I have listened to both Lisa's and the Celtic Thunder version s of this song and love them both.

I love Lisa's for the beauty of her voice (The visual on the DVD shows up when listening on to teh CD.)

but

I love the solid male voices of Celtic Thunder beelting out the song.

So, which one is better? I could say it is a tie.

 Undecided

yeah right

The ending of Lisa's is what gives her version top billing.

Coming from me, this may sound like heresy.  But I still have a soft spot for Dougie Maclean's rendition of his own song.  But the thing that puts Lisa's version over the top is the visual effect of watching her perform it.  It's one of those solos where her musical theater background just shines through.  To borrow a phrase often used by music critics, Lisa "believes" what she sings.

But you are a 'Tad Biased' and so am I. I totally agree the visual is what does it.

....as she obviously does for ALL the songs she sings!   Grin

I like Lisa's version of Caledonia the best.

I'm all over Lisa's version. I love it. It's probably one of my favorite "Lisa songs" from CW. Smiley

Lisa's definitely. When Lisa sings it, I cry almost ever time. Unless I'm in public, in which case I try really had to keep it together. When I hear CT's version, I think it's good, but then I shrug and go on with things as though I didn't listen to it. Lisa's sticks to me for a while.

I do like the CT version but their voices are powerful in that song and it doesn't flow.  Lisa's voice is just so soft and earthy and I have used it to put me to sleep or calm me down whenever I am frustrated.  So after that analysis I would have to say...... Lisa!

(But the whole analysis I always knew that Lisa had the better Caledonia  Wink)

I've heard Caledonia done by several artists.  But Lisa's version is my favorite by far, as she really draws us into her performance.  As others have said, it's not just the song, it's the entire performance (package) and how she obviously feels the music.

(And it's stuck in my head again now... I'd had "The Call" in there for the last few days)

I agree with Rich about Dougie MacLean's rendition......and I would go one step further, the one on his CD is my favourite version.

Granted, Dougie is not as stunningly pretty as Lisa, and the sound quality is not as good as Celtic Thunder......however, Dougie wrote the song, put his soul into it,
and he has of course the Scottish accent it should be sung with.

Let's face it, he is from Caledonia, it is in his heart.

He has a great sense of humour too, as demonstrated in this YouTube clip:

When I first heard CT's version...I had to get use to hearing a Male voice singing, since I have never heard Dougie sing it. Lisa was the first. I agree, the visual is what sets Lisa's version apart. That darn BOUNCE!! Cheesy.  but it's not just that, when I first seen ANJ aired, and watched Lisa sing this song, I was once more drawn in by her warm smile and the glint in her eyes. Also when she does the Found Other friends on the way part, and she encompasses the audience..I actually got a goosebumps. You can tell she is singing it from her heart, and that cute Bounce helps too  Grin
