Some of you may remember"Classical Gas", an instrumental piece that was recorded in the February 1968 by Mason Williams. In August 1968 it reached the top 5 in the American charts and went on to sell over a million copies. After listening to it on the radio the other day, I popped in a cassette (yes, I said cassette) of CW I made in the my car and Granuaile's Dance came on. 2 totally different pieces of music obviously, but there are similarities. Here is a YouTube video from the Ed Sullivan show of Mason Williams performing Classical Gas:

and, here is Máiréad with Granuaile's Dance:

Both are very beautiful pieces of music.  If you'd like to watch a violin version of Classical Gas you can see Vanessa Mae performing it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKlLgZZCtgc.

Classical gas is a great tune! I have the Mannheim steamroller version at home. I'd love to see Mairead crack the charts with her great instrumentals. They're all in the world charts so she just needs stations to play her airs.

I can see where some might claim similarities, but really I believe them to be two very different pieces of music.

It sure is a faster tune everybody gets to hear. I also think it's a mega-blast in the real-life concert. Cool
