Some of you know that I work as a truck driver and get paid to run around the country avoiding bad drivers, and, sometimes I get to go to a CW concert.  I have been able to meet about 15 members of this forum, so far, and they are all great folks.  I have talked to a few more on the phone and hope to meet them, too.  I work out of Portland, Oregon, and mostly drive in the western states, but have talked my dispatcher into letting me run east for a while.  So far, I have only made it as far east as Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.  I am hoping to make it to the east coast soon.  I called 2BOB when I was in Tulsa, but missed him (he SAID he was working - hmmm.....).  Anyway, the purpose of this topic is to tell you that I would like to meet more of you - if I come to your town and have time - and we could talk about Celtic Woman over lunch or dinner, if you would like, and have the time.   In the last few weeks, I have been to Seattle/Tacoma, Boise, Salt Lake City, Pasco (WA.), Albuquerque, Orla (TX.), Laredo, San Antonio, Waco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Tulsa, Wichita, Denver, Amarillo, DFW (again) and Houston, where I am now (actually Baytown).  Tomorrow, I get to go back to Laredo, again. (Lucky me!)(#!*#!*!#)  I know it won't be long before I get to Phoenix (our main HQ) and back to California, again.

So, anyway, if you are interested, send me a pm or post here and tell me where you are, and if I get close, I will let you know when and where I will be (as best I can) - I can't get online as often as I would like and sometimes just don't have time for anything but work.  I have made some good friends on this forum and would like to meet each of you in person, too.  Thank you.

I drive a Volvo (for now) and it looks to be a Volvo power steering unit with maybe a German fluid tank.  What part of PA are you in?  I've been to Hershey (for choc. bars) before and to Pittsburgh a few times - and across the state when I went to NJ once, and from south to north and north to south a few times.  Thanks!!

I'm in south-central PA, Hanover to be precise; halfway between Gettysburg and York and about 45 minutes south of Harrisburg.  We do steer some Volvos, but if it's not a Sheppard gear then it's probably TRW.  Even with the competition on your truck, though, my offer still stands.

Jim I live in waterloo which is north west of Iowa city which I-80 run by. It's not to far so when ever you do make back here to Iowa Will have to see if we can set something up. Maybe some where closer to Iowa city.

I've been to Waterloo, and Cedar Falls, too.  I am now headed to Maine from Texas, so may well go through Iowa on my way back west later this month.  I will let you know if I get close.  Thanks!

I'd like to get you to one of our local pubs for a glass of Guinness, a burger, and a look at some of the lovely Oklahoma gals. I say lovely, as they tend to be noticed for the way they treat a weary traveler like a member of the family. But you probably already know that from some of your stops around Checotah, Pryor, and other small towns across Oklahoma (and Texas)!  Anyway, after a glass of Guinness you might have to wait an hour before going swimming or operating heavy machinery, so we can watch the ladies and talk about missing CW while they are taking a break.

I met Jim M, and drove him to Pasadena to meet Rich, Chris, Eric, Dwight and Mary-Willow. Then I drove him to the Greek Theater and back to the bus stop.  Jim is good guy and good sense of humor. So if you get to meet him he will tell you CW info from the shows :)

Everyone - I had the great pleasure last night of meeting Cap'n Davey, Scott, and our special guests Kimberly (KAJ) and her dad.  We spent about 3 hours together talking about CW, Kim (and Chloe).  As you may know, Kim is probably the biggest Chloe fan in the world (after her family, of course) and it was fun for me to share a few "Chloe moments" from shows I have been lucky enough to attend and to show Kim the items I have that Chloe and the other CW ladies have signed for me.  Kim is a very sweet, very bright, very pretty and very charming young lady (as you can tell from her posts) and I hope you all have the chance to meet her sometime.  Her dad is a great guy, too.  We are lucky to have Kim as a member of the forum and Chloe and CW are lucky to have such a devoted fan.  So, to  Kim, "dad", Davey and Scott - Thank you all very much for making last night a very memorable evening - and, I hope we can all get together again sometime.

