It doesn't mean anything.  It's just random mouth music.

If you can go to youtube and type Celtic Woman Newgrange, you can pick a video of it to listen to the full version.

Mouth music started out as a substitute for instruments.

When I was a little girl, I remember farmers gathering in my aunt's farmhouse after work.
They would have an impromptu séisiún of singing and reciting poetry.
Much of it was patriotic, or sad songs of exile.
If nobody brought any instruments they would provide rhythm and accompaniment by making musical noises.........."mouth music".

Whenever musical instruments were neither available nor affordable, they invented ways to provide the backing.......spoons, whistles made from reeds etc.

You may have noticed Ray Fean plays the spoons in ANJ.

......and then blithely tosses them over his shoulder when he's done with them.  I love that part.   :D

If he does toss the spoons over his shoulder when done, those spoons better end up in the dishwasher!  I'm not picking up after him!

Méav to do the dishes, that is, to empty the dishwasher?!  No.  There's plenty of help among the cast, orchestra, choir, and crew!

Title: Remarks on “Newgrange” refrain lyrics
Post by: Parker Gabriel on March 19, 2014, 09:54PM

You could easily liken “Rum de rum ’rud a derimo” in “Newgrange” to “Whack for the toora loora laddy / Whack for the toora loora lay / Whack for the toora loora laddy / Whack for the toora loora lay” in the lyrics to “Spanish Lady.”

Another example of “lilting.” The actual title, “Newgrange,” is to be found NOWHERE in the lyrics.
