Title: Music for the Next Show
Post by: FireGuyFrank on June 27, 2007, 01:27PM
Even while the glow of Celtic Woman: A New Journey is still washing over us, I am curious to know if you have suggestions for songs for the next program?

Furthermore, ought they reprise "Orinoco Flow" a third time?

Best,
FireGuyFrank

Frank, there are actually a few threads that already discuss this topic.

As for Orinoco Flow, I say play it again, maestro!
That's one of my all-time favorite CW songs.
It was the first song of their's that I ever heard!!

I know some people who have become CW fans recently who just loved Orinoco Flow. My husband, who hasn't really" seen the light " yet about CW, really likes that song as well. Please don't drop it! You would be disappointing so many people.

Thanks,

Dianne

The flow must NEVER go!  Keep the Oronoco going on every album, dvd, cd, etc.

But seriously, do we need the same set of songs on every CD and DVD release? Don't get me wrong, I love each and every song but it's pretty redundant especially when you collect all their material.

I vote for a completely new set of songs.

the flow is kinda like their anthem and is, i think expected. like "fight for your right to party" from the beastie boys or "on the road again" from willie nelson. it's not about one hit or even broad appeal...it's a large part of the cw identity now matter how much or how little you know of them.

and for my money cw's is much better than enya's ::)

I like the idea of all new songs too.  I wouldn't mind hearing them still sing some of the same songs when they tour.

I would say that it would be great to include "the Flow" on new material. But I can understand where people are coming from when they say it shouldnt. Some musicians have included the same songs over and over again in their work, and it gets old after a while. I have been a Stevie Nicks fan a long time, but it seems Edge of Seventeen and Stand Back are done over and over, plus she has like 3 or 4 greatest hits albums now, with basically the same music.  She has almost as many greatest hits albums as regular albums.

But having the one song, as sort of a 'signature' song, is fine. Its a fun song too that promotes fans to get into the mood of the show. Same with Spanish Lady. But beyond that, those 2, they should tread careful with repeats.

Good point Cash, I ran out and bought Crystals Visions (new cd/dvd compilationn) of Stevie's and was hugely disappointed.  People need to add some new fresh stuff from time to time.  Anyway, Stevie still rules and she's still filling up venues after 30 years of doing it.   ;)

It's only the DVDs that repeat songs.  There are no overlaps with the CDs.

As far as I can tell, the songs that are repeated on the DVDs are:

Orinoco Flow
Danny Boy
Somewhere
You Raise Me Up

I know that I heard a few songs for the first time on the 2006 tour such as:  The Sky, The Dawn, The Sun, Caledonia, The Blessing, The Voice, Sing Out, Mo Ghile Mear, and Spanish Lady, to name a few.

i think they should keep orinoco flow and one other and then not do the rest. i have to admit, i really don't like the song' you raise me up' generally and i hope they drop it soon :-[ i would like to hear some new songs as well as some old favourites. but they must never drop orinoco flow or spanish lady. that is my verdict :D

Well, I don't know that with their upcoming tour they will have new songs if they do not make a new album, but you never know, and I'd very much like to hear some new tunes from them.  But as always, there are some oldies and goodies that should stay.

Orinoco Flow, definitely, it is a GREAT tour piece and the percussion nearly blows you out of your seat.  Also I think it draws a lot of non-fans in.  I've been trying to convert one of my friends to CW-ism for a while but she's a stubborn one.  She sometimes makes fun of them (lightly) and the little moves they do on stage, and isn't really much for their music.  But she found Orinoco Flow on Youtube and was like "Wow . . . that's amazing." and went on to watch it several times in a row.  She also liked The Voice.  I think there is a universal quality about CW that makes people unable to completely dislike them.

I'd like to see You Raise Me Up in there too, it's gorgeous.  The Voice is also a great addition.  I would really like to see Orlagh get to use her harp more.  I was pleased when she got the accompaniment in Scarborough Fair, but didn't understand why she didn't on the DVD.

I would love to hear some new music.  Just more for me to love.  But if there has to be one song to keep I'd vote for Over The Rainbow.  No one could ever top the way they do that song.

I would say The Orinoco Flow song! Cause that is just a fun song to sing along with and to do the moves! Plus the Girls have fun doing that song!

I love all the songs, but I would like to see new material for a new show, rather than a song redone.  I enjoy the traditional songs very much and would like to see them drop the Italian light operetta songs and go with more that have a Celtic feel to them, in either English or Gaelige, after all - they're called CELTIC Woman! *S*

How about "Angel of the Morning" ? (done by Merillee Rush (sp) and also by Juice Newton)

I'm listening to it right now on the radio.

