Completing our tour of CW's UK destinations.....BIRMINGHAM:Birmingham is the 2nd largest city in England.
It is probably the most culturally diverse, with many immigrant communities.
The Irish were among the first immigrants and there is still a large Irish community,
in addition to West Indian, Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, etc.
I don't like big cities, and I hate driving into Birmingham...it's not for the faint-hearted.
If you ever consider visiting there from the USA, please use public transportation!
Strangely enough, the only big English City I am comfortable in is London, because I know it so well.
There is only one thing I LOVE about Birmingham......my nephew lives there, with his wife,
son, daughter, son-in-law, and his 5-year old grandson who is full of energy and mischief.
I love to visit them, and thankfully I don't have to drive into the City.
Just to make sure I don't get lost, my nephew meets me at an intersection and I follow his car.
The Symphony Hall is probably the most impressive venue on CW's UK Tour. It has the "WOW!" factor.
The acoustics are superb. What you see in the photo below is the stage area of the Theatre, and the 6,000 pipes of the Symphony Organ.
I am
sure David Downes will want to play this beast, which was designed and built by hand using traditional craftsmanship,
by Johannes Klais Orgelbau, a long-established family firm from Bonn that has an enviable worldwide reputation.
