As some of you know, I'm finally going to a CW Home for Christmas show in less than 2 weeks!
I'm going to try a Stage and Greet. Who knows how many chances I'll get to meet them besides this, so if I do get lucky enough to meet them, I'd like to come prepared with something pretty for them to sign.
I don't know if my calendar will get here in time.
I don't know what stuff might be available at the venue (if it's like Destiny, there will probably be T-Shirts, mugs, some programs, etc, but not really any photos or stuff that's suitable for mounting in a frame).
The venue hasn't gotten back to me about whether they have any event posters they would be willing to save for me so I can pick it up there.
There also doesn't appear to be any current Celtic Woman posters (ie. with Tara) available for sale from any reputable source.
Soooo, I've decided to try making my own poster just in case that ends up being the best I can do between now and then.
I really liked one of the banners from the Celtic Woman site. Unfortunately, that one is a pretty odd size: 1600x675
I could crop the edges quite a bit, but it would still be tough to get it to a standard picture size. Best I could do would be about 13x6 by cropping alone (without distorting the image through resizing). From a framing standpoint, it's more expensive to get a custom frame done for a weird size. But more importantly, it's harder to find a place that will print a photo in such a weird size.
So, I decided to crop out the the part of the picture that has the girls. I made separate layers for the CW logo and the tour info and tried removing the original background from the text so that I just had the text in transparent layers so I could move it around and resize it against an existing background.
Here's what I ended up with. It's 1200x800 (ie. good ratio for a somewhat standard 12" x 8").
The dimensions kind of look more similar to the original than they are. It's an optical illusion I guess.
It turned out ok, but I wanted some other opinions on how it looks and how I could make it better.
Honest opinion: does the positioning / sizing of the text look ok? If not, what would make it look better? Any other suggestions?
And lastly, I wanted to know if there's any artistic folk out there with the time / inclination do me a cooler CW poster over the weekend. Yeah I know "thanks for the notice and where's my money," right? But yeah, if anyone's interested, let me know.
Thanks.
