. One of the challenges is he will be there over Christmas. Ireland at Christmastime or winter in general ; good idea, bad idea?

Thanks in advance! Have a great day!

The one constant in the irish climate is.....change.
It will definitely be cold in December, probably from high 30s F to low 50s F.
It will be wet on some days.
Dublin of course is always busy, it is a typical European Capital City.

My recommendation is they should stick to the South West, around Killarney and Dingle. The climate is better than elsewhere and there is more happening.
Find a nice warm family-run B&B, I can recommend some if you like.

One really special thing for a Honeymoon would be to spend a night in a castle.
One that I know well, as it is near to where my Mom was from, is Belleek, built in 15th Century, it is in County Mayo which is further North, but it is beautiful and not as expensive as you might expect, about the same as a US 5-star hotel.

Any recommendations would be just great! I sent my son the link to the castle. He's definitely interested in that.

Thanks for the help and have a great day!

How old is Shane?
Does he know he will have to work harder at school in Ireland? :D

I know what you mean about one brother less, even though I only had two!
