Title: ''O Holy Night'' (on YouTube)!
Post by: Celeste on May 19, 2007, 11:50AM
How nice! Someone has finally uploaded the video of "O Holy Night" from Slane Castle to YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ-8jYpa1-o

This gives fans another chance to see Chloe in her most gorgeous dress: the famous white angelic gown.

The video is a little less "blocky" than it was at that German site that featured it, probably because the YouTube screen size is a tad smaller. At least now, everyone can watch it without having to register.

Even slightly pixellated, it's an amazing video of a ravishing performance. I can't believe it never aired on TV, or was included on the DVD. Perhaps it will be an "extra" in the next CW video.

I'd ask how he/she got the footage, but I'm afraid he/she'd have to kill me.
I mean, why WASN'T this aired? Too out-of-season...? I dunno...
Nice work finding it, Celeste. :)

This gives fans another chance to see Chloe in her most gorgeous dress: the famous long, white, angelic gown.

I get the feeling that the Christmas DVD coming out later this year has already been recorded.
And where is Hayley?

Now that's a very interesting point. Do you think that other carols were recorded at Slane as well as this one, and that those will comprise the Christmas DVD?

If so, I can't wait to discover what other carols they recorded. There are so many enchanting ones -- many by the greatest classical composers...

This is how I came to that conclusion. The Slane Castle Show - A New Journey was filmed in August and not released until January, five months after being filmed. So if the Christmas DVD is released in December then backing up five months more or less puts it being filmed in July of this year. Since they are going to be coming off a long tiring tour at the end of June and going back out on tour in the Fall and lasting thru December then the only time they would have free is July, August and September to film. However I would think they would film in a Christmas type of setting. But then the Slane Castle show - A New Journey was actually filmed over two nights. I think I am driving myself nuts so I will just stop now and wait until the DVD actually comes out. But then again it has already been announced that a new Christmas DVD is coming later this year and I don't think they would make such an announcement without already having the product in hand.
I can't figure out why Hayley was not in the o holy night video unless she is leaving the group after the Fall tour. There also were no backup singers.

Such wild speculation! ;) To the best of my knowledge O Holy Night was the only Christmas song filmed at Slane. Originally it was supposed to be broadcast by PBS when they aired A New Journey in December as a kind of promo for the then just released Christmas Celebration. Why it was never broadcast is one of the mysteries of PBS. Hayley doesn't appear in it for the simple reason that she isn't on the original recording.

They haven't filmed the new special yet. You have to remember that we had no idea when they were filming A New Journey until an announcement saying that they were talking applications for people to be in the audience appeared on CW's website about a month or so before filming.

So, there's only Chloe, Lisa, Meav, Orla and Mairead being filmed in there? How did you know? :o

I believe this is the only Christmas song that was sung at Slane because they had a full list of what was sung and it included "O Holy Night"

How nice. The "O Holy Night" clip has been given an "honour" by YouTube. It is one of "today's favourite videos" (#90, at the moment):

http://www.youtube.com/browse?t=t&p=5&s=mf&c=10&l=

Of course, it is absurd to think that any of the 89 videos ahead of it can hold a candle to this (or any) performance by Chloe and Celtic Woman. However, if you consider that the typical YouTube rock/pop/rap/etc. audience is hardly predisposed in favour of classical music, to merit a mention at all on such a list testifies to the group's ability to reach beyond modern cultural battle lines, and to touch something deep within people's hearts (whatever their listening tastes may be).

Who had or where was this full list of what was sung at Slane?  I have the DVD, but saw no mention of this song, so I'm wondering where it was listed?

Thanks! *S*

Here is my take on the song at Slane. Possibly the audience got a special PREVIEW of the upcoming (least in August at that time) release of the Christmas CD. That is why it's not on the PBS or the DVD. When you watch it..you can tell its the CW production crew that filmed it..not an audience member.

Now it would of been cool..if this had been an EASTER egg on the DVD  ;D, you know..that well hidden secret that you have find...buried deep in the recess of the DVD

I also could tell it was filmed by the TV crew that did the Slane concert, but what I want to know is what list was it on that Western Rose mentions?

I love Christmas music! This is my favorite Christmas song and I have never heard it presented more beautifully.

They really do sometimes appear to be earthly angels.

Thank you so much for posting that! At last, the long-standing mystery of "What was really performed at Slane Castle, and in what order was it sung?" is solved.

There was much discussion of possible Easter Eggs on the New Journey DVD when it was released, but no one ever found one (to the best of my knowledge). Wouldn't it be interesting if this track was still there on the disc somewhere, waiting to be accessed by someone with a little DVD savvy...

Your Very Welcome, I sadly do not have the DVD, though I've never been good at finding easter eggs (in the DVD sense  ;D I'm pretty good on Easter  :P) I wonder how this person got "O Holy Night" maybe that somehow got it off that german site  ???

One my favorite childhood memories of Christmas is the following. My family and I go to midnight mass at St. Patrick's back in Illinois and the choir director sings  Oh Holy Night. When I first stumbled upon C W and heard Chloe's voice it occured to me that she would be perfect for that song. Now having seen and Heard it on Youtube Makes me realize how much I miss my family. Especially Mom and Dad may  they rest in peace in God's loving arms.

But isn't Panis Angelicus a Christmas song?  It's on the ANJ dvd and I figured it was a Christmas song because it appears on their Christmas album....

Panis Angelicus to me is not a Chirstmas song. Yes it is on the xmas cd and they did perform it at Slane.

But Panis Angelicus is slow, calm, soothing...I don't what it means, though.

"Panis Angelicus" is my single favourite segment of the Slane Castle concert. That performance shows Chloe looking perhaps more beautiful than at any other time -- and that's really saying something.

Scott kindly provided a translation of the words to "Panis Angelicus" on the Chloe Agnew forum, here:

Now you've got me started!
I already had tears in my eyes after seeing this on YouTube.
My Mum & Dad have been in Heaven 33 years and I miss them every day.
Especially when I hear such angelic music.
Imagine what a glorious place it must be, if all the angels sing like this!

Pass the Kleenex.....

LOL!!  We got your meaning, Rosie!  We don't grade on spelling here, or there'd be almost nobody left on the forum.   :D

By the way - you can always edit your posts after you send them, too.  That's what that little "modify" button is for.

Hello.  I'm a newbie!  But I wanted to let you know that I talked with Orla after the Red Rocks show.  She said the Christmas DVD will be coming out some time in October.  I told her that I will definately be getting the DVD and can't wait to see it.

Thanks for sharing this video with us. This is certainly the most beautiful version of "O holy Night" I have seen or heard. As always the girls are just captivating. They put so much emotion into their performance. They show us time and again just how professional and commanding they are. Can't wait to see their Christmas DVD!