Well, I feel a little embarrassed seeing this thread.  I confess to passing on the offer to meet Jim out of fear of "internet creeps." 

Now I see that several of you have met him (a fact I wasn't aware of at the time), and so far, no one reports that he's a shady character. So, Jim, I would like to publicly apologize for my assumption, which I hope was concealed by my polite response, but which I now feel bad about, regardless.

If a group of you ever get together around Portland, which is where I am, then I would be delighted to meet up (assuming I'm welcome after labeling Jim a possible internet creep!).  A night of chatting about CW sounds like music to my ears (esp. if other people are participating… usually, it's just me gabbing about CW, while my spouse spaces off, lol).

Cherany, is understandable to on the defensive to meet people on the internet. I know I am, yet Jim contacted me from the fourm info.

Well Jim is true, yet you have to trust your instinct on the internet especailly to meet people. But with CWF hmmmm I have ;)  Jim you can get good prices on Aer Lingus to Ireland from the east coast :). I don't know if they charge for check baggage ??? Hint Jim hint ::)

Well - now I'm jealous !!!  I want to meet Cap'n Davy, Scott, Kim and her dad, and Jim - and all you other fine folks on the forum.  Why can't we have a re-union, more like union ?  It would be great !   Who has a good idea about where and when ?

Cherany it is always wise to be on the defensive with the internet regarding folks you've never met. This is especially true for women and younger folks. Rest assured that Jim is a gentleman and that the folks I've met within the various forums so far are nice people. It's always best to make initial contacts though in a group setting. Err on the side of caution.

Well, some of my best friends are people I met on the internet before I met them in person, but I knew them very well & for a long time before I met them face to face.  When it's someone I don't know so well, then yes, a group setting would be a must, especially with men. 

I think that is the big difference here - I don't have male friends & don't seek any out.  I just don't have much in common with guys; I'm the kind of girl who lists figure skating as her favorite sport.  But chatting about Celtic Woman seems, to me, a gender-less activity. 

I just might make some male friends, after all.  :)

Cherany -- Shywolf is one of the people I have met and he is a good guy (like me!), so I'm 1000% sure he was not offended by your post.  As you said, we are all here because of our love for CW.  Some folks like to get together and talk about CW; others might not.  We met one guy at the L.A. show who said he was a member of the Forum, but he wouldn't tell us what name he uses, so I still don't know who he is.  Some people value their privacy more than others - that's OK with me.  I started this topic to see if I could meet a few other CW lovers.  I have, and they were all great.  If some don't want to meet me, that's OK, too.  They can ignore me if they want.   I've received many pm's from members I've yet to meet.  Hopefully, I will have the chance to meet some of them.  As I said before, I will let you know when I get back to Portland.  Take Care!

UPDATE:  I am in Atlanta for the night -  I found a stray wifi signal I can use and McDonald's is a block down the street, so I'm OK.  I have a new load going to Dallas, TX, and will leave in the morning.  Then I will probably be going to Oregon after that as there is a young lady in my family who will have her 4th birthday party on Aug. 2nd and I would like to be there.
After that, I will try to head east again for a while, as long as the weather is nice, so I may get to see more of you then.

I should have posted last night that I am in Jackson, MS.  The dark clouds I saw last night have mostly cleared out and it looks like it may be another warm day.

Thank you.  I love my name now.  As a young kid, of course, I just wanted to be Ashley, Tiffany, or some other name people could pronounce correctly, but once I got a little older (maybe middle school), I started to appreciate it for its orginality.  Btw, mine is sort of like share-a-knee or Sharon E.  Those, I find, are the easiest teachings on how to pronounce it.  It is German (which people never believe, because it doesn't have a coughing/hacking up sound in it, I suppose :D), though not very common in their country, I hear.

I never smoked or drank, either.

Sort of... actually, what I mean by that is I've heard of it, but have no clue where it is.  ::)

One of my best friends lives in MS (Olve Branch, on the TN border where Memphis is).

Wow, I am hijacking this thread, too.  I've been very bored at work lately!

