Summary and Thoughts: Celtic Roots Live With Nathan Carter

The concert was performed and recorded in Dublin.

The arrangements and song choices were somewhat reminiscent of Celtic Thunder, although there were less theatrics involved than with a Celtic Thunder production. Some of the songs have a country sound too them, not all that unusual for contemporary Irish music. I enjoy certain varieties of country music, so I liked the way the arrangements sounded.

Nathan is a talented vocalist. He also played the accordion and piano quite well during some of the songs.

Chloë was only in two songs, but I still enjoyed the show quite a bit.

The show had a good pace, with a few moving slow songs mixed in. I had fun watching it. If you like Irish music, I think you'll enjoy this show, so check it out if it appears on your local PBS station.

Set List
- Loch Lomond
- Where I Wanna Be
- Caledonia
- The Banks of the Roses
- Grace (Chloë Angew solo)
- Hard Times (duet: Nathan and Chloë)
- Spanish Lady Medley
- Temple Bar (one of Nathan's originals)
- Bridge Over Troubled Water
- Wagon Wheel
- Reels
- Jealous of the Angels
- Home to Donegal
- Irish Rover

PBS Pledge Gifts:

On my particular PBS, there were essentially two gift choices: the CD and the DVD of the concert. There was also a bonus CD of one of Nathan's other shows available with one of the pledge levels. There was no Meet and Greet (not through my PBS station, at least).

It gets even better!

Tour dates!!!

Chloë's the special guest on Nathan Carter's tour!

http://www.nathancartermusic.com/dates

I suspect they recorded the special before Nathan and Chloë planned the tour. Based on that assumption and considering Mairead Nesbitt had a far more prevalent role that I thought she would in Rocktopia, I suspect Chloë will get to perform in few more songs on the tour. To be clear though, it is Nathan's tour, not hers.

There are at least two venues I'm close enough to go to. I will be going to at least one of them, but it overlaps with one of my on-call weeks again, so it's time to stress out about trading a shift again. Oh well, Chloë is worth it.

Here's a short video of Nathan Carter, the band, and Chloë rehearsing for their upcoming tour:

https://www.facebook.com/ChloeAgnew/videos/1814254645256400/

I basically got tickets to this show not being sure how much I'd actually hear of Chloë. She is, after all, Nathan's guest and only performed 2 songs during the PBS special. I was pretty sure she should have a more prominent role in the tour, but I decided that even in the unlikely event she only performed two songs, it was still worth going. She means sooooooo much to me and I'm still feeling terribly guilty for not going to see her during her spring tour this year.

Well, today's video was a rather pleasant affirmation of my hopes. It sounds like she's going to have a very prevalent role in the show. She'll be performing several songs including a number of duets with Nathan.

Here's the video, followed by them talking a little about the tour.

I'm still not sure about Meet and Greets. As far as I know, there are no "Meet and Greet" tickets available. It is rumored that they Chloë and Nathan will meet people after the show (similar in style to the Rocktopia post-show signings, perhaps), but I'm still trying to get confirmation on that. There is of course always the Stage-and-Greet option, but considering every one of those has ended for me in disappointment, I rest no realistic hope for myself on the Stage-and-Greet approach.

Regardless of whether or not I get to meet her again, I get to see her perform in just over a month and that makes me very, VERY happy!
