Okay, so I am leaving in a couple of weeks for my trip to Ireland. I will be in Galway and on Inis More. A friend just asked me if I am looking forward to the food and I have no idea. What kind of authentic Irish food should I look for? This is one style of cuisine with which I am not terribly familiar. We are staying in a bed and breakfast which serves a full Irish breakfast every morning, but we are on our own for the rest of the day. Can anyone make some suggestions?

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks!

You know, blood pudding sounds like something a Klingon would eat. Undecided

I don't know about the rest of the menu, because unfortunately I've never been over to Ireland and I'd love to go, however I'm such a fussy eater and have a few ailments, that I tend to stick with menu items I know and that my system will tolerate (most of the time).  Enjoy your breakfast!  An Irish breakfast and and English one are very much the same according to many sites I've read, so that meal should be safe for someone like me.

LOL@ Blood pudding being a Klingon dish! *S*  Cute answer! *S*

I just don't want to be the American that goes and only eats "American" food.

google the towns you will be staying in then look up the local restaurants and when you get there just ask them about the various foods they serve. I am sure they get a lot of tourists each year and would be happy to help you make the proper selection.

My great grandmother (not the Irish side) would make blood pudding although I was too young to have it.

I've tasted blood pudding.  It's quite tasty.  There is black pudding and white pudding.  I like the black pudding better.     Smiley

We were lucky enough to be in Ireland last June. The weather was the best (must have brought it with us from Florida) NO rain or mist/fog crystal clear days and nights. The Temps. were in the 80's very unusual I was told. Every morning we had the same breakfast from sligo to Dublin to Kilarney. Tomatoes, soda bread, fried eggs, potatoes, ham, bangers and of course BLACK or WHITE PUDDING. Ididn't try it although looking back I regret it. The local pubs are the best places we found to have the best "groceries" plus there is the added bonus of the Irish music. Fantastic.