Well, it wasn't meant to be funny.  I'm lucky in that I don't pay for my fuel - my company does.  Many owner-operators are parking trucks and leaving the business as they were losing money due to high fuel prices.  And, some companies have shut down.  I just fuel where they tell me, and go on down the road.  The high price of gas has not slowed down the four-wheelers much, it seems, as there appear to be as many or more than before gas hit $4 a gallon.  Still a lot of rv's on the road, too, and folks pulling trailers, boats, etc.

(BTW, I am now in Dallas.)

I have been to Olive Branch a few times - it is a nice area.

Just found out I am now going to Kansas City.
And then to Denver.

Just had dinner with 2B0B in Tulsa - NICE GUY!  We talked about each and every one of you.

I finally made it all the way to the east coast this trip - in Virginia Beach, VA.

I would love to go back there for a few days.

It rained here during the night and is sprinkling off and on and a little breezy, and all I've really seen of the area is a Wal-Mart lot, the freeway, a trailer repair shop and this truck stop (decent food here).  From the map, it looks like the water is 3 or 4 miles down the road.

It seems I will be leaving this afternoon for the Utica, NY, area.
I have extra time on this trip, so maybe I can meet some of you.

I was able to get far enough south to escape the snow I was in for a few days.  I am in the Wytheville, VA., area, headed to Charlotte tomorrow and Atlanta by Monday.  It was about 70 here today and the hills are all red, yellow and orange with the leaves changing colors.

This may be the nicest time of the year.  I will probably be headed back west soon.  I need to get home by National Take a Turkey to Lunch Day.

Hey, I was at our Wytheville plant on Monday and woke up to snow on Tuesday morning!  I took the scenic route home and spent Wednesday and part of Thursday in New River Gorge amidst gorgeous autumn foliage.  Got some lovely pictures, with and without trains.  I've missed you in York twice and now Wytheville, too.

Jim, Jim, Jim...I am just SO disappointed that you have not taken the time and energy to come down to Miami. Tisk Tisk. Shamful, if you ask me!  ::)

I had the great pleasure yesterday of visiting with MeganDelia and her grandfather.
She is a very bright, sweet and pretty young lady and loves CW like the rest of us.  She showed me the card that she received from Mairead.  It was great, all handwritten and personal.  Mairead is certainly a classy lady.

Well, I never made it to Ft. Pierce.  A tire blew out on my trailer and it took a long time to get another, and I was running out of my legal hours to drive, so they gave the load to another driver and he took it to Ft. Pierce.  So, I have been sitting here since yesterday (in northern Florida) waiting for another load.  It looks like I may be headed west tomorrow.

I don't know yet if I will get to TN during this trip, but, if I do, I will let you know when I do.

Yes, I left PHX about 1:30 pm yest. and it was 80+ then - spent the night at Jamestown, NM, where it was about 20 this morning.  I'm now in Oklahoma City, for the night, where it is about 55.

Well, I haven't updated this for a while - but, if any of you are riding Amtrak in the next few days, you may see me.  I will be leaving this afternoon from Washington, DC, overnight to Chicago, then on to Portland and home, by Saturday evening.  I have a few hours of layover in Chicago and again in Portland if anyone wants to come to the train station for lunch.  I'll buy!  (assuming the train is on time)

After a 15 day trip and 3 CW shows in 4 days, I can add another 20+ names to my list of forum friends that I have met.  Others have posted reviews of the Wilkes-Barre and New York City concerts, so I won't do that here (maybe later), but I just wanted to say that I enjoyed meeting all of you and seeing others I had met before.  I had a great time, even though I never got enough sleep, and wish I could do it again right now.  I plan to be back on the road next month and maybe I can meet more of you that I have missed so far, and maybe we will get to share another CW show.  I hope to make it to a few more before this tour is over.  Thanks everyone!

I made it back to California last Friday and met up with Angie and her husband Dave.  We had dinner and shared a few CW stories and photos.  Thank you for the dinner and nice evening, Angie and Dave. 

I am now running around the west again, currently in Nevada - headed to California tomorrow.  I am hoping to get a few trips east, too.