From a drippy day in the rockies,
The song that they seem to find most meaningful to them is "You raise me up" and I really don't want that one to leave. Mo Ghile Mear is so awesome when you're there in person, I hope they don't drop that from the concert. However, the CD and DVD are another thing. The concert you want what really moves people, certainly the flow is one of those too. But in listening to some old Irish traditional CDs there are many tunes that these ladies would do very well. Some really beautiful pieces for Mairead too. I'll listen again and make some suggestions. Lisa might do theme from the movie "Titanic" very well. Cheers!

Mo Ghile Mear is my favorite from the group and The Voice is my fav. single.
But, since I already have those, I'd prefer new songs. I too would love them to do "Angel In The Morning" and perhaps"Time In A Bottle"  Rosie

Sting is not an artist that I would normally listen to, but I do very much enjoy Sasha & Shawna's recent "Siren" CD, which includes a rendition of Sting's "Fields of Gold".

S&S do a magnificent job with "Fields of Gold" and I am sure that a CW performance of it would be nothing short of awesome!

I may be in the minority, but fewer cover songs would suit me. They do them BEAUTIFULLY, mind you. But David and the girls come up with great original material. I encourage them to do more! The orignals and the traditional stuff are the selling point for me.

And I think it would make more converts, too. Doing covers leads to comparisons and most people like songs the way they first heard them, regardless of who did it.

Title: Re: Music for the Next Show
Post by: Moscapoet on August 03, 2007, 02:39PM
I would agree. Original pieces coming from David and the girls have not let me down yet. I would love to see Mairead do some original pieces from her CD with CW. That trio piece with her sister and mom would be a hoot at a concert.

I also really like "You Raise Me Up" and would like them to keep that song. I do think that Lisa would be able to sing a Karen Carpenter song, perhaps "We've Only Just Begun".

Well, it's not Celtic but "Inama Nushif" has a great sound to it.  It comes from the "Children of Dune" Miniseries that Sci Fi did a couple of years back.  It is meant to go with a specific sequence of film but can do well as a stand alone.  Onfortunatly Itunes only sells the whole album and not the single piece, you can get small sample there but it does not show much.  A better sample is http://www.briantyler.com/audioclips/childrenofdune3.mp3 (http://www.briantyler.com/audioclips/childrenofdune3.mp3)

I would dearly love to hear our ladies do "Lord of the Dance” as it written as a hymn.   Our Catholic Chapel here at the University where I work, has it in their hymnal.   When you hear the young people getting into it, with their whole hearts and spirits, it moves you more then you can imagine.   Thank God for the young!  And the young at heart!

When I started learning the penny whistle, I made sure it was the first piece I practiced.

I posted my suggestions for future songs on the Chloe board, a while ago:

http://www.celticwomanforum.com/index.php?topic=257.0

Personally, I would love to see them do more Irish/Gaelic songs and more Classical songs, because of their timeless beauty and spiritual and musical depth, and fewer Broadway or pop numbers.

Currently on a listening binge before his much-anticipated concert here, I was listening to Stevie Wonder's 'Overjoyed' earlier today while driving down the road, and it felt very uplifting. Mary J. Blige (though not exactly the pinnacle of fine female vocalists) did a pretty nice cover of this song a few years back. So I wonder, what happens if Chloe takes a crack at it (and maybe Stevie himself at the piano)?

What do you think? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edxYCXaQLaw)

I do like Orinoco Flow but since in the end it was not added to the third DVD, alas we must make due without it, so on that note I will add, A CW rendition of Liv Kristine's Good Vibes, Bad Vibes to this list, also Faun's Da Que Deus, and Xandria's Ravenheart....sounds good to anyone?

I will miss Méav, during the last Tour I went to see only concerts in which she was appearing.

I think any attempt to re-do any of Méav's songs will encourage unfair comparisons, so I believe this is a great opportunity to introduce some fresh new material.

Lynn should be allowed to put her own stamp on the Show, without being compared with the Méavellous one.

I have a 3 cd set of Celtic Hymns that is amasing! It reminds me of CW so much. I think it would be cool for them to do some of them. Possably hymns that orginated in Ireland. I also would like a whole DVD/Tour of songs from only their solo albums! That would be neat!

Think about it. They could do an opening song with all of them. New or old really dosen't matter and then close with another all of them song. In between it would be solo after solo. Oh, they could also possably do only songs that are not on the other dvd's.

Title: Re: Music for the Next Show
Post by: Jeanine on October 09, 2007, 10:23PM
I love "Pie Jesu"!!  It's actually a duet.  I think that would be a terrific song for Lisa and Chloë to do as a duet.  I also think a good song would be "Bridge Over Troubled Water" . . . perhaps as another Lisa/Chloë song?

As far as some of Méav's songs go, I think we will be seeing those still in this current tour as it is an extension of ANJ.  Let's not be too closed to others singing some of the songs (though I understand those feelings, I have them too).  We need to be able to be somewhat open-minded in order to give Lynn a fair chance. :)  I'm sure she'll be great with whatever songs David gives her to do.  I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing her.
