When a loved one passes away, it is customary for Catholics to have a "Mass Card" printed for family, friends and anyone who knew them. It usually has a picture of the person or a religious picture on the front, and a verse or prayer on the back. It is a reminder to pray for the soul of the deceased.
On one card given to me at the funeral of a young person killed in a traffic accident, the prayer on the back, chosen by her mother, showed a depth of Faith not many of us would have in those circumstances.
"Lord, she was Thine, and not my own, Thous hast not done me wrong, I thank Thee for the precious gift afforded me so long."
