Sarah said she saw palm trees in Ireland, and she seemed surprised.
The palms are native, and most of them are in the SouthWest, where the warmer waters
of the Gulf Stream hit the Cork and Kerry coastlines.
There are streets lined with palms in Cobh, (pronounced Cove) County Cork.
Many of Ireland's spectacular golf courses have palm trees.

Here is a rare sight - snow on a palm tree in Ireland, taken in January 2010:

And how about this?  Yes, that's snow!

Hope there aren't any camels in County Cork. Smiley

This isn't Ireland, but its in far southern New Mexico (I could just about literally see Mexico from my house!).  This picture was taken Dec. 4th, 2009.  We got snow occasionally because we were sitting at about 4200 feet elevation.  The snow was all gone by midday.

The palm trees thrive at Ireland by the seashore due to the sandy soil. Another plant that does good in sandy soil (with peat) is the banana...however I don't think a banana tree would even survive the crazy weather Ireland has LOL

She may like the warmer weather anyways. She lives in a good area, lucky gal. However there are earthquakes there in LA.