See if you can work in a Denver trip around the middle of next week.  You might find something to do while you're there. ;D

Jim, you stay safe on the the road, ya hear? We lost a trucker last week when the driver rolled the rig (don't know why exactly) and she was killed. Her husband was in the hospital.
 Two days ago a pick up clipped the back end of a trailer and the pickup driver was killed. Trucker was safe.

Thanks, Maggie and Jim.  We run mostly in the western states, but I'm told there are trips to Georgia, New Jersey and Connecticut, also,
so you never know where I may show up.  This company seems to schedule the loads real tight so there is seldom extra time available for anything but work.  I know they run trips to PHX, so I will probably be there someday.  Florida may not be possible.
Due to the recession, there are fewer trucks on the road than last year, but the 4-wheelers are still out there, some of them driving like maniacs, so I try to be as careful as I can.

Quick off topic, since Orlando is mentioned.

Orlando's gain is Pittsburgh's loss. Their new TV News anchor, Sonni Abbatta, is from Pittsburgh and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, so you know she has a brain as well as looks. I always knew she would eventually leave, but I figured she would go network, maybe FOX news. She is still young though, so maybe another 5 years, she gets in her early 30s, and she will replace katie Couric!   :D

Yes; second time in 4 years.  Dispatchers just have no sense of timing.  Not as bad this time, I guess - I had not been to any CW shows 4 years ago and now I've been to several and have met all 4 ladies several times (plus Orla and Alex).  A Red Rocks show would have been special, though.

Driving the truck is my job.  Everyone wants to eat and have things to buy in stores and I haul a lot of food products and other things.  My last load was milk and the previous load was meat.  I deliver a lot of loads to Wal-Mart and have delivered to K-Mart and Target in the past.  And, I have met a lot of nice forum members around the country.

Hopefully not messed up like the poor Pepsi driver last week.   His load shifted in transit and some goof at their warehouse hadn't built and wrapped the pallet properly...well you could hear the cans rolling around when he stopped at the dock.   One very unhappy driver.

No, not that way.  I drove 200 miles on Sunday to get the load, was told my pickup number was wrong, then had to wait until late Tuesday (because of the holiday) to be told the shipper "could not find the load" (which is in a 53 foot semi trailer!) (??), then was sent 300 more miles to get a different load in another state.  Very good work on somebody's part.

OK, I will watch for that hauler.  I see a lot of haulers on the road and in truckstops and have talked with a few of the drivers.  Those trucks are very nice and they usually keep them very clean.  I have a few photos of some of them.

Haven't fished for years.  My fishing gear is in storage.  I did go shopping today -- looking for CW/Hayley/Sarah Brightman items at the local used cd/dvd store - they had none!  Rats!
I did get a new printer at Target - $50 model for $30!  And, I went to the Border's sale - found a nice book about Ireland for 20% off.  ("Ireland - A View From Above" - list $14.99)  Nice photos - all from a plane or helicopter, I guess.  They had 3 copies - I should have bought all of them - great gifts - but only got 1.
They also had CW music on sale, but original prices too high - I can do better on Ebay.
Also visited Euphoria Chocolate and got some of their new sauces (Royal Dark, and Mexican - cinnamon and vanilla in it.)
Anyway, tomorrow I eat ice cream, then back on the road Monday.

We run a lot of trips through the area, but not many starting or ending there when I would likely have more time.

Besides great food the staff is fabulous. Dan, the owner, is a great guy! He provided over 300 meals for a $ong to our Hospitality Ballroom one night during our hosting of the 82nd Airborne Division Association 65th National Convention earlier this month. Dan's friendly and efficient staff brought the food in in "waves" so it was fresh.

Dan also donated over 150 meals the following day for our Wounded Warrior Reception. (The Association was able to invite and finance 40 young Wounded Warriors to our Convention.)

Took a whole day to get it fixed.  On a NEW, $100,000+ truck.

At least you missed the fog here.  About 3:45 AM I was driving into Sacramento, from the hills and when I finally came around the last curve before the final 2 grades to the valley floor I saw black.  it was thick enough that no light of any kind could be seen beyond my own.   Normally i can at least see a faint glow from the city or the suburb between the the last 2 hills.   probably one of the eeriest fog experiences that I've had.

