As some of you know, when we have a Federally-declared disaster, I am contracted to FEMA as a Housing damage inspector. That's how I met Cathy, we have worked on several Hurricanes together.
Whenever we get to a disaster area, there is nowhere to stay because all hotel rooms are taken by evacuees, power linesmen etc.
So we are sometimes billeted on Government property, a Military base or similar.
While in the New Orleans area we lived in tents on a Base, sometimes mixed gender together, and privacy was non-existent.

So, in case of future deployments, we bought a conversion van. We paid $1500 cash.
For a 1990 Chevy, it is in excellent condition. It has 4 captain's chairs, a bench seat which converts to a bed, a built-in cooler, and hanging space for clothes. It has mini-blinds and blue velvet curtains.

Dave has put a lot of work into it.....he repainted the outside, put new carpet in it, put a new TV / DVD /CD system in.
Today he is very proud of his latest addition.
His buddy came over and together they put in a 1,000 watt inverter that will apparently run all the electronics. (What do I know?    )

But what tickled me was the sight of those two working on it...... Cheesy

Mike backed his van up our driveway, opened it up to reveal his mobile workshop.
Those two Vets were singing along to CCR, drinking a cold beer, and just enjoying some "guy time" in the sunshine........

This isn't mine, but it's similar. Mine has an Irish Flag plate on the front, a US Navy License plate on the back. And CW DVDs and CDs inside of course!!!

Cheesy It doesn't need one Jim!
It will be equipped with a GPS later this week, though.

O'Malley loves the van......has his own bed in the back.

The guards on the gate at Patrick Air Force Base always admire it.

Forgot to mention the glock in the glove box!!! Grin

I figured an M-60 would pop up and transform it into a Gun Truck.

My Explorer SportTrac is also equiped with CW CDs, I'm still trying to find a mulit CD changer for it.  As far a being armed, I ate at Tocco Bell, really explosive.

We bought a Sony 10-disk CD changer at the US Navy Exchange. it was on sale for $98.
I Just looked it up online, it is $145, but you can pick one up on eBay for a lot less.

It's very stable, never skips. We can set it to play ten CDs in sequence, or any track at random.
It was funny on our trip to Kentucky, it played Orlagh sounding very sad in "Carrickfergus" followed by Freddy Fender "I'll be there before the next teardrop falls".

The contents of your glove box make me glad I live in Ireland.

That was a joke, Comet.
That's what my husband would put in there if I let him.
He does have a gun.

When I am deployed to a disaster like Hurricane Katrina, we usually stay on Government property, such as a Military Base, and we are absolutely not allowed to carry guns.
After the Hurricane though, New Orleans was such a heck hole that one of our inspectors was shot at.

Hi Maggie.
I have lived in Dublin most of my life.
I do not know ANYONE not ONE person who owns a handgun in Ireland and I'm glad that's the way it is.

Can you imagine the MAD COW ROUNDABOUT at five o'clock on a Friday if we had handguns,
we would halve the population in half an hour, Unemployment would be a thing of the past.  Grin

No, I can't imagine the Mad Cow Roundabout with guns!!!

Dublin traffic is the reason I get straight onto the N7 and head for Tipp.

I do know farmers in Tipp who own guns, but I've never known any shooting incident involving another person. Just a few game birds and animals.
