What kind of style music is Celtic Woman? At first I thought it was classical then i heard it was contempary. And again I also heard that it was world music. Then I went to barns & noble and i saw Hayley cd in the pop section. I am so confused. What kind of music is Celtic Woman?

It's generally classified as either world or new age.

Hayley sings pop and classical!

Yes, I suppose record stores would classify as "World"; however I consider it "Classical crossover," for lack of a better phrase, especially considering songs by the great Classical composers, including:
-Panis Angelicus (Franck)
-Vivaldi's Rain
-Ave Maria (Bach/Gounoud)
-Brahms' Lullaby
-Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (Bach)
-Lascia ch'io Pianga (Handel)

Epicwolf,

There is no such thing as a stupid question.  We learn by asking questions.  There are probably others who are wondering the same as you, but were afraid to ask.  You should not be afraid to ask questions.  If someone tells you it's a stupid question, tell them no, that it would be stupid to sit in ignorant silence.

Eh, they could be classified as a lot of things, but I say "world".  This term does not only mean that they are an ethnic style of music but their themes and messages are universal as well.

I agree with those above: World.  That's how it shows up in my Apple iPod store.  Look at the credits on the songs and you will see contemporary compositions, such as Caledonia, traditional songs like Dulaman and Scarborough Fair, and classical music like Handel's Vivaldi's Rain.

One genre I have not heard from CW yet, and forgive me for not being completely familar with their first CD and the individual CDs, is Broadway showtunes.

I still haven't figured out what New Age means. Some of their songs are definitely not new when they are from people loke Bach. They are not strictly Irish when there are songs like Shenandoah.

Hayley I see as more classical, but then Meav could be also.

I see Celtic Woman as not a style but who they are. they are the epitome of the Irish Woman. Strong, sensitive, caring and loving.Oh yeah, and gets her own way, one way or another. <g>  Remember Maureen O'Hara's character in The Quiet Man?

What I've seen in the New Age section is more like adult contemporary listening like Enya, John Tesh, Yianni.  Nothing really New Age there, but just not knowing how to classify them I guess.

Their music is in the world section at Borders.  It's under adult contemporary or easy listening (can't exactly remember) at Walmart.

I would classify CW's music as an "Eclectic Mix". Smiley

Why do we feel the need to classify everything. I do see the need to find it, but keep in mind record stores are dying. You find you're music here.  I think the best way I've ever heard CW music labeled is as healing music. I know for me they have brought  me out of many a funk.

Why do we feel the need to classify everything.

so it would be a lot easier to find it in music stores.