I think they call that Tule (toolie) Fog -- very thick and tough to drive in -- I've been in it a few times, but now I park it when I see that.  It is just too dangerous to drive in.  Many people have died in massive pileups in that stuff.

Quick off topic: Yesterday I was doing onion inspections and issuing USDA export certificates at one of the onion grower/shippers I provide the service. They loaded a truck with the wrong order and sent the driver on his or her way. Had to ring up the driver and tell him or her to come back! Don't know how far down the road the driver had got but I can't even imagine!

In fairness I will add this shipper typically loads around 50 trucks a day, has an 86 trucks loaded in one day record, and rarely makes mistakes.

I have a few stories about wrong or misdirected loads.  Mistakes happen, unfortunately.

I think I lost about 3 hours out a of a work day once because some goofball hooked up the Woodland/Davis trailer to my drivers truck.   Not sure how it happened, wasn't my regular driver though.  Both trucks had to go back to Sac, swap trailers and then go back.  In the meantime I'm stuck waiting.   

That's not good.

Albany, GA., now, where it is mostly cloudy and 73, after a very nice Saturday in Nashville which included a CW show and brief chats with David Downes, Andrew Boland, Ian Ralfini, Ray Fean, and our own Sara, Zo, Kathleen, Emily and other forum members.  The show was GREAT!  Chloe, Lisa, Susan, the world's best fiddler - Mairead, and everyone else were all marvelous.  Thank you, CW, for a very fine evening of music and fun.  I bought my ticket just before showtime and my seat was in row 10 - dead center.  Not bad at all.

There's an F-101B Voodoo with my name on the canopy rail planted on Promontory Point just west of Ogden.  It caught fire while in the traffic pattern at Hill AFB and had to be abandoned.  Fortunately, someone else was flying her that day.  Not sure how close it came to the golden spike. 

And they left it there?  The rails are on the flat ground near the point.

 :)  Figuratively speaking, of course.  I’m sure they scraped up every piece they could find to try to determine the cause of the accident.  I don’t remember the exact cause of the fire, only that it presented itself in one of the wheel-wells during multiple low approaches.  It was only an hour to Hill from K-falls and they were burning off excess fuel prior to landing.

Interesting story.  I sometimes see planes from Hill when I am in the Ogden area.  They have a lot of historic aircraft on display, also.  One of these days I hope I can visit the museum.  Thanks, Jack.

Spent 1.5+ hours at an accident scene in the desert -- two teenage boys in a Ford Ranger pickup tried to do a u-turn in front of another vehicle on the freeway, causing a collision and rollover, and a lady had to be helicoptered to a hospital - we think she will be ok.  She was not wearing a seat belt, apparently -- she was thrown from the rolling Chevy Trailblazer.  There were also 2 young kids in the Chevy.  They were really scared but OK.  One of the teen boys was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
I was not involved.  I got there just as the dust was still in the air and helped with traffic control.  It was about 40 miles to the nearest town so it took officers a bit to get there.

 Got some much needed rain in the early p.m. in the Twin Cities...And last Sunday was warm and sunny and perfect for our "Celtic Cuties".  It's almost as if Mother Nature paid her reverent dues to our lovely ladies. 

We're about 20 miles from the nearest town.  When there is a serious accident it always takes LE/HP and medical at least 30 mins to arrive.  It is frustrating when there are serious injuries, the wx is severe and it seems help will never arrive.  Glad you were there and able to help.

Jim, do you even use GPS anymore?  Seems you've been everywhere on the same routes and probably don't need one by now.  Does your rig have a factory installed unit? 

We used a 17 inch laptop integrated w/GPS for a while.  It was pretty neat, showing the big picture with all the side roads, towns off the interstate, etc.  It got a little cumbersome so we went back to Tom-Tom.

No, I don't have a GPS unit.  I have an atlas and can get maps on my laptop.  We have directions to many of our customers available on our Qualcomm units.
