When I was a little girl, I remember farmers gathering in my aunt's farmhouse after work. They would have an impromptu séisiún of singing and reciting poetry. Much of it was patriotic, or sad songs of exile. If nobody brought any instruments they would provide rhythm and accompaniment by making musical noises.........."mouth music". Whenever musical instruments were neither available nor affordable, they invented ways to provide the backing.......spoons, whistles made from reeds etc. You may have noticed Ray Fean plays the spoons in ANJ.
